It'll be a bucket of fun.

Good thing we've got the economic situation to blame on him otherwise, you know, he might be a great president.

To be serious, I'm really hoping it'll be a good 4 or 8 years. I'm tired of poor decisions from the White House. I also am rather optimistic about him changing up the economic shituation.

The problem is that the USA dont ahve a socialist party or anything, its just right wing vs. not so right wing.
In austria we have:
1 conservative party, 1 small right wing party (more conservative), 1 big right wing party( more extreme), 1 big socialist party and finally 1 green party

socialist and conservative are the biggest ones, and they form a coalition right now...

Obama has quite the mess he's going to inherit. I voted for him, and I'm looking forward to him doing his best to fix it.
That said, I think that the first 6 months to a year is going to be a huge frakkin mess. I think that Obama will do what he can to fix things, but I think the biggest complaint is going to be how it's not going fast enough for some people. But I think next year he'll have gotten the swing of things, and things will start to look up.
Bush screwed everything up in 8 years, it's not going to be fixed overnight. We are not going to wake up in Paradise with fat pots of gold at the foot of our beds on January 21st. But I think it will get better.

I find it amusing that people trust the democratic party to cure an economic crisis, 80% of all economic crises in the history of the USA, starting with the panic of 1837 and ending with the mortgate crisis, were caused by the democrats
Right, sure, because the most recent one was not symptomatic of Regan getting us off the gold standard compounded by the Regan era mentality that led us to spend well beyond our means to the point where it almost became a requirement to live. It was the democrats who were responsible for encouraging credit to the point where people to the point where credit becomes 'mandatory to live' in a very real sense. Oh and lets not forget how the right has 'fixed' things by handing all the money over to the rich people who don't need it and then watching it drop down two levels of the social ladder to the lower upper class and calling that progress.

Look I have heard this all before, and please if your going to start pulling that 'they made it so teh banks had to give poor people laons' thing do more research. This all started because the people on wall street got greedy and started handing out loans based on other loans and using the new concept of the US dollar which is based on imagination and vague theory rather than anything concrete.

I'm pretty skeptical about his abilities and what he might do while in power.

But then again, I don't live in America. I live in a country where politicians are synonyms for "Thieves" and "bastards".
The word politician means pretty much the same thing here in the U.S.
I'm not convinced anyone could do very well considering the situation we've gotten into, at least there's not enough Dem senators for them to just force everything through. Neither side has it right as things currently stand and letting either of them go the direction they'd want would be dangerous.

Fun fact: America has been socialist as long as Americans have been on welfare.
Too true.

Meh. I didn't vote for him, but I'm not bitter about him winning and I do hope he does as well as all of his supporters think he will.

well, I'm not an American but I am a politics student so I know more about him than most Americans (I'd like to think)

I'm very pleased with the united states. well, I just really really hate the republican party. I'm hoping to see lots of liberal legislation to really make the bible belt get it's knickers in a twist.

I didn't vote for him. I dislike his economic policies and distrust him on past associations. I also dislike the weird, fanboy-esque following he has inspired.

Yes, we all hope he will have a sex scandel, and have a MASSIVE failure in economics

Honestly, I think he's just going to clutter up the news for a while with headlines like "Pres. Obama eats white bread sandwich to symbolise walls between races torn down" and eventually degenerate into a mediocre/bad president who will increase American resentment in the world and do little good.

But then again, I don't live in America. I live in a country where politicians are synonyms for "Thieves" and "bastards".
Your post is golden

The best part about Obama is not universal health care (do understand that we are in no position right now for such a radical change, that and there will be no new doctors. Can you imagine graduating with 200k in debt for a job that will pay it off in thirty years? Nope. Sorry if I wiped the sparkles out of anyone's eyes by being practical), but the fact that he's at least charismatic enough where I want him to succeed. Not like the last two elections, which were between a (huge) douche and a turd sandwich.

Meh, wished McCain would have won. I am not looking forward to the next four years, I expect it to be the same as the last eight years.

I am optimistic he will do a good job. I just don't like the "spread the wealth around" philosphy. If that becomes a problem, I will throw up my hands and say "my bad" for not voting for Nader.

One more thing. Anything racist anybody ways is trumped by the fact that he has a Cadillac limo. Maybe he did that on purpose for that reason?

Only funding for the military will go down severely. I'm supposed to 're-enlist' this next spring, but if there's no bonus or even proper funding for my job, what incentive do I have? It'll just be more dangerous! :(

I'm left of Obama and don't like the occasional hawkish stand he's took, how he let spying phone companies off the hook, how he took he's delaying taking back the Bush tax cuts. I don't like Biden's bankruptcy bill. On the plus side, it looks like he's trying to stop the US from torturing people.

As for Obama, I think at least he will act on what he says, because unlike Bush, he isn't gonna let his cabinet run the damn country for him!
No one person is intelligent enough or has enough time to run all of the logistics of every facet of the federal government. That's why cabinets exist in the first place... to run the damn country.
