Which overrated movie do I hate? All of them.

It only takes a certain amount of time before the hype well outgrows anything the film could offer.

Lessee... The Hulk, Independence Day, Cloverfield, Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions, Armageddon (or anything else by Michael Bay), too many to mention. Gladiator did an okay job of surviving its own hype.

I just saw The Lion King for the first time today. Yeah, it was good - for a '90s Disney movie. No, I don't feel that much more enriched for having seen it, especially since I'd already heard the soundtrack a dozen times and I knew how the story went.

Thank Christ I saw things like Avatar and Titanic as soon as they came out. The less you know, the better it is. What marketers don't seem to realise is just how quickly they can kill their own product by overdoing it.

Napoleon Dynamite. Cult following? This movie? Seriously? Its one of the worst comedies i have ever had the misfortune to sit through. Jon heder is devoid of any humour whatsoever. I can't stand this movie. The people i know that like this movie can't present an argument as to why they like it....Literally they just say...ehh yeh its hilarious man!! Nope. Sorry.

Nuther one is the hangover. Its a pretty average sex-com, Dunno why everybody latched onto to it as a "masterpiece"

Avatar. I hate Avatar with a fiery passion.

I really didn't find it that pretty and I sure as shit didn't find it any smart. He had the worst, most pandering, most annoying, most obvious set of messages I've ever seen in that film. I thought I would hate it before I saw, but I had no idea.

DISCLAIMER: I have nothing against shallow entertainment. I liked The Expendables. My favorite movie is The Rock.

Avatar just pissed me off so much by pretending to be smart and edgy. It's none of that.

And it wasn't even that good-looking.
You, my friend, are going to be quoted a lot. :D
Including yours, I've gotten 13 quotes.

So, yeah, your prediction is correct.

I was a military history major at West Point so yeah, that movie offended me on an intellectual level like no other.
It's not meant to be historically accurate in the slightest.

You all know there's a difference between seeing a movie and not personally enjoying the movie and a bad movie right?

Anything made by Quentin Tarentino or however you spell it. If I removed all the gore and replaced it with explosions they would still look like it fit perfectly, and I could easily trick everyone here into thinking it was a Michael Bay film.
Look I don't care if you don't like Quentin, I respect your opinion. But don't you ever, EVER compare him to the talentless puss-sack that is Michael Bay. Tarentino's Movies are supposed to be filled with violence, but the DIALOG is the stuff that really makes his movies great. Dude can write a script. Bay can do nothing. I'm revolted you would compare anyone other than M. Night Shyamalan to Michael Bay.

Evil Dead, I have wanted to like each movie. I tried watching Evil Dead 1 2 and 3. They where all suppose to be so different so gave them each a try and it wasn't scary it wasn't funny. Just not my bag-o-tea.

Blade Runner I have tried to watch maybe 10 times. I want to love this movie! It looks so pretty but I just can't get into the story. If it's any consolation I love that song from the movie "One more kiss dear". The umbrellas are so cool too. Darn I want to like it.

2001: A Space Odyssey looks like there is a good movie in there, I haven't ever made it to talking.

I'll start:

A Clockwork Orange. Yeah, Kubrik's good at things. Yeah, there's a lot going on in this one. Yeah, it's got some edge to it. But no, liking this movie doesn't make you deep. And it's not a damned masterpiece.
Do keep in mind your intended to be tripping pretty hard on psychedelic hallucinogens while viewing Kubrick films.

I wonder how many people actually understood what kind of movies we are talking about here. For all the Twilight haters, those movies are not
okay, a bit artsy, and anyone who wants to seem the least bit deep treats them like they're the newest testament of the freaking gospel.
. They're just terrible films and not overrated in the same way as, say 2001: A space Odyssey (which bored me to death too).

All the films I can think of have been already mentioned. Avatar has been said too many times, but I'll add to it that it didn't understand what it did well until the last 45 minutes or so, and then it was already too late to save it from mediocrity.

Blade Runner... Now I wouldn't say I hate this movie... Because I don't. However, I'm just not all that bothered about it. My father put it on for me to watch and told me it was an excellent thought provoking movie... "Something right up your alley" He told me. So right then, I sit down... I watch it... Finished it... And thought "Yeah... That was pretty good".

The visuals were brilliant, the films art style is something to behold... Seriously, I love that art style they were going for. The acting is also pretty good... Just well, out side of the visuals and some neat lines here and there... I don't see what all the big fuss is about.

Don't get me wrong, its a smart and visually beautiful movie... Just not as good as what most people make it out to be... In my opinion of course.

I also didn't like Twilight neither, though it seems the I'm not alone on that one, most of the internet seems to hate it so I don't know whether it classes as "Overrated" or not. It did fetch quite a few awards so...

As for TDK and Avatar... I liked them, I thought they were pretty good movies. Avatars story wasn't exactly original but I thought it was still a pretty good movie. Certainly not as bad as most make it out to be. Though it does make me smile a little, its become so overrated in the eyes of the internet that its gone full circle, right into underrated.

Not a lot, however given that the thread quickly turned into a "What hyped up film do you hate" I think I'll just carry it on. The O.P was more looking at films like 'No Country for Old Men', 'There will be blood' or 'The Proposition' (All three films I like too).

Scott Pilgrim. I would explain, but I've done it enough times already.

Presumably you didn't like Hot Fuzz, then.
No, Hot Fuzz is one of my all-time favorite movies. I watched it twice during one summer and both times I laughed throughout the whole thing. Why wouldn't I like it because I didn't like Scott Pilgrim?
Because Hot Fuzz is the closest thing to Pilgrim I can think of in terms of overall style of the movie. If Hot Fuzz was about video games and comics instead of cop shows and car chases, it'll resemble Scott Pilgrim in my opinion.

I wasn't a big fan of "There Will Be Blood."
I don't hate it.A freind had told me it was good, so I was looking forward to watching it. But I thought, it was too long.

That's it. I genrally like movies. I wouldn't make a good critic, show me the worst movie of all time and I would say "Aye, it's alright. A movie to watch when a bit drunk, 3 stars".

Same here and I play freaking Warhammer and say to myself.
How in the fuck can that happen?

But another movie which insulted me in such a big way that I almost exploded with rage are all the Supermen movies.
I freaking hate them all.
And Twilight.
Plus Pirates of the Caribean.

Ha ha you guys! I was totally trollin'! The dark Knight is my favourite movie of all time and I think Heath Ledger was great in it!
Also remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said "Goodbye," and you were like "No way," Then I was all like "We pretended we were going to murder you," That was great.

OT: Inception. I haven't seen it, and I'm not particularly interested in seeing it. Right after it came out though a lot of people I know were talking about all this dream stuff, and it really irked me.
I haven't seen Inception either but I'm under the impression that a big chunk of it was stolen from the excellent 2006 Japanese animated movie Paprika.

I thought trolling was not allowed on the Escapists *shrug*.
Well, yes! Inception did suck.
And Watchmen *cough**cough*.

You will. One day. I hope. I really do hope.
You know he only got rewarded for it cause he kinda died, right?
Please, don't go there mate.
I'm begging you.
To each his own opinion, and I'll respect yours.
But you could say that to some folks, and I am not joking, they would hit you for that.
People can get super offended by those kind of comments.
People should grow up then.
Blockbusters and superhero movies specifically don't usually get rewards for acting. I won't say more. I won't argue.
whether I agree or disagree with you, just chillax! seriously, dude

and yes, people should grow up

Avatar. Just Avatar. I easily knew the plot, and pretty knew much how it was going to end simply by watching the trailer. James Cameron had to film it in 3-D because the characters and plot were so one dimensional, that he had to compensate somehow. It kind of pretty, but also pretty shitty. Many people have mentioned this movie, but what can I say; they're right. It's kind of a shame because I really enjoyed Cameron's earlier work like Aliens and Terminator 2.

Another thing I've noticed about this thread is that the title is about overrated movies. When people mention the Twilight movies they have to realize that these films sold well because of swooning teenage fangirls, but were universally despised by critics and panned by most sane people. Doing well at the box office ≠ overrated. Case in point: Transformers. I kind of liked it as a mindless "Let's just blow shit up flick.", but naw, nothing great. It did turn a profit in the theaters though.

Movies I did like though: I really liked Heat. I don't think it was overrated though, as it pretty much got mixed reviews. I enjoyed it though; hell I even own the DVD. And say what you will; I loved Inception.
