Too much is expected of him and just like with the kingdom of the krystal skull, that will just lead to disappointment. Nothing big will change.

Why do they keep comparing him to Kennedy? he wasn't great - yes he was charismatic, but he was a womaniser and only managed 2 years then got assassinated...

As I said on my journal, while we would know where President McCain would have been leading us, even if it was bad, President Obama is a wild card. He has the potential to turn this country around for the better. However, he could waste it, and let this country slide further into trouble. Or instead of trying to DO something, he could decide to simply fix the problems of Bush and not do anything for himself. He needs to be another Roosevelt for this country. He needs to make the tough decisions, the right decisions, even the unpopular decisions to turn this country around. If he wants to straighten up this country, he has to make sure he isn't worried about any "image" he has. He has to do the right thing regardless of what it makes him look like. In this regard, he will only be a one-term president, if he chooses the route that will get this country where it needs to be.

I'm a bit worried that he's going the same way as Bush with the tax cuts as stimulus plan.
But I trust his judgment and his advisors a hell of a lot more than I trust the Bush administration.
Obama's biggest obstacle is his own Democratic Party, which has not been able to unite on the issues since it was created in 1800.

Obama will do great things for the economy, foreign relations, and undo some of the civil rights damage inflicted by the Patriot Act.

I'm stoked that he's our president. If he runs this country half as well as he ran his campaign, he'll be the greatest president in my lifetime.

But ultimately, he won't free us from the Federal Reserve and he's still pro-whatever-Israel-wants-to-do. I would have voted for Ron Paul or Ralph Nader over him.

the economy will improve because consumer confidence will improve simply because obama is president. foreign relations will improve because foreign countries like obama more than bush.

honestly i don't think obama needs to do much of anything to be considered a successful president.

1. At least now its the republicans turn to complain about a president.
2. GL Obama, 9 out of 10, your presidency is going to suck worse than Bush's
3. Universal Healthcare is fine with me as long as he accomplishes it by controlling the Insurance company instead of the doctors, otherwise medicine is F*CKED
4. Troops in the middle East, going in was a mistake, but leaving would be a bigger mistake
5. Abortion is wrong, and the arguments for it seem oddly familiar, maybe we should say a fetus is 3/5's of a person since apparently they are less human then us fully grown people.
6. Of course nothing i say against Obama matters because many democratic friends of mine say that criticising him makes me racist.

His term will be shitty because of the senate. The senate will also make our lives shitty here in the states, and as a result we will blame Obama like the sheep we are.

edit: I'm more worried about Joe motherfucking Biden making things worse for everyone else while lining his pocket.

I'm going to enjoy this primarily because there's a staunch conservative in my first period class and I get to rub it in his face when Obama does an awesome job.
Same here.

Universal Healthcare is my biggest concern and I'm hoping Obama will enact some legislation moving us towards that!
That's Biden's job. He's President of the Senate.
It's the responsibility of the Congress and Senate, not Biden. Biden's only real responsibility in the Senate is to cast a tie-breaking vote if it's needed. Ultimately, it's Obama's job to sign into law any legislation that would come from Congress and the Senate regarding Healthcare.

No offense, but you need to brush up on your civics bro!
Not just him, Cheney does too. Did you hear about how, since he can cast a tie-breaker, he's been able to avoid oversight in both the Executive and Legislative branches by saying that he, as VP, heis a member of the opposite one of the one asking questions (i.e "I would answer your questions, but technically I'm a member of the Senate")? And some people actually believed that!

All the good ones do.
Ya Garfield sure did a lot for this country
As did McKinley.

1.Its about time you got a chance.
2.What do you mean
3.I agree, and it looks like he'll do it by providing insurance for those who don't have it.
4.True, while going in was bad, leaving while everything is unstable would be worse.
5.I disagree with your arguments on this, but lets not turn this into an abortion debate, those never turn out well.
6.Its not racist, unless your reason for disliking him is because he's black. While I may disagree with you, your reasons are valid, not racist.

I'm praying that he does well. I want him to make me want to vote him come next election. I didn't vote for him, but that doesn't mean I don't want him to fail. America (and the world in a more indirect sense) is more important than my political affiliations.

I, however, don't think he'll do that great. If he does good, it won't be in the god-like manner some people think.

2. I probably shouldn't have said it will suck worse, people will consider him a good president even if the next 8 years are a lateral transition for the USA.
The Middle East is unstable, the economy is bad, several other complaints, while obama doesn't have to do much to be considered a good president, the job of the president is really to be a figurehead for congress. If congress fixed anything for the country Obama will get credit, Unless he Publicly states that it was congress who fixed something, i will consider him to be a bad president, the same way i consideed Andrew Jackson to be a bad president

The way how I wish things would go sounds a little like this: Obama will not be the worst we've had yet he will still disappoint democrats so much that they see this as a time to abandon their party after a failure like they have done before in order to be where they are now. With the democratic party in ruins, as it should have been from the beginning(they were barely working together) and the republicans with the same bad reputation thanks to Bush, they will have about seven choices:

1. Join my Libertarians
2. Join the "Green" party
3. Join those crazy Constitutionalists
4. Become independent
5. Flee the land in hopes of a better life(which will leave them equally disappointed)
6. Make up a political party that constitutes rubber(not real) ducks as people.
7. Kill yourself(always an option and I had to throw it out there)

And that's how I hope this turns out, Because who's the most logical party once the big two are down? Mine!

Sadly even I'm a part of the classic American thought process of "Get rid of my enemies and then I'll have the power".

I think he's gonna get assassinated and then you crazy Americans will go absolutely bonkers because that man is your last ray of hope. And when he gets whacked by like the CIA or oil companies you'll all want payback blame it on some middle eastern country and nuke the shit out of them.

Wouldn't it be totally awesome if he sucked as president? Think how funny that would be.
No other black man would be voted into office for a long long time if that were to happen. Even though he is half white...we only look at the skin color, not the roots. Kind of Ironic.

Frankly I think that hes just what we need right now. I don't think he has foreign policy down as well but his overall plan for our economy is going to help pull us out from this depression we are heading towards. My only worry is that people will have unrealistic expectations and not look at what is being attempted.

But that's SOCIALIST! DUN DUN DUUUUUN!
Screw that, whats wrong with socialist medicine, i like what they have in switzerland. As long as they don't achieve universal healthcare by making doctors government employees. If they do, no one will want to be a doctor because they will have to deal with the shit of life and death, lawsuits, and some really moronic patients (like the morons who take an overdose of a medication, then sue a pharmaceutical company because they almost die) with a below average salary.

I find it amusing that people trust the democratic party to cure an economic crisis, 80% of all economic crises in the history of the USA, starting with the panic of 1837 and ending with the mortgate crisis, were caused by the democrats
