N. Korea Threatens USA

If NK could nuke us and if they did they would probably hit Washington and we would wipe them out in a matter of days but we would be significantly open to attack. Providing opportunity for countries harboring hate for us.

Then we'd have to deal with nuclear fallout in Washington and the nearby states, Countries wishing to exploit our newfound weakness and the war in Iraq. All while the majority of high commanding officers are dead from the blast or fallout.

This reveals a significant weak point in the American Defense Strategy and the Allies won't go out of there way to defend us because their purpose is to eliminate mutual threats to two or more allied countries.

If North Korea tries attacking America, I'm hoping that China, our greatest trade ally begins to see them as a threat. The Chinese could devastate North Korea like no one else could imagine.

I read somewhere that even china are telling NK to back off a little bit, Sino-American relationships are getting better, no-one wants a new war.

This. Nobody wants a war, and the first troops into NK (if there is one) won't be American, they'll be Chinese. Then there'll be a WWII-esque race to Pyongyang. I'm sure China is more than willing to get their political views out of the way in order to maintain their economic position. I'm sure Mao's rolling in his grave as we speak too.

lets face it, the government of N. Korea is insane, and they think they rule the world. if the U.S simply hears as much as a cruise missile coming at them, N. Korea will most likely be obliterated. twice.

North Korea is no big deal (maybe not to South Korea or Japan, but I don't care about them).

1. We have a better military. We're not as hot at occupying countries (as the Mid East and Vietnam proved) but fighting another military is where we wipe our butts with people.

2. N. Korea fought us to a stand still before because the Chinese loaned them Meatshields (aka the average Chinese soldier). China wouldn't end trade with us now by helping N. Korea again and North Korea can't do this on their own. They would be alone with a military that stands no chance with a populace that is starving to death.

They're using the nukes to intimidate us because it's all they have left since they refuse to change. I'm not saying they're not a potential threat, but I wouldn't worry about them. Wars don't accomplish anything anymore (beyond enriching certain industries). It's all economics these days and on that front they certainly aren't winning. Then again neither are we...

And no we won't fight China over Korea or something. That's absurd.

Well, if they attack, they probably wouldn't get any support. I'm pretty sure that China hates us, but really doesn't want open war, because then it would most likely turn nuclear and would be bad. But they did assist North Korea against the U.S. and it's allies in the Korean War so who knows.

It would be a dumb descision if they do attack the U.S.

China does hate us but it's the kind of hate you have with your worst friend. Think of the U.S. as your one drunken party animal a-hole friend and China as your backstabbing prick friend. China will still be the U.S.s friend because if they had each others back in a fgith they could probably control everything they ever wanted and the U.S. will still be Chinas friend because he owes China lots of money and will get his ass kicked.
And even if it does end up as Newkular War I realy liked Fallout 3 and I have enough old Mountain Dew bottle-caps that I could probably buy whats left of New Zealand and still launch Mini Nukes back at Korea.

Seems to me that if they are going to nuke anyone it would be south korea. All this anti-american posturing is just for propogranda. I don't think they have the means or even desire to attack America directly (by which I mean the desire to deal with the consequences). More likely they just want America out of the pacific, south korea is America's foothold into their country -- likely they would be the ones to get it.
