This, a 1000 times this.

I look back at my 13 year old self and cover my face with my hands. I didn't have nearly as much fun as I should have done. I was lame.

I'm almost 24, and I know a lot of people who never bothered growing up. Perpetual state of childhood. Not sure why.
Because it's fun!

Nothing wrong with idiots. I have more fun with idiots than I have with smart ass pricks.

I've been waiting for my generation to catch up to me in the "Maturity" department for many years. I'd assumed that after high school, we would be on the same level. Little did I realize that I'd gone ahead to the "family man" stage while everyone else was just going on to the "getting blitzed-out drunk every damn day" stage.

And the whole "it's not immature, it's FUN!" statement just irritates me. Mainly because we all know it is impossible to have ANY fun whatsoever while acting responsibly. /sarcasm

To the OP - at the end of the day, just be yourself and do whatever makes you happy.

27 here - the world is filled with complete fucktards - that doesn't change as you get older.

Protip: Most "adults" these days are just immature shitbags. Nobody these days seems to grow up anymore. They get out into the real world and never bother to actually strive for anything more than mediocrity. Their lives continue to revolve around teen high school drama level horseshit and they think that that's ok.

It's important to continue to have fun in life, that's just fine. Hell, I'm 26 and still love gaming, going to PAX, and all those other nerdy things. I recognize the ever lasting need for play and enjoyment of life.
Unlike most everyone else though, I realized that there's more to life than just working a job I hate, dating women I don't particularly like, and basically just wasting my life. You think all those people at the bars are actually having fun? Hell no, they consider that the be all end all of their week. They "dread mondays" because they hate the jobs they have. They whine about the people that they're dating. They drown themselves in alcohol, casual sex, and just one night's worth of fun to help them get through their pitiful lives.
And that's what passes as maturity these days. People don't grow out of high school anymore, they just trade going to classes for a day to day job. They keep on living through the same ole teen drama over and over and over.

Look at all the tools in this thread that think you need to cherish your childhood because you'll never have fun in life again. Guess what, they're all wrong. I love my job, I love the woman I'm with, I love my life and I have fun every day. I made it my life's goal to actually enjoy every aspect of my life and ever since I did that, my life couldn't be better. Hell, if I compared my time as an adult to my time as a child, I'd take adulthood in a heartbeat.

Maturity doesn't mean not having fun, maturity is being responsible and doing what you need to do. Too many people think being mature means no longer enjoying life. You can be an adult and have a lot of fun in life while still being mature. I know I do.

They're. Your welcome.
On topic, people aren't always mature. It's a peculiar side affect of life, but there you go.

Define mature in a way that is not purely based upon perceptions. Then I may be able to answer your question

13 year olds are often immature fools as they fit their stereotypes, and this does includes boys AND girls. Both sides are disgustingly closed minded, which leads to much of why they're immature. One of my favorite examples, they are mindless followers of hollywood, knowing whatever celebrities do, and buying whatever is "in" and fanatically shunning everyone who doesn't know who dumped who 10 seconds ago. I suppose it's good for the economy, but considering a lot of that money, if not all of it, is coming from their parents pockets, I feel sorry for them, of course had they raised their children right this wouldn't be too much of an issue.

True, but typically, you have more fun when you let go inhibitions and give into childish impulses. From personal experience, anyway.
I'll give you that, but there's a difference between giving into an impulse occasionally and living like a child all the time.

I'm 13 and I have the exact same thing, also, you're 14, to be 13 you need to have been born between 31/3/2006 and 30/3/2007 unless I am mistaken, which wouldn't be surprising because I am very tired.
You'd be 3 4 or 5 in that case too tired to work out which
Told you I was tired, make that 1996 and 1997, editing.

However clearly you're still immature.

And in other news I used to think that but now I can't work if thinking everyone else is immature makes me immature.

I'm around your age and reap the benefits of those older than me not EXPECTING me to act mature.

^^^This X 1000.
Squared.

And I'm only 22. I accept the fact that with each increasing year I will look back at the previous year and think the same thing.

There's a good quote that sums up this idea... from my memory here:

"When I was a younger man, I thought my father to be completely incompetent. As I age, I'm surprised at how reasonable he has become."

Hint: Dad stayed the same.

People who are too mature are annoying, but the immature pricks that make up the vast majority of my cadets are annoying immature little pricks around the 13/14 mark and we had a massive batch all join at the same time so there are far too many for me to deal with at once.
I have a fun little system going though.
1. Warning
2. Warning followed by a detailed description of what will happen next if they carry on
3. Punch them in the stomach (only lightly mind - I am 5 years older than them) then tell them why I punched them in the stomach
Its a fun little system that they seem to enjoy, and allows me to vent my anger without seriously hurting anybody.

Really? I dont know and have never known any 13 year olds like that, beyond a few girls who were stuck up cows.

it's a different time. People just aren't as moral and modest as they used to be. Morals just aren't as high. A sad, but true fact and there's not much one can do about it.

A hundred years ago the concept of adolscence did not exist. Either you were a child or an adult. As such 'teenagers' were forced through social forces to mature into adults.

Skip forward to the modern era and society encourages teenagers to do nothing. Expectations of teenagers are extremely low. Teenagers have little to no responsibility. Immaturity then is not a surprising side effect. Nor is it surprising that immaturity can last well into the adult years. Kidults are a natural result of people (men) not taking on the responsibilites of a job, wife, family, etc.

Not to be personal but if you honestly think you are so much more mature, then you aren't.

I'm 16 and whenever I'm out with my friends I act like I've turned insane and so do they (laugh hysterically, tell awful jokes, fart loudly on each other etc.) I think part of maturity is being comfortable with acting like a complete bell end sometimes :D
