Against foes who are armored, use a slow firing, heavy hitting gun (Or melee weapon), preferably with Armor Piercing ammo (Any type that reduces their DT.). Ignore the DPS against armored monsters. 10mm SMG has an INSANELY high DPS, but will BARELY hurt an armored foe, because they can easily absorb most of the damage from each of those rapid fire shots. It's the same reason why shotguns do next to nothing against armored targets (Sure, that shotty might be hitting for 77 DPS, at 7.7 damage per round of buckshot, but that DT of 10 on that Deathclaw means it absorbs the full 7.7 damage from EACH round of buckshot, meaning he's only being tickled by that shotty.). A Sniper Rifle in good condition with AP rounds will rip through Cazadors, providing you can actually hit them. If they get in close, I'd suggest going for the wings. The wings are fairly easy to target, and will knock them to the ground, making them a VERY easy kill for your next shot or two.

When I first encountered cazadors, I got raped. Then the second time I encountered them, raped again. After that, I avoided them as best I could, until I decided to try sniping from a distance with said sniper rifle, and preferably from cover of stealth for the added crit.

In Fallout 3, a group of 3 death-claws killed my father after we had left the simulation vault.

Had to restart the whole goddamn GAME because they were always there, no matter what I did.
Couldn't you just open the console, click on them, and use the 'kill' command?

I have leveled up. This isn't my first RPG. I'm a Bethesda vet. If no one else is experiencing this, then I'm wondering if this is a bug. 8 Strength, 84 in melee and my attacks are barely hurting them. Weapon is in great condition as well.
Use a different weapon?

I could walk up that hill in real life, but my character treats it like an insurmountable sheer cliff. It's not like there's anything important up there. It's not like letting me explore that area is going to break the proper flow of the game. It's just a hill. Bethesda wouldn't have put a wall there. Why Obsidian did his beyond me. Probably part of an important wall in another area and they didn't bother to see if it overlapped other areas unnecessarily.

EDIT: Wow. After exploring that area a bit more, I found an even worse example of this. There's one invisible wall that isn't even represented by anything. There's no hill, even a tiny one you should be able to climb over anyways. It's actually going downhill. God damn Obsidian, I want to love your game but why did you do this?!?
I originally thought the thread was going to be on something more like this, and yes, I agree. Took me forever to actually bump myself up to the tip of a hill so I could go over. NOPE. Straight up invisible wall.

The game calls them Cazador, but I know some Fallout version of the Wicked Witch of the West has sent them to fuck up my plans of discovery. Though, wielding my trusty lead pipe, I can take a man's head clean off in one fell swoop, these insect fiends laugh at my apparently not so mighty blows. Yes, I swear I hear them laughing. Or is it me losing my mind because all I've eaten for weeks is gecko steak?

So I've turned the difficulty down. Way down. They still kill me. So what are your stories of Obsidian's ridiculously over-leveled creatures thwarting your exploration attempts?
I hate those things too.

The regular Cazadores are at level 18.

I tried to take on a couple of Deathclaws early on, remembering how I'd laid waste to them in Fallout 3 with my Magnum. They destroyed me in seconds. From what I've experienced there's a few areas early on that I'll have to visit once I've levelled up.

Walked out of the tutorial place for the first time, full of hope and desire to see what wonders awaited my level 2 character. BOOM! 3 Cazadors zoom out from behind a rock and OWN me. Fuck you Cazador. Fuck you.

Let's all share our tales of exploration, because I know I can't be alone. You're exploring, as you're wont to do, and you encounter some critters. Edit: I feel like I need to add that I do like that the game adds these areas. I'm not complaining, it just caught me off guard because I'm used to Bethesda's system of enemies scaling along side you.
I just wanted to say that your avatar kicks ass. Yeah, I haven't even bought New Vegas yet; I'm waiting until a good number of patches/updates have been released.

Probably my fault for straying off the roads, but you really shouldn't be able to encounter Deathclaws at level 5...
that's fallout 2 for you. YOU DONT GO off the trade routes and roads. there are MANY WARNINGS telling you that deathclaws are ahead.
Just a shame that Deathclaws sometimes wander outside of these warnings. Which is great for a low level character.

Seriously, I'm not opposed to these areas, but I wish they didn't put them right near the tutorial town.

Deathclaws, need I say more? I find if you have a high Agility and Perception you can safely go just about anywhere. You will occasionally find a nest of Nightstalkers that take you buy suprise, but most other things can be seen and avoided with a little bit of caution.

Everyone in Goodsprings warns you "Not to go north because there are critters up there that just get madder when you shoot them"

Which is incredibly unhelpful vague advice. But it still doesn't negate my previous point. Putting ridiculously strong enemies near the starter town is never a good idea. Even if they stay were they are supposed to be, it makes the player feel limited about where they can go right at the start of the game. And when your pathfinding sucks and the enemies wander out of these areas and attack low level players, it's even worse.

super mutants were across from vault 13 in fallout 1 and i don't remember anyone complaining. these were the master's stuper mutants, with 100x the firepower of the mutants later. you just have to watch where you're going.

in fallout 2 the enclave was next to the start town and if you wander south you die. same thing. that is the REAL fallout for you, not the hand holding of fallout 3.
First of all, don't give me a lecture about THE REAL FALLOUT because I've played the old games. And yes, you could go South and get murdered by the Enclave right at the start of the game. Odds are you wouldn't though, since exploration in that game is completely different. You had no incentive to randomly wander around on the world map since it wasn't anything but a map.

Second, none of this negates my point about Obsidian's shitty pathfinding leading to these enemies wandering out of these areas and killing low level players.

I just recently discovered Cazador on my way to Vault 22 and they killed Rex, Veronica and me about 20 times, in the end I loaded an oldish save to get past them. I'm level 14 with like 84 Gun skill and can't get beat them at all.

Incidentally, I'm level 14 and haven't gotten inside the Strip yet, not sure if that's how it should've worked out or not.
They killed Rex? How? My rex only gets knocked out.

OT: Cazadors rip me apart as well but I havent hit a part of the game yet where I am not capable enough to get through.

I had the same thing with the bugs. Tried to take them on, but got horribly mauled. It's annoying as hell that I have to go south to level first, before I can go explore north. I'm sure it's possible to sneak past them, but I don't want to have to spend all my points into sneak or some such strategy. espically annoying when the game is all about exploration, and I'm being forced to go in a linear path more or less.
