"No! Don't get the flag!" But, that's the objective, "NOOOOO!"

Really? I thought only 6 year olds played with the tried-and-untrue "Stand on your base like a retard and shoot anything that comes forward till you lose" stratergy.

Well, at least when I play with someone who does that, he actualy IS 6, and we're on opposite teams...

It's really annoying when those people are around... Although, when it's a consensus between everyone (or the majority) to turn a game of Guardian on GoW 2 into a full on team death match, that's where the fun starts.
*Sniff* I can't play Guardian online anymore, purely because I don't want to (and can't afford to) pay half the game's retail price again for the extra 9 maps or so they have now. Why can you only play Guardian on map packs? Why?

I've had that countless times on Halo: Custom Edition. Despite being old Halo CE still has a dedicated modding community and thriving online userbase on PC, beyond that of Halo 2 on Xbox, even (before support was withdrawn from Halo 2, obviously). And so when I've played on there I've often ended up stumbling into games that claim to be RP or Stunt servers only. So when I've expressed my dispproval and tried to play the actual game, I've been threatened with kicks and bans from the server. All for trying to play the game properly.

I don't really see what the big deal is with RP or Stunt servers. I guess if you're making a machinima, then fine, but anything else is just stupid and doesn't make sense to me. I fire up Halo if I want to play an online shooter, and go out and get a few headshots or steal some flags. I don't play it just for people to spam me when I enter a server, saying "Go Blue! Go Blue! This is an RP game!". That kills the whole enjoyment for me...

this pretty much happened to me the first ever time I played MW2, so I don't play it. It also once happened in TF2 where a guy claiming to be a server admin said he'd ban me if I didn't remove my sentry gun from next to the control point. we lost the point about 20 seconds later and the game in under a minute.

I remember something like this in a Source mod called zombie master...
Instead of trying to do the objectives, were trying to glitch a train that happens to drive through the map by stacking a lot of junk in its path.

i had one of those times,i was in a squad of 4 in BF2 and my squad leader and other squadies are acting completely stupid and camping spawn points! i said fuck them and went off on my own and took over 6 points by my fucking self! and do you know what they say "what the fuck are you doing! dont you know how to play this game, use team work!" so they request the commander OF THE USA SIDE (or whatever is is) TO WAIST AN ARTILLERY STRIKE ME! and just me cause i was in a clear area no enemies.they had mics i didnt,so i heard them saying "haha look at him squirm!" then i typed to them "wtf are you doing? i can hear you,ive been the only one taking points while you guys have had your thumbs up your asses spawn camping!" they say "were close to a metal(or rank i cant remember)!" im not gonna sit around and spawn camp! (even though im a sniper) im gonna push against my enemy! achievements or ranks are are ok,its the achievement whores that ruin them.fucking assholes any we won that game too! ...

your playing MW2, what do you expect?
This happens in about any game with achievements or the like, although I haven't noticed it in BC2 yet...
Thats because DICE was smart enough to not include any specific multiplayer achievements.
Only things like "blow up 1000 walls" and "kill 5 people with every pistol" and a few more for ranking up and getting ribbons.

Although lots of people seem to like sniping on offence on Rush.

You can't win the game if you sit on your asses sniping all the time
That is my #1 complaint. Snipers might rack up some kills for themselves, but on offense they don't do much to actually help their team win. especially when it is Rush, and defenders have unlimited reinforcements.
Not me. I love sniping on BC2, but I assist my team. This involves covering the charge when it's been planted, sniping enemies who run to disarm it and calling in strategic mortar strikes. It's very much a team game.

Can't say much for MW2 though.

I haven't been in this situation, but that's more because I can't really, due to my lack-of-high-speed-internet.

Given the situation, I don't think I'd object so much if they said "Dude, hold off on the bomb. I want to see if I can get a nuke". Asking nicely helps a lot.

In TF2, I see a lot of people turn tail and run at the end of the round and search for a hiding place instead of making a last desperate dash at the objective. I guess they worry about their k/d ratio or something, which makes me want to punch them in the teeth.

If I had a penny every time I see a point clear of defenders, 5 seconds left in the round and an offence class well within reach of the point start trying find an unexpected hiding spot... Well, I wouldn't be rich, but I guess I could throw those pennies at them.

Has happened a couple of times. Like in Battlefield Heroes (two teams capture spawning points and kill each other) some guys wanted us to stop killing each other and just fuck around on some hill. That was quite fun though. :)

All the time mate....all the time.

People who only want to get kills play capture the flag and all that because they can camp at the objective but when the objective gets moved or goes because thats how you play the F**KING GAME. They throw a fit.

people who play another mode than what they're playing are annoying anyway, like purposely not capping in ctf or hq or whatever but just trying to get a lot of kills... but the stupidest thing of all is that they include achievements for killing yourself like 'fall 30 feet to your death' or something like that... they're encouraging you (and rewarding you) to oppose your own team... weapon challenges are better but it still encourages use of the GL, which is really bloody annoying.
as for the wow achievements, they're totally useless (unless you care about tabards and titles), but they don't break the game. it's either 'kill a boss in a certain way' which isn't that far from 'kill boss' or it's something even more useless like /love every critter, which you do solo and therefore doesn't really affect anyone else.
I suppose they serve a purpose in that they get people to experience more parts of the game and they add a little variety but other than that they're useless. but they're not really gamebreakers, which is more than i can say for mw2 challenges.

OT: You get a lot of crap like that in WoW with people trying to do achievements (ie doing a boss event incorrectly for the sake of arbitrary points) when all you want to do is kill the guy, loot and move on.
Oh god yeah I remember that. I would go in just to do the daily dungeon and then someone would keep getting us killed to get an achievment.

There are a lot of people who seem a bit moronic online though. That is what creates half the fun/humour though.

I find this happening somewhat in BC2, though without the shouting. (Only being able to communicate with your squad is a good idea.) Bomb is planted, sniper is capable of getting there defuse it without the use of legs, but they don't. Because they get far more XP for sitting exactly where they are and sniping. And since 99% of people play as snipers when defending, it means sometimes not one person will lift a finger to stop the bomb. Not a problem to defuse if you go for it, generaly only one person will defend the bomb.

People ignore the objective on Demolition and it enrages me so much. For me, half the fun in Demolition is trying to sneak up on one of the targets to plant a bomb and trying to run the fuck away before the other team come back.

Thing is, it's no longer a war to get the bomb planted. I tend to be able to run right up, plant the bomb and run away again without seeing a single enemy. Then it takes them ages to defuse and none of my team go back to stop the defuse. It's incredibly stupid because I don't like Team Deathmatch. I play Demolition because the fact that it's an objective-based game implies that I'm gonna be able to play without worrying about my k/d (I've got a dire k/d but that's because I play objective-based games and actually go for the objectives).

One good thing is though, I've started talking to a bunch of guys who also prefer to go for the objective so we get a full team together for Demolition/Domination/S&D/etc. and actually own the other team because they all camp vaguely near the targets in a select few positions.

that's a huge problem, especially in mw2, but also with the horrible recon plague in bad company 2...people who think they are totally uber-pr0z with their 3/1 kd, while contributing NOTHING to the team goal..but they won't play TDM either, because there it's what you are supposed to do, and people are alert and carefull, so you can't camp that nice. rather shoot some poor shmuck running to actually get things done and plant bombs or whatever, easy kills... -.-
