Jared made his way to the Cinnabar Gym, hoping to pick up badge number 5. I still have to go back and beat Brock. How many trainers make him their last target? Of course with Sabrina still nuts, how am I gonna get that one? He entered, immediately feeling the heat increase from the beach climate outside, it was almost like an oven. Blaine was just sitting there, finishing up a burrito.
"Um, hey, I'm not interrupting anything am I?" he asked.
"Another one? Jeez it's busy today," Blaine said slowly getting up. "All right, let's go."
"Don't you have like a riddle or something?"
"Fine, what gets wetter as it dries?"
"A towel?"
"There we go, you aced my Z material kid. I'm running low right now, so let's do this quick, 1 on 1, you win, you get the badge. OK?"
"Yeah, let's do it."
"All right then, Magmortar, come on out!" Blaine called out and from a small pool in a corner, a lava pillar burst up. Leaping up through it and onto the floor was Blaine's almost legendary partner, an imposing figure. "Feel kind of sorry for you kid, stocks are exhausted, so you have to face my strongest Pokemon. Hope you're not planning on using a Water type against me."
"Oh that's all right," Jared replied, "I wasn't planning on it. Nicky, let's do this!" Nicky popped out, smashing its arms together, already eager to face Magmortar.
"Niiiiiiiiido, nido, niiiiiido!" Ah, a worthy adversary, it will make my victory taste so much sweeter. Let us commence this battle!
"Well, at least it's not water, this will be different," Blaine admitted. "Let the match begin!"
"Nicky! Earthquake!" Nicky unleashed a punishing tremor and Magmortar took a direct hit. It was shaken up, but still had a lot of fight left.
"Impressive," Blaine noted. "But I'll show you the true fury of the volcano! Magmortar! Lava Plume!" Magmortar pointed its arms ad Nicky and fired, literally. Two streams of magma came flying at Nicky. He tried to dodge, but one plume caught him square in the chest, while the other just missed his head.
"Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii," You singed my precious face. Prepare to die.
"Oh Blaine, you shouldn't have gone for the head," Jared chided. "Now you've just ticked him off. Nicky! Horn Drill!" Nicky's horn soon gained a spiral of air around it, whirling faster and faster, until he took off, launched towards Magmortar, who was stunned by the sudden move.
"Niidooooooo!" This is where it ends for you.
It was a direct hit. Magmortar fell to the ground after the force hit it, it had fainted away.
"Well, that was quick, I wasn't expecting that sudden of an end, but I guess it was inevitable. Here you go kid, the Volcanobadge." Blaine tossed the badge over to Jared. "You know, you remind me a bit of myself. You train your Pokemon well, you have a fiery passion for what you do, and when you get knocked down, you rise like a phoenix above it all."
"What are you saying, Blaine?"
"I'm saying, I think you should be ready for greatness, kid. I got a feeling its going to come flying at you pretty soon. Just be ready to do it justice when you get it." With that, Blaine went into the back room. Jared just stood for a second trying to ponder what the old man meant by his parting words, then headed back for the hotel.
