If Ireland has to change their national anthem for rugby and football to avoid offence then I don't think we are quite ready for this.
I don't understand this.
The Republic of Ireland has one national anthem, "Amhrán na Bhfiann". That is sung at football matches... That hasn't been changed at all?

The rugby situation is slightly different because it's not the Republic of Ireland team. It's the Island of Ireland's team. So they sing Ireland's Call (because that's related to the entire island) and also "Amhrán na Bhfiann" if they're playing at home. They don't sing the Northern Irish national anthem because that's "God Save The Queen"

I'm actually quite confused about what you're on about. But I think you're just mistaken.
Apologies I thought the away football anthem was Ireland's call as well. What I meant is if the country is still so divided that the national anthem of Ireland is offensive to unionists while the national anthem for England is offensive to Republicans I doubt a game that could be seen as opening old wounds would go down well.

To see an example of this check out any Wolf Tones or pro-IRA youtube video comments and the hate from both sides that breeds there. Saying that, this close to St Patrick's day and the Easter Rising the comments might be a bit one sided.

Horror set in Romania during the purges of Vlad the Impaler. But not done like Castlevania. You don't have holy power, you're just an inspector trying find and exorcise the various werewolves, vampires, ghosts, etc. haunting the countryside and villages, so as to remove the Impaler's single reason for the purges.

WW1. How many (good) ones do you see from that period? Imagine starting the game in a trench. Surrounded by your Comrades. You're talking amongst each other, you're waiting, waiting to get out into the field. Then... you hear a whistle and you have to climb into no-man's land. Left and right you see bodies falling. Now you have to survive or else you'll join them.

Or, for that matter, how about the Civil War? I know History Channel made one. But from what I heard, it wasn't very good. And the recent flop Darkest of Days was about the same, but it didn't focus on that period.

I have argued time and again with my friends, that Victorian London would be the perfect next setting for the Assassins Creed series. Brilliant architecture to climb on like Big Ben, St Pauls etc. A complex political background including the British Empire, invention of the police force, independence of America and it's following civil war, Jack the Ripper, an industrial revoloution. You could have Charles Babbage, the mad inventor of the world's earliest computer, as a Leonardo-type accomplice. I'm sure there's more, but you can probably get a very good game out of that.

I agree with this, when Assassin's Creed was first launched I was hoping there would be a great variety of historical periods, but they seem to have become bogged down in the Renaissance. Hopefully more historical games will be launched using the same (if not, a similar) engine. They don't have to be Assassin's Creed titles, but I hope Ubisoft does more with the engine and the historical settings.

victorian setting action rpg with some crime-solving elements like l.a. noire.
These are all examples of the correct answer to this thread.

Except: how about a GTA:SA-ish tour of the major European capitals. Paris, London, Vienna, St. Petersburg, Berlin.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a game set in 1890s Austria-Hungary. It would be set in Prague, Vienna, and Budapest and you can choose to help or crush the minority groups yearning for independence. Plus, a side-field trip to Belgrade.

I would like people to stop making FPS's about World War II and do one on the First World War, preferably before the Americans came in and claimed all the glory.

How about a game set in the Korean War or the time the way of the Samurai is dying when the introudution of firearm (you play a third person samurai). Also what about a game set during the hippy time (although this would be a bad thing).

Russian revolution. Seriously, trains firing broadsides at each other across snowy steppes, sneaky sneaky espionage stealing guns ammo etc, that wonderful notion of public speaking as a gameplay mechanic, unending brutality, a minigame perhaps where you nail a white officer's epaulettes to his shoulders, the gripping tension of having sod all ammo and finally and most importantly, having a genuine reason for every friendly AI member having the self-preservation skills of a twix bar.

Hell that would be awesome, not to mention you would have to survive being hunted by Sherlock Holmes..

OT: The life in the eyes of a British Redcoat would be cool, from being attacked at sea and fending off enemies and pirates to battling the native Zulu in Africa, 'theres thasands of em'..

Or a game where you play as a riot officer in a time of great social disobedience (due to some drug that everyone takes and so can be made to look evil for the purposes of this game).. that would be interesting to suppress rather than free people..

Some kind of city building game where you start with the most famous cities of the world pre-made for you (to a certain level of reality) and you then manage these cities and add to them and change them, almost seeing into the future choices that our cities could take..

Oh oh oh! I want a stealth/gorilla FPS! You know, you play like a ninja gorilla or something. Or just a regular gorilla.
There's an Indie game on 360, not an FPS but a top down shooter that may interest you called Kong360: Gorilla Warfare. Pretty fun to play with friends.
I don't have a 360, which would really bother me if I was still really into Halo and EDF: Insect Armageddon wasn't coming to PS3.

I think it would be interesting to play as a rescue worker following the earthquake in Japan or a similar crisis. The "gameplay" mechanic would be something along the lines of having to figure out how to find missing people, and how to save them from their respective situations. There is a deluge of games concerning how to solve a difficult situation with brute force; why not an experience concerning how to overcome adversity with empathy and quick thinking?

I'd like to see an RPG set in medieval europe where you can travel to various nations, or even just start off aligning yourself with a nation, say, England or the Holy Roman Empire.

I'd love a Assassin's Creed style game based in Victorian/Industrial Revolution London.

You could still have all the free running joy on the rooftops and through the market squares and tiny little streets. But have it in the dark, smoggy raining place that is London.

Probably not be an Assassin though... maybe a Gentlemen Theif, or some kind of early crime fighter, beating up muggers in the street to find out about some organised crime boss that is actually a front for a French plot to blow up parliment and invade England!... Got ahead of myself their a bit... >.>

I'm not sure how it would work, but I would love to play an FPS using muskets and other early gunpowder weapons. I'm guessing that bayonets and other melee weapons would play a bigger part than they do in most modern games.
I read abou a mod for Mount & Blade Warband that does this
