It's the typical "post that doesn't actually constitute a sentence" that reminds me I probably shouldn't bother arguing on the internet.

And people are wondering why these companies are deciding to ignore them in favour of console gamers who just want to play games? Really?
Well, here's the thing; dedicated servers are the benchmark of online PC gaming. Without them, PC basically = console in the online respect. I don't mind PC being on console level for MW2, but the fact that they've downgraded it to be on console level is a major dick move

I don't care for the CoD series.

I personally buy games for the single player experiences. Multiplayer is a bonus.

Anyway, just keep in mind that PC gamers are VERY nerdy. Just because something is claimed to be 'unmoddable' doesn't mean it is so. The titanic was 'unsinkable', we all know how that turned out.

Remember, PC gamers can do alot of crazy crap with games.

When there's a will, theres a way.

I could care less about this really. Not a big shooter fan in genera, despite having both Red Faction: Gueriella, and Borderlands (I'm pretty bad at both). :p

I tend to agree that internet calls for a Boycott, and petitions really don't matter. Nor does a game company saying "oh Australia, we're so disappointed with you" before deciding not to release their game there (or editing it for release) and going off to sulk.

Truthfully if gamers want more respect it takes actual action. It doesn't have to be inherantly criminal, but if your upset over Modern Warfare II, get a bunch of friends together and hang out outside a local Gamestop and badmouth the game and try and convince people not to buy it. Then if your arrested (unlikely actually as long as you stay on publically accesible property as opposed to entering the store) make sure to have one of your buddies record it for Youtube or your blog, and then use it for a rant.

See, a real protest involves people willing to make noise about it in a real sense, and not afraid to spend an hour or two downtown at a police station to make a point. Simply getting arrested and making a big deal about it, can do a lot to get a point accross.

Please note I don't expect anyone to actually do anything, anymore than they ever do. I'm just stating what the reality is.

Just as Valve doesn't have the guts to organized a "million nerd March" in Australia to protest the censorship policies and such, the factions of nerddom upset over a game (not just this one, but any of them so far) don't have the guts to say show up by the hundreds outside of Infinity Ward's office, or even coordinate people showing up outside gamestops and other stores to protest something.

As much as people laugh at "groups" like the Channers, one of the reasons why they get taken fairly seriously, and have even been mentioned on the news, is because their "members" will actually show up to make a scene (wearing Guy Fawkes masks or whatever) if they are interested. As much of a tough facade as some groups put forward nobody really wants to be the victim of their most recent ire.

In general I think with a bit of work the industry could become a lot more attentive to their gamers (as opposed to stockholders) with just a bit of energy and organization.

I'll be honest, angry MW2 players probably outnumber people who thought Habbo was stupid. Yet I very much doubt we'll even see attempts on Infinity Ward's sites. Never mind anything as enduring as "The pool is closed, there's AIDS in the pool" that will live on for years afterwards.

Anonymous is not a positive force (as they themselves point out) but they do demonstrate a lot of what COULD be done if the legions of Fandom were to get serious. A "benign" version of Anonymous that exists to keep the game industry in line and on it's toes? Well I guess I can always dream.

But still, my point is that instead of ranting about this kind of thing, if you care, go do something in person. Heck, if it makes you and your friends feel better wear a bunch of dumb halloween masks, and print out pamphlets or whatever explaining why people shouldn't support MW 2.

GameStop barely deals with PC games. And doesn't this thread count as badmouthing the game and convincing people not to buy it?

I preordered it almost the same day it was possible but now I canceled the order and I will go on a fishing trip in the Pirate Bay on november 10th.
I heard Pirate Bay was going legit, similar to napster... any idea when/if that's happening?
Buyer for Pirate Bay went bancrupt literally days before he was supposed to turn pirates into corsairs. And even if he will miracously conjure cash, there are still others... That's what's great about internet. You chop one big tree down, two smaller ones will take its place.

Oh, how petty of all you PC gamers. You've had it too good for too long.

Or, more logically, removing dedicated servers might be some sort of cost-cutting measure. After all, this is an economic recession, and Activision/Infinity Ward are businesses as surely as PC gamers are not.
There are three things wrong with that statement.

Try and work them out for yourself, maybe you'll actually use your brain for once.

Well, I suppose you don't need to. Someone as hilarious doesn't need to be clever.
I wasn't sure of the definition of "dedicated servers" when I wrote the original post, which was very stupid of me. I caught a lot of flak for that.

Still, the only reason I can think of for removing dedicated servers is some way to cut costs. Presumably dedicated servers require some programming that doesn't need to be done now. And having every version of MW2 be as identical as possible may save more money in future patches or something like that.

Anyhow, I apologize for my original post. It was rather dumb of me. (Now I have to say similar to the other people I pissed off.)
Surely dedicated servers save the company money, because the players and communities provide the servers themselves?

I don't actually know, but I don't think Bowling said anything about saving money, he just said some vague stuff about presenting the best consumer experience...

I actually don't know why they are doing it now that I think about it.

Yes... internet boycotts really get companies trembling so much.
They do.

They make them worry about the loss of a couple of fans who don't like what they're doing.
It makes them go 'OH NOES!!!! We are gonna lose $/£1000 pounds at launch! Howz will we ever continue?'

Anyway, it reiterate my position, IW won't possibly care.

And I don't care either being a 360 gamer.

Haha exactly. Also here's a fun for instance. If the boycott hypothetically was successful, it'll just mean Infinity Ward will decide not to bother with the PC market with the next game they make and just purely do console games.

Not cool. Please don't flame fellow gamers, it comes across as rather sad.

I'm a 360 gamer, and I would love to have a COD4 game that isn't riddled with host advantage, lag and cheaters. That is what dedicated servers can provide.

This is a dick move on IW's part and I can completely see how the PC guys are pissed about it.

Imagine you have a clan, a huge group of buddies you always game with who you know will play fair and for fun, and you are suddenly cut off from ever playing with them.

What a bunch of bullshit, IW.

PC Gamers and Console Gamers are both GAMERS, and NEITHER is better than the other.
Finally, someone said what was needed to be said. We are all gamers. We shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves because of one game.

Though it would never happen, it would have a certain lol factor if they did.
TBH, the guys who are 'boy-cotting' they seem to be the 'PC elitists', the guys who believe 'true' gamers should be PC gamers and to be honest, they are making the rest of the PC gamers look bad and possibly making the other PC gamers hate them as well.

Well they sure do know how to piss on our bonfire.

What exactly was the motivation for this? Is there some secret reason we're not allowed to have the kind of facilities we've had for the last 5 games? WHY?!

No. You think this will be EFFECTIVE?

Oh, IW will be so angry that about 10 random people on the internet have had a 'nerd raeg' and refuse to buy their game?

Ooooh, that'll kill their company!

Just STFU. Noone likes boycotts, they don't work, they annoy people and the people who do them don't understand that what they're doing is wonderfully innefectual.
Ummm, hate to burst your bubble (not really, I'm actually enjoying this), but a lot more than 10 people have boycotted/ canceled their pre-orders over this. It's actually more like a hundred thousand.(http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?dedis4mw) So no, you STFU. Or at least have enough decency to back up your statements with facts. And for the record I'm not totally against the matchmaking system, but i think it'd be better if it was paired with a server browser.
You presume that I give a shit. You presume wrong. I was referring to THIS THREAD. Not the entirety of the fucking WORLD. Oh, so you expect me to rifle through piles of statistics simply to point out how many whiny fucktards have cancelled their order? If a game's singleplayer isn't good enough to stand on its own two legs, what's the point? I wouldn't buy a game if it was solely intended for multiplayer. They, apparently, don't think the Singleplayer is WORTH their money, so it's best that they DON'T buy it, as they are undeserving.
Major dick alert!!! Call the waaaaaambulance!

Go fuck off asshole. We PC gamers do what we want to do. I have canceled my preorder already and we don't need your douchebag opinion cluttering up the threads.
We don't need this fighting or flaming on here. Console Gamers and PC Gamers are both Gamers and there is no reason to fight amongst ourselves over one game.

Also, if someone is making you mad just ignore them.

God console fanboys are obnoxious twits. Kindly piss off, this has nothing to do with you.
