Signed.

After all the horrors I've heard around the world on the news and in ancient history, it still surprises me anyone could come to this.

Not trying to make light of this issue, but uh couldn't you just not let people know your gay and get out of the country asap.

It's like killing someone for a political idea like communism. Can't you just hide it?
The point is that you should never have to hide it.

Signed already.

To be perfectly fair, this part of the bill is for "aggravated homosexuality", in cases of rape of a minor by a person of the same sex, or where one partner carries the virus that can cause AIDs.
That is to say, they aren't killing gays, they are killing gay rapists and those with HIV, which is noticeably less genocidal.

The petitioning needs to be more about Uganda's long standing institutional discrimination against homosexuality, or about how this bill will imprison those who rent property to homosexuals. Frankly, by focusing on the part that executes rapists, you are focusing on the least egregious part of the bill. Uganda already imprisons those who are "convicted of sodomy", which is far worse than enforcing the death penalty for rapists and those who knowingly transmit HIV.
I feel that this should be in the OPs post.

No this isn't about rapists and pedophiles beeing sent to death but about gay equal rapists/pedophiles which I hope no amtter what country you're from you know it's untrue.

Also as said this isn't the first time this bill is proposed so if someone is interested in knowing more about the exact legislation and trouble in Uganda a quick google search will be 10 times more precise that whatever 20 lines I could have put in the original post.

I still think the only way your really going to solve these forms of rascism/sexism etc. is money. If people don't have enough time to sit around and question their homophobic beliefs they will never change. And I assure you a government who overlooks people mostly without the internet couldn't give less than two fucks about an online petition.
The petition is the only thing we, as individuals, can do to show our disgust at this and it's better than doing nothing. At the very least it shows our anger at their proposed legislation and how the richer countries of the world, who provide aid to Ugandan, feel about this.

I do agree with you're point about money being the solution. If it were used to provide the Ugandans with a system of education that didn't teach religion as a truth and as such didn't lead to these aborrent crimes against humanity motivated by religious zealotry.

Ah, already signed.

I can't understand people being against gays.

Like Doug Stanhope says: "Sodomy is eco-friendly."

Signed, would the UN let them do that?
Don't be fooled, the UN moves around financial interests as much as the next army. If there's no money/advantage for them in it, they'll stick to stern disapproval and angry letters.
So you think the UN should invade Uganda and impose our western values through violence..?

Stinking imperialist..

For some twisted reason I find this situation intertaining, because the government wouldn't acknowledge (nor care about) this internet list of names.

EDIT: Did they write when they stopped this before?
I'm not sure if I can write my name down as a minor.

EDIT2: Damn! There's even a Hebrew site. I'm impressed.

I doubt a country that kills homosexuals is going to change their views because of a petition.

It says that apparently they already did otherthrow such a bill once.
yet no actual details about the matter.

From wiki since it came first when I googled:
"The private member's bill was submitted by MP David Bahati in Uganda on 14 October 2009. Homosexuality is currently illegal in Uganda as it is in many sub-Saharan African countries punishable by incarceration in prison for up to 14 years. The proposed legislation in Uganda, however, has been noted by several news agencies to be inspired by American evangelical Christians. A special motion to introduce the legislation was passed a month after a two-day conference was held where three American Christians asserted that homosexuality was a direct threat to the cohesion of African families. The bill, the government of Uganda, and the evangelicals involved have received significant international media attention and criticism from Western governments, some of whom have threatened to cut off financial aid to Uganda. In response to the attention, a revision was introduced to soften the strongest penalties for the most egregious offenses to life imprisonment.

Intense international reaction to the bill caused President Yoweri Museveni to form a commission to investigate the implications of passing the bill. In May 2010 the committee recommended withdrawing it, but it remains under discussion in parliament as of February 2011.

I still think the UN would step in and do something about it if the bill does pass. Sure, there's no monetary gain to be had, but the PR would be a nice boost for them.

Over 1 million signed...now THAT's something.

Signed it. Not sure how much good it will do, but refusing to sign it on that basis would just be petty. I actually find it hard to believe that anybody could even support this bill. It's just fucked up.
