Other than getting wasted drinking all the sherry at a family party over Christmas when I was 5, and sipping at parents drinks while still a small child, my first major drinking session was when I was about 13/14.

It was vodka, and rum, mixed with Irn Bru, and orange juice.

Nope, got handed a beer during a school party when asking for a coke, I was like 'oh well'. Drinking age is 16 over here by the way.

1. I can't remember when I first drunk but I was probably slightly over 18 at the time. It certainly wasn't on my birthday.

2. It was some beer of some kind. Tasted horrible. I still don't drink to this day, and I've never been intoxicated, the most I'll ever have of any alcoholic drink is a sip just to satisfy my curiosity on what it tastes like. I'll use red wine a lot in cooking though - red wine in pasta and meat dishes is a taste sensation... I also don't mind chocolate truffles with liquor in them...

Well, technically NZ has no legal drinking age, only a legal purchase age, which is 18. And no, i didn't wait till then. I sipped my Dad's beer at a very young age, wouldn't be able to say exactly but a random guess, perhaps 8 years old. I'm not sure that counts really though.

I didn't get drunk until i was 17 (on beer)... and the first time i was so drunk that i threw up i was 19 (absinthe).

Also, i'd advise against Whisky on the rocks as your first drink. It'll be strong. Like, 40% strong. Like, you'll take a sip and it'll burn strong. If you're not used to this, it may not be a good idea. Plus, you need to drink a quality whisky if you want it neat or on the rocks, otherwise it'll just taste plain nasty. That will be expensive.

I'd go with a beer. Chances are you won't like it straight away either, but give it a go and you may develop a taste for it. If you're in the UK, cider or ale are great too.

If you must have whisky, mix it with coke or something. (Don't mix an expensive whisky with coke though, that's a waste of money.)

For your first drink, I'd suggest getting one really good, high quality bottle of hard liquor, Scotch being my personal choice. All too often I see people get shitfaced on cheap booze during their first night of legal drinking, and then the next day they feel like crap and never want to drink again.

I say you sit down with a good Reuben, a nice glass of Scotch and listen to whatever music you like. After that you can slam screwdrivers and jagerbombs with your friends.

And to answer your first question, yeah, I drank before it was legal, but I don't know many that wait until 21 here.

1. Lol no
2. I can't remember. Probably some kind of beer, since then I have decided that I like spirits a lot more.

First drink I drank intentionally was a beer when I was 14. (Accidently chugged some champagne when I was about 5 or 6.)
Anyways - Don't go drinking whiskey first if you haven't drinken before. I know that in movies and whatnot it's described as a true gentleman's drink, and it is, but it's also very strong.
You wanna start out a tad slow, hell or else you'll end up spewing chunks all over

My 1st time drunk I was 15 years old and the legal drinking age here is 16 so yes I did drink before the legal drinking age.

But it isnt something unusual I see loads of underage people drinking. And that is perhaps a bad thing.

No to #1 I can remember tasting beer and wine when I was younger because I was curious and then of course never wanted to do it again.

That said the first time I got drunk however was in Italy when I was like 15, drinking wine and their culture is more open to younger drinking. But yeah I drank at parties and stuff in my 16-18 time, stuff either bought by someone's older brother or small amounts from my parents.

The interesting thing is I can't remember when I started to like, nay, love beer. I can remember a time hating it and me and my friends would drink "till it doesn't taste bad". I can remember a time around 18 tolerating it because it allowed me to get my drunk on. But these days I find I drink more oftenly say a well earned beer after hardwork rather than a lot for the purpose of getting drunk.

Just recently (like weeks) I suddenly went from tolerating wine to liking it (but only red) and I can pinpoint the exact moment I did.

I'm not a huge spirit fans (or a small one either), I will tolerate a good scotch on the rocks, but that's about it. Except for Gin and Tonics, I f**king love them. Made right they're so refreshing and nice. I drank them all the time when I was in indochina, because of the minimal malaria protection from the quine and the protection from other bugs because of the alcohol, plus it made me feel like a colonial explorer.

1) Yes. In fact, I actually waited until a friend's 21st birthday to drink, and he was a year younger than me.
2) Hard Cider. It was pretty nasty. So was almost everything I've tried after that. I find I absolutely despise the taste of alcohol, and won't drink anything that doesn't do a real good job covering it up. Seeing as virtually nothing does, and I really don't see what's so glamorous about drinking, anyway, I pretty much only drink if I'm pressured to in a social situation. And even then, only a little.

Hell, I've ordered a Coke at a bar once and couldn't drink it because I could still taste the alcohol residue in the glass. It's truly repulsive stuff.

I've had a little bit of Vodka before, but not really enough to be drunk. It was more to stop my friends shoving it in my face:p

#1 No, I did not. I started 'really' drinking when I was 16 and on. But I had my first ever 'drink', at 13 1/2. (If you are wondering if it's a racial, area, culture thing - I am American. Native American-Hispanic, German-Irish descent. My dad always said it was a dangerous combination. lol)

#2 Tequila shots. Three of them.
---
Usually, I love beer. Not the usual 'white-trash' piss beer, but darker beers. Ales. Arrogant Bastard, is one of my favorites. Guinness, is another. Fat Tire and Newcastle. I'll sit at the bar, put Johnny cash or Hank Williams/III on the jukebox, drink a beer alone, and then go home. Just ignoring everyone else around me. Yeah, I George Thorogood it sometimes! =D

Hard liquor -
Favorite: Spiced Rum and Dr.Pepper. If you heat it up in the winter, it will keep you quite warm cheeked. You can feel it all toasty in your belly too. Very pleasant feeling.

I enjoy a Whiskey and Coke (Not Jack Daniels. I've never liked that whiskey, and the sad thing is, it's the Whiskey of choice out here. We also have a lot of 'punks', and they'll drink that all the time. Jack Daniels, and anything piss yellow and extremely cheap. I told my friend I had aged Bush Mills Whiskey to celebrate an occasion, and he said 'no thanks, it's not Jack'. I then tried to punch him in the face with my mind, but it didn't work.)

Vodkas , I tend to mix with tart fruit juice - like Grapefruit juice. I enjoy Grey Goose, and Absolut. I also don't mind Smirnoff vodka. It's not so bad.(Don't drink Popov vodka. A lot of people in my small town like Popov, probably because it's very cheap. Our rule is to not drink any hard liquor that comes in a thin plastic jug. Blegh.)

As for wines. I don't usually buy them.
Red: I prefer the dull, cheap, juice (or Kool-aid) like red wines. Such as Lambrusco. I don't enjoy other red wines because,..really, they all taste like soy-sauce to me. No offense to serious wine lovers.

White wines: I'll drink any white wine provided it's free. (I remember, when my friend and I were drinking this white wine she was given as a present, and all she had were tea-cups to drink out of. That was a fun evening just laughing at the tea-cups.)

The day after my wedding, my husband, our best friend, and I - all sat around that evening after cleaning up and drank the last of the wine my Mother had brought. A bottle to each of us. XD We were so trashed, but it was all in good company. For a long while after, our friends called me four-bottle Nessa for how much wine I consumed. It was more like 3 1/2, but they made it four, it sounded better I suppose.

Then again, if it's free, I'll drink it. Even if it's considered shit. Except Popov.... never again. *shudder*

No, I didn't wait until legal drinking age. I'm still not and I drink every weekend, damn good time too.

My first drink? Vodgrad. God that piss was awful but it got me drunk. After that I drank both beer and vodka until I threw up after a night of a lot of vodka. Now it's just beer, sweet sweet beer.

I was a llowed a small glass of wine with special meals (Christmas, Birthdays, family do's etc..) from about the age of 7. Very Italian!!

My first serious drink was at 14 when my friends and I gathered along with the other youths in the local high street of our town one Friday night. We had a contest, who could down a litre of cider from the bottle the fastest. I won with a time of 23 seconds...........and yes, it was a really really stupid idea, that was also the night I started smoking!!

I became more responsible over time!
