There are douche-bags in most online communities and xbox live just houses one of the biggest douche-bag communities. Evar.

If you went 5 hours without any jerks you sure weren't playing MW2... but honestly MW2 is the only game that I've played that the number of jerks is noticable to me. TF2, Halo, they have jerks as well but not nearly as much right now. Plus you might eventually find someone/some people who will throw regular play out the window and try something like a class rush in TF2 or a Mongoose run in Halo. Moments like those make dealing with the jerks worth it IMO.

Most of Xbox LIVE are degenerates - There are some good people in amongst the masses of blubbering masses.

I don't understand the Xbox Live hate. Yes people are jerks. The community sucks. However there is not a single gaming community that are "nice." Everyone feels empowered over a mic. They can say whatever they want whenever they want and not be punished. Counter-Strike on the PC was in my experience the worst. The benefit to Xbox live is this. You will find people who are NOT jerks, add them to your friends list. Play together in pvt chat. So no longer do you hear what all the other people are saying but you can have casual conversation with up to 8? I think 8 different people that you actually WANT to be talking to, while still enjoying your gaming experience.

As far as I am concerned Xbox Live is the best online service BECAUSE of that fact.

i think lots of gmaes focus on the live part of gaming these days and take away from the story, but i do really like xbox live - the first few days i only played Halo, but without bragging, i was surprisingly good :)

Wow... that's pretty disgusting, but alot of those sounded like close minded southern americans, which would explain alot. Still, how rude and closed-minded can you be?
Chances are the guy's not even Gay, he just likes to see the hilarious and pathetic reactions to his Live handle.

THE very first thing that came to my mind. You beat me to it.

I'd like to contribute something more fruitful but I've never been on Live either. But even if Live wasn't worse than the typical online experience for PC, nor is it better. And that's bad enough.

I don't dislike the service, I just dislike that Microsoft is still making you pay for a basic feature like playing online. I don't doubt that the service itself is good enough.

Why does that hate happen? Because live is full of pubescent nerds, who make fun of Gays being insecure in their own sexuality. Only a guy who is insecure with himself will need to be racist, sexist or homophobic. (Same with girls but vice-versa)
Have you even listened to their voices? These guys aren't pre-pubescent, some of these hooting fucktards are probably in their twenties. THAT'S what scares me.

Battlefield is good because if you play in squads with your friends you don't deal with any annoying kids like cod and can enjoy working well as a team uninterrupted.

Intolerance and a general dislike in most cases. It's why I hate Modern Warfare 2, I don't have the patience for the microphone spammers and I just generally dislike them.

Xbox Live though has it's fair bunch of trolls from what I hear, the PS3 is probably worse though with free online and (free?) headsets.
The online service is free, yes, but there is no included headset. It has been my experience that very few people talk on PSN, but said experience is relegated to Killzone 2 and MAG.

The mute function. Best feature of the whole system. The types of people who usually talk trash/sing/chew down the mic/imitate the accents of the people across the other side of the ocean (americans doing brit voices, and brit doing american voices), are the ones that never had anything good to say.

Your best bet is to go online with a buddy or two. If you dont have any, just add people you enjoyed playing with and follow them in games.

Also, you said you're new to XBL. Give it time and the 12 year old voice will gnaw away at your soul.

It's a double edged sword in my opinion. Even though there's the fact that you WILL be called a gay Jewish black person at least once in your XBox experience, there's always chances that you might stumble onto something like this.

Sounds like that kid need discipline. Remember when we were kids,
Remember how you'd sneak in home at 3 in the morning and dad would catch you. He'd Tie your arms and legs and punch you in the face, then get you on the ground and start kicking you in the spleen till you piss blood? Mum would run in screaming "Leave him alone he's only a boy"
And dad would scream back "GET OUTTA HERE ***** OR I"LL KICK YOUR ASS!!"
Then he'd chuck you in the car drive you to a dead end ally that smelt like piss and garbage and leave you there to die.
We called it discipline.....
Now its called child abuse
Haaaa the good old days :D.

Seriously though all online communities seem to be just as bad. There all full of pre-pubesent kids mouthing of or really immature adults giving it the lip. Reason?, well they could be miles away from you and you don't know who they are or what their exact location is so... they think they are it. I've laughed at a good few of them, some London kid threatening to knock me out... I pointed out how sad and weak you must be to have to threaten people online and I asked if he would like to say that to my face, then I gave him the name of the train station I would meet him at just to see him try that. The kid just continued to run his mouth and talk smack, waited at the train station for weeks for him to show up, suffice to say... he didn't. Anyway, when your not trying to humour them, the mute button works well. Try and stay in parties with your friend, then it's more fun.

What the fuck are you people playing when you're finding all these arseholes on Xbox Live? I play all the overhyped games that any 10 year old would give their left nut to play, and I come across a whiney kid maybe once every couple of days and a PROPER arsehole once a week(by proper arsehole I mean someone on a multiplayer teamwork based game who hogs all the resources as if he's playing solo.

Having just asked a few friends on MSN, none of them really encounter anyone, maybe the odd Americunt who won't shut up about "AMURRICAAAAAAH!" but no real arseholes. Either we're all very lucky; or because we live in a different timezone and encounter twats less; or everyone here are just looking for things to whine about and overexaggerate.
