This is really a tricky situation. For starters, the officer in question was not exaggerating when he commented that forcefully putting a small child in cuff in that situation could easily result in injury. Having said that though, you can safely use Tazers on mid-size minors (say, for instance, an unstable 10 year old girl), but it is immensely discouraged. There are extra risks, and since you are dealing with a little kid, should hopefully be a last resort.

Again, having said that though, the article (I'm working on some assumptions here, I wasn't there nor have I read an official report) sounds like he just gave her a quick shock, rather than a full charge. That would be enough to get her attention, but not enough to cause any damage or even any disorientation or muscle tension beyond several seconds. That ind of use is akin to accidentally touching live wires in an outlet. It stung, it got your attention, but unless you grabbed ahold of it and held on, you're not freezing up and falling over.

I would make a "don't taze me bro" joke, but that would be in bad taste. So instead, I'll give a valid point. "She won't take a shower, taze her ass" I know that that is not what she said, but I still think that telling the police that they can TAZE YOUR 10 YEAR OLD DOUGHTIER BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T TAKE A SHOWER.

Any cop that can't restrain a 10 year old girl should be fired. Besides, using mace instead would have made for a much funnier story, with no risk to the nervous system.

justified, but honestly i think he should have tazed the parents, a noisy anngry child, that the nature of the world, but since my brother was 3 ive told him you can only kick a man in the groin if he tries to kill you, and you need to be 100% certain, when he got the finger on the trigger and the gun to your head, go for the balls.

...the f...

What? That's ridiculous on many levels.

First of all she calls the police over her kid behaving badly, now that's just ridiculous.

Then the police actually shows up, the emergency-line call "my daughter refuses to go to bed" seems more like the stuff they play on a "funny calls" segment on a comedy show, not something they'd actually respond to.

Then the mother tells him that it's fine if he uses the stun gun on the kid. That just can't be legal...

Then he actually tasers the little girl. This scenario has reached such a height of surreal ridiculousness that I'm out of words for it.

Except maybe another resounding "What?"

Not to mention macing her would probably get her in the shower pretty quick to get it off her face.

It's a shame that in today's world... cops are mostly crooked and bent and get away with whatever the fuck they want.

They're the real Mafia these days.

Crap parenting, but I see why he used the taser - under assault from someone. Depends just how violent and whatnot she was whether the age factor should some onto it.

Its a 10 year old. What kind of damage can she possibly do to a fully trained cop?
Sterilization apparently.

if a six year old in a no loitering zone who, when asked to comply, attacks and injures an officer, then yes. You have to look at all the factors instead of "OMG a cop tazered a little girl because she didn't want to shower?!!!1eleven!!"
Oh, I'm sorry, which factors in the situation am I failing to notice against your keen eye?

Possibly, the child's loitering could cause major civil unrest, and when finished injuring the officer she's going to go on a one girl rampage of wanton Hannah Montana influenced carnage? At which point assault with a weapon becomes the last option and the only way of stopping somebody that's about three foot tall?
laughable on paper, but age is subjective. if the article was girl A called the cops on her room mate, girl B for situation X, when the cops arrived girl B was unruly, violent, ect and assaulted the officer, resulting in a tazering. you and anyone else would call that "problem solved" but as soon as girl B is a minor, you turn blind to the real issue.
you do NOT assault an officer
you do NOT dissobey your parents
On pain of assault?

What in the name of Christ is the real issue? Unruly six year olds going around assaulting the public free to do so because police offers aren't allowed to get medievil on them?

Ever been mugged by a rouge gang of children?
fear of pain should be enough of a detourant. I still can't hear my 1st 2 names without a complete body lock deer-in-the-headlights reaction my parents beat into me as a child. i haven't been mugged by rouge children, no. But when I was in 6th grade me and several people surrounded and repeatedly stomped on another boy, and in 9th grade I was robbed at knifepoint for my ipod (back when they were expensive) at a busstop. a line has to be drawn and inforced. I was lucky enough to show up after the stomping began and leave before it was over, but everyone who was caught recieved a stern talking to which we all laughed about. I guarentee nobody would be laughing if we were tried for assault

On the flip side, she wont do it again. Maybe she'll get a complex about being electrocuted and become an electrical safety engineer. See, there is a good side!

the problem isn't "what can a child do to a cop?" it's "why would a child even consider it?" a quick show of force and I bet that little ***** will think twice before disrespecting authoritah

Kids are little shits these days, so if I were him i'd have probably used my nightstick and beat the living shit out of her.

Yes, i'm a monster, sue me.
Of course it doesn't help that most parents nowadays are more concerned with being their child's best friend rather than their parent. So yeah, there are some kids out there who really need a smack upside the head.

Seeing how she assaulted an officer, tazing a ten year old is too much, but I'm sure the officer would have been justified to slam her into the bed, or something soft.

But I don't think the mother should've called the police and make them waste there time on some stupid case like this that is all the mother's fault. The officer should've just slapped the woman and go back on his merry way.

what kind of grown man cant wrestle down a 10 year old girl, if you feel bad for the girl, think about the pussiefied man who brings out a taser in fear of a 10 year old girl. that's pretty pathetic if ya ask me.

i had to use a taser to take down a 10 year old girl having a fit. seriously a 10 year old girl was to tuff for apparently grown man. how can such a pathetic piece of shit even get on the police force, i thought they had a minimal standard of athletics to get in. this guy about as tuff as a piece of paper in a shredder.

that or hes just some ass hole.
