In my opinion, Alien Swarm... It was great when it first came out everyone got it (cuz it's free) but then it got... obscenely repetitive.
I didn't want to go through the process of downloading all the custom made map packs... and so there were only 7 maps. And unless valve decided to update it, it's stuck like that

Halo: Reach, not really dead, but still hasn't even got half of the amount of players Halo 3 had, even when Halo 3 neared it's end.

Also, for some reason, I can't get on to BFBC2 on my Xbox, so that's pretty dead for me, please don't tell me you need Vietnam to play online?

Fighting games seem to be pretty dead too, aside from the new release of Mortal Kombat. I only saw around 5 games on BlazBlue: CS around a week ago, but since a new version is out, I'm assuming it's probably a bit more lively now. SSFIV sounded pretty dead, from what my friend told me earlier today.

I believe Tremulous and Savage 1/2 are pretty dead.
As I understand it the Savage 1 community are all on some modded version of the game and are playing shittastic (personal opinion anyway, I much preferred the classics) maps. So it's apparently still running relatively strong. Savage 2 on the other hand, I'm not too sure about. I know I enjoyed the game, but was too laggy (own problem, not the games I don't think)

Unless there's been a massive revival since 5 months ago, Bioshock 2 isn't dead, but we weren't exactly swimming in matches when a bunch of us went on it for old times sake.
Probably would've played it more if it weren't for that gosh darned nailgun...
That and the god damn freeze plasmid.

OT:Team Fortress on the xbox is very much dead. Its sad since I love the game.

I doubt that valve will, alien swarm was released as a platform for developers, which was the only reason it was free. They make a lot of money from games that were originally mods. I.E. Killing Floor, and Dino D-day.

True, but Reach has kinda hit a sweet spot for it's multiplayer, where most of the squeakers and "those guys" moved on to BlOps, but it still has thousands of people playing at any given moment. As for BFBC2, not sure what the problem is there. I only got the vietnam pack a couple weeks ago and it's been working fine since I first got it, and my friend never got it at all, and in fact never even got a VIP code, but he can still play online. I'd trying calling some sort of tech support, whether it be EA or Microsoft, though I don't envy anyone who has to call either one.

OT: ...yea, that being said, I really can't think of any games I regularly play where the communities have died. For a while I thought the CoD4 on PC one was dieing, but apparently that was just a slow couple of weeks, because it's going full blast now.

MAG...*sigh*

It defiantly needs more players.

Especially in Raven (gooooo.... Raven!).
You'd think with room for 256 players there would be no problem but sadly it is...
(Ahem Goooo.... S.V.E.R!)

Transformers: WFC, had so much potential to contend with the likes of COD and Halo, but it just didn't take off =\ people still play it, but there is never 1000 people on at one time =\
AND that is a shame cause I enjoyed the GAME and the Multilayer; But It kinda just faded out didn't it?

As for my choice I was REALLY hyped for Bioshock 2 Multiplayer but its just slowly... faded then kinda forgotten.

I pray Brink doesn't go the same way, I LOVE BRINK!!!!

Why are you only on trade servers?

Anyway, RECOIL's dead. Prove me wrong and I'll love you forever.

Left 4 dead - its servers are hosted somewhere in space using a dial up connection, the ping is 200 and above for everyone and the servers are populated by people who rage when someone on the team isn't as 1337 as them.
Also, vote kick is usually a good thing, but not people can't play on a server for more than 20 minutes because of vote kick abuse. If someone initiates a vote, people assume there is a good reason, so I see random players that didn't do anything wrong, get kicked because someone initiated a vote.

The first CoD and its expansion. Almost no games. Trying to find a vanilla server with a high population and a map rotation that doesn't consist entirely of Chateau or POW Camp is impossible.

Valve games on the 360 compared to their PC alternatives

last year i picked up a game called Fatal Inertia from the bargain bin. 10 bucks

its basically a junky F-Zero type of racing game... hover vehicles and powerups, attacks, etc.

anyway, i know for a fact that i was the only person in the entire world playing it at that time, and id be willing to bet that i was the only person to play it within a stretch of several weeks or more lol

Oh my lord that game is (was?) amazing, I'd still be playin it if it had a community... Ok now I'm actually sad thinking about how fun that game was...
Speaking of, does anyone know how many copies Brink sold?

I think the biggest problem is that there's a few multiplayer behemoths out there (TF2, the latest CoD or Battlefield, WOW, and so on), and if you're not one of those, well, the lifespan of the multiplayer aspect is limited, especially if you don't regularly introduce new content to the game, your game will get abandoned in favour of the aforementioned behemoths or simply the latest multiplayer game.
