Music =/= Lyrics

Also - The melody counts as music, so if you dropped the background music (The accompanyment) you would have a capella music. In the case of Hip Hop, which is what I assume you are talking about, with the accompanyment it would be poetry.

Surprise surprise, some teenagers said some stupid things, and another, smarter, teenager is unhappy about it. End of thread?
You sir, are an idiot.
Ummm....
HOW is he an idiot? His post makes perfect sense. Do you care to explain yourself on why you think he's an idiot?
Surely. Hip-hop = poerty?
I think not. Half the time Hip-Hop artists either slurr words or make up new ones entirely just to make a 'ryhme'.
Also, him saying the whole 'suprise suprise' thing is just annoying. I hate people like him.
Let me guess, now someone will say how they hate people like me?
I know =D
Makes waking up in the morning that much better for me.
You know who else made up words to make a 'rhyme'?

William Shakespeare.

Wow. The maturity of this thread is enthralling -_-

OT: Music is not equal to lyrics, since music and lyrics is music and music on its own is music. Whereas lyrics on their own are pretty much a poem if you read it instead of singing it.

However, sing a poem and add instruments you have music again. Magic!

No he didn't?
Just because you don't understand old english doesn't mean the words he uses weren't commonplace back then. I'm guessing your some little grade schooler, just had to read a Elizabethan play or something, saw words that didn't make sense, figured that they were made up?

Ahah, what an insightful post.

I can call you a blue fish but until I get some proof no one is going to believe it.

So please, enlighten me as to why you think I am an idiot.
Fight Fight Fight! NO seriously, why call him an idiot? I would say his post was pretty insightful lol

It's really early here and I can't be arsed to try and comprehend OP's twisted weird logic...

Lyrics in music = good. Gives them more meaning and makes them more interesting to listen to.

Poetry also good. Different media also usually has a message that's fine too.

I can't comprehend why you would want to take the lyrics out of music so I'm assuming this is flame bait/badge whoring.

While we're at it, let's also define "music" or "pornography" (not to seem snarky at you, WayOutThere)

Oh wow man, idk if I can find that song. I'm pretty sure only a few people have even heard of it, as it's so very exclusive.
-_-
I've heard it, wasn't impressed.
Easy as fuck.
I'll make a remake of marry had a little lamb if you want?
Okay so you say Rap used to be good, I produce you a good piece of Rap from this decade that isn't full of swearing and about smacking bitches up or smoking weed and you say you don't like it. Me thinks you're a troll or you nolstagia is making you say bull
Go on then, make a rap piece. Impress me with you dazzling rap abilities which you seem to claim everyone has
Oh and yeah ignore the rest of my post because you have no response
I'm not flaming on the genre at all. I never said anything about smacking hos and shit, that was all you my friend. I like very little rap and hip-hop.I even put up with some r&b.
You response to my post only shows that you are an eminem fanboy and couldn't stand up the chance to defend him, or something along those lines.
I simply don't like the genre.
I hate people that try to start fights over this shit.
Yes because I suggest one song by him that makes me a fanboy
Okay then, Hollywood Undead, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre. Jesus Christ you are getting on everyones nerves
Youdon't like that genre? Then why the fuck are you posting against people who do like it
Hell I like metal, classical, jazz, rock in all most forms and country because I can see that each one takes talent to do
You thinking that anyone can do it is laughable
Now shut up, stop trolling and open your damn mind to other tastes
XD
Rapping involves talking...fast.
that's it.
Tell me how that compares to someone picking up a guitar and playing a solo, or how it compares to someone sitting behind a drum set and actually doing something creative?
Rappers all do the same fucking thing, they make up a rap, then either get someone to make a drum beat to it, or just use a fucking program to do it for them.
In the way of music, they're lazy as fuck and lack true talent.
Some people like them, I don't.
Get the fuck over it.
Try improv rapping. Or even remembering EVERY SINGLE word to a rap song with a lot of them, and getting the rhythm right.

The guitar solo has notes, the improv rapper has words. This is coming from someone that doesn't like rap all that much.

Damn this thread became a flame fest fast. (Try saying that over and over again.)

OT: I'm not too sure what the OP is asking here. I do not listen to Hip-hop or Rap, simply because most of it doesn't seem to be that great. I am sure that there are some great hip-hop artists out there, but I really couldn't be bothered wading through all the crap to find some hidden gem.

On the topic of lyrics, who needs 'em, some of the best music ever written doesn't have lyrics.
It's only because Stalker is getting really really heated. The rest of us are fine.

Poetry is suppose to effect you emotionally.

If the lyrics to a song alone can effect you emotionally they can easily be considered poetry.

It makes sense.

I can't say they should for sure; we need a definition of "poetry".

(dictionary definitions just won't get to the heart of the matter)
Probably the best answer yet. Lyrics that give you that little funny feeling are probably good examples of poetry, even if it only affects you that way. I guess that makes it your poetry.

Nice. My personal favorite in the realm of made up words is Lewis Carroll.
I also rather enjoy making up words. To coin a word or phrase, a truly unique instance of language, that (maybe more perfectly) captures an idea is an immense joy for me. Well executed portmanteau is beautiful. Honestly, no, I don't feel "thurr" is a great addition to the common lexicon. However, others may. Everyone is allowed to enjoy whatever it is that particularly ecstaciates them. At least until we voluntarily subject ourselves to this great collective semi-consciousness, and attempt to have intelligent, grammatically correct conversation.

than its alljust tits + lols ;)

Yes and metal involves long haired men screaming about crap.
Hell at last you can understand rap
Okay raining blood requires no musical talent to play on guitar, it's in the wrong key, out of time and just sounds shit. I can play guitar and very well and I can still appriciate rap is hard
Woah woah woah stop there, get creative with metal or rock drumming, it juat doesn't exist, I've bee plying drums for two years and metal drumming is so dull I can't imagine why anyone would want to play it. Hip hop, r'n'b and rapping drumming is so much more creative then metal drumming. For metal drumming, double bass pedal and possibly and a few on bea bass pedals, hell they don't even have any good fills. while rap has off beat bass pedals, alternative snare lines, drum fills and actually using the high hat pedal
Yes because a lead singer in all band plays every part don't they
Yeah and you posted against rapping which I like and think your view is close minded, uninformed bull so if you don't like something next time,
DON'T POST
Jeez it's not that complicated

I feel ya. All the music I listen to is either lyricless, comedy, or foreign. I've even trained myself successfully to be unable to hear English in English language music as a form of self defence against timeless cliche lyrics I can't sympathise with.

You know what the best thing about foreign music is? It can be about whatever the hell you want it to be about.

Well some of the best songs have stupid lyrics. Children of the Revolution? "I drive a Rolls Royce, cause it's good for my voice" ? Still I love the song. Poetry and lyrics aren't always the same thing, and if rhymes about gangsters and hos are "pretty lyrics" then you haven't listened to much. I wouldn't accuse anything much around now as having particularly good lyrics. Look at the Beatles, half their stuff was repetitive and the other half nonsensical.

And if that's how you play drums, your pretty fucking bad a drumming.
I'm not "Close minded" as all of you whiny little dipshits are quick to accuse me of.
Some rap is good, but not that much.
The genre has gone to shit, and if you morons can't see that you've never really listened to modern hip-hop.
I don't know how many times I've tried to give the genre a second chance just to have it disappoint me with either;
A.An unfathomable amount of repetition.
B.Lyrics that just make no sense...at all.
No you're just a dick, everyone else agrees with me and I do take my own advice thanks, I don't need advice from trolls
Yeah of course your not...you're just an idiot then, either that or close minded
Hmm yes since I can play "hot for teacher", Jazz drum and I can do rap drumming but it is harder to learn
You wouldn't know what a good musician is if he beat you up
Yeah we're whiny when you're trying to act like a big man on the internet. I'd rather be a whiny on the internet and a man in real life then a man on the internet and whiny in real life
Yeah and Metallica lyrics make so much sense don't they?
Okay from a person who listens to alot of rap, metal and various other genres, I recommend Hollywood Undead and Rage Against the Machine, don't like them? Then just stop talking to people who do like te genre

ok now correct me if I'm wrong but did he just call lyrics unnecessary in music? i mean sure there are few bands that rely on the singer and have no idea what to do with an instrument (HEHEM disturbed) but calling all lyrics poetry is absolute stupidity.

Not sure, I hate Metallica so I never bothered to listen to them to the point of paying attention to lyrics.
Also, you guys started this whole "OMG YOU DON'T LIKE RAP!?" thing, I didn't.
If you remember, I made one very small comment and you guys started this "argument."
And how come every time someone disagrees with someone else, the word Troll is thrown around?
If I am being troll, than you are as guilty as I am. Also, by the amount of typos you made, I can tell your typing too fast and clearly not thinking before you type.
It looks to me like you just want to get the last word in, and you most likely will.
This is both boring and annoying, people have varying opinions in the music world, get over it.

but your opinion doesn't count. because anyone who thinks rap is as good musically as some metal bands today or from any period of time should be shot in the face repeatedly.

No you're not a troll because you disagree, it's becuse you called anyone with a different opinion an idiot.
No I just have a really shitty keyboard and it would be expensive to get it repaired

Can't you see that you are being a little bit of a hypocrite
