The 90s had Animaniacs.

The 90's win.

/thread
And:
- The Powerpuff Girls
- Ed Edd n' Eddy, Johnny Bravo
- Courage the Cowardly Dog
- Eek the Cat (especially the affiliated Terrible Thunder Lizards)
- Metabots (whoever mentioned that before: thánk you, I wanted a metabot a gazillion times more than I wanted a Pokémon, robots > weird animals, shows I've always been a nerd)
- Dexter's Lab
- Biker Mice from Mars
- Bobby's World
- The Rugrats (an incredibly fascinating cartoon, the plots were so simple, but seen through the eyes of toddlers they became grand adventures, brilliant)
- Batman: The Animated Series
- X-Men: The Animated Series
- Earthworm Jim
- The Tick
- Darkwing Duck
- Samurai Pizza Cats (probably my favourite cartoon of all time)
- ReBoot
- Rocko's Modern Life
- The Rescue Rangers
- TaleSpin

Is that enough or do I have to go on to prove the dominance of the 90's?

This. The only exception to 90s cartoons being better is The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

Sadly made in 2001 but I'm going to count it anyway.

Is there even a contest here? I can't think of ANY 00's cartoons that have even been halfway decent. Mostly Batman and Pinky & The Brain were what I watched, but there were so many others I can't name right now.

As much as I like some of the newer cartoons, it can't top Animaniacs or the Marvel cartoons, though going even further back, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Thundarr the Barbarian, He-Man (and spinoff She-Ra), Transformers, Voltron... those were the days.
W00t. Saved me the trouble of having to write all that myself.

I'm going to watch Thundercats right now.

There were some good ones in this century, but when I think back, the old toons were the best. Now all the animated kid's shows are musicals *shudder*.

Got the old X-Men cartoon from the 90s going myself. Mr. Sinister arc if you're familiar with it.

It's a simple equation:

80s>90s=70s>60s>00s
Therefore, for the purpose of this topic, 90s cartoons are better. Eespecially the early 90s ones, like Animaniacs and Samurai Pizza Cats.

Or Scooby-doo! What's wrong with you people?!
Scooby-Doo ran from '69-73, kiddo. Way too early to be OT.

Considering the 80s cartoons beat all of your weaksauce 1990+ crap, I'd say this thread is relatively pointless.

00 had the following:
Kim Possible, Teen titans, Samurai Jack, Avatar, Danny Phantom, Kids Next Door, Ben 10, Ben 10 Alien Force, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Justice League, Static Shock, and many others.

the 90's Had the following:

Sonic SatAm, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Ducktales, Batman the Animated Series, Superman Animated, Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, Exo-Squad, the Pirates of Dark Water, and Gargoyles.

To me the choice is clear. The 80's.

Thundercats, He-man, Transformers, Silverhawks, Gi Joe.

Just kidding. Both.

90s rule.
Digimon > Crappy Beyblade
Ed, Edd n Eddy > Chowder
Metabots > Bakugan
Courage the Cowardly dog > Kung fu roosters
Duke Nukem > Serious Sam
Pie > Cake

Wait, I think i went a bit off topic there.

The point is, is that the cartoons of this era are becoming afflicted with the thought that if you make something shiny, stupid and funny to 3 year olds, then you will make something EVERYONE likes. The makers of Billy and Mandy probably didn't think that, and just made something so slapstick, silly, and relativly good using the invader Zim formula, as a smart person mixed with a dumb person. Also used in Catdog (I'm the only mention of Catdog?)

And finally, Digimon > Everything from 2000s.

Seriously, I would make a review on that first series because of what it dared to do. It dared to edge on being a show that people would have to be older to watch.

"Man, Myotismon's been taking Steroids!"
"Izzy, you're adopted...There was a car accident and your parents didn't survive. We recently lost a baby of our own"
"Matt and T.K's parents are divorced"

Not to mention it shows Matt's dad smoking, and the fact it mentions babies dying. Oh and the fact it kept getting Mimi to take off aall her clthes and plop into a bath or shower and ready for someone walking in on them. (In one case, a giant chicken as they escape wearing only a towel)

Is it just me, or (speaking on behalf of the 15-19 year olds in Britain) did we catch the end of the Golden Age of "Decent Kid's TV"?

These days, the stuff is trying to be too preachy, too "koolz", too "teenager/grown up" or just plain shove-crayons-in-my-ears retarded?

Doubtless, there was that stuff in small degrees in our time, but we got Authur, Fireman Sam, Postman Pat, Art Attack, Playbus and such.

These days, they've got crappy american imports (no offense to Americans, we get the crappy stuff), stuff trying really hard to be a crappy american import or annoying preachy shows, where each one has the same episodes (the one where they learn to "get along", the one where they learn to "work together", the one where they learn to "be modest and humble". Sheesh, it's painful

and the stuff that has adult canned laughter. Seriously? WTF

The DC Animated Universe ran through both decades, and therefore both are awesomeness.
Yeah, but it just means that it's good in both.

However, I can't stand over 90% of the today's cartoons. The rest are gems like Samurai Jack or What's With Andy (pretty funny, but unknown outside of Poland and probably Canada).

Also like lwm3398 said, most of the good stuff from 00's was till 2005.

Well, there's gonna be an inherent bias in this poll - since the majority of people on this website were in their prime cartoon-watching days in the 90s, of course the 90s is gonna get all the votes. I admit I voted for that option too, but I honestly don't know where I'd be today without South Park (certaintly not as entertained, at the very least). So yeah, the 90s had all those great cartoons that I loved when I was a kid, and the 00s has South Park, and to a lesser extent Family Guy. Honestly, for me, it's closer than I would have thought.

90's obviously.

Sailor Moon > Shuriken Academy (or whatever it's called)

Metabots!:D

Old Pokemon > New Pokemon

Digimon! :D

Shin Chan! (though it wasn't technically a full cartoon...)

I realize now that most (all) of them are anime, but whatever.

Oh wait! Tom and Jerry! ^^
I miss being a kid and watcging these shows ;_;

although most of my life was growing up in the 00s, i still would look for 90s cartoons, i only got to see soley 90s toons for 3 years, and that has been way better than any cartoons on now (minus Avatar) the 90s were the best, i still watch them every once and a while.

Japanese cartoons have always been better.

But assuming we're talking about American kid's cartoons, they've definitely gone downhill. We think kids will enjoy anything, so we put out whatever slop we have to try and cash in on the younger audience. Consider that with the fact that our country can't seem to grasp the potential of animated film, and you have one medium that has gone faaaar downhill.

My favorite show ever is Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is recent, but that's one of the very few good cartoons of the new millennium. So I look back fondly to Recess, Magic School Bus, Doug, Ducktales, Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, and more when I say that older cartoons are definitely better.

I'd say the 90's. The early 00's had some pretty awesome stuff, like Justice League and Avatar, but most of the stuff that's come out lately is like "WTF?"
