Greatest human ever? That's a long stretch considering how long humans have actually been around versus recorded history.

Abe Lincoln may have been a great man, but I doubt that he is the "greatest human who has ever lived." For all we know, Caveman # 23 (also known as Ugg Ugg the Great) could be the greatest human who ever lived.

Besides, that title belongs to a group of people. I believe you may know them as "Monty Python".
i know ugg ugg the great conquered all the known caves in the world!

in the battle of egg do's lawn he went in with just him and a really buff guy and beat egg do his wife and all their children!

No I personally do not think he is since it has been proven that Jesus is a real person that did exist about 2000 years ago.
he was a real person but no more important really than any person that can speak a few wise words.
he was not a messiah. that was decided around 400 years after he died.
Don't most historians say that most of the records of Jesus are no more than 60 years old. Did you research this or guess that thats how it happened? Just curious :p

I think he is overrated and we only get the good facts about him.

Dude. Do you really want to turn this into a religious debate? I mean really...

OT, I'd say Nikola Tesla. The things he was able to accomplish with so little were astounding.

Or Leonardo Da Vinci though he was kind of a dick if the history books I've read are to be believed.

I think that if we started resurrecting American presidents it would be a tossup between Abraham Lincoln's beard, George Washington's broadsword, and Theodore Roosevelt's giant club for most badass presidential resurrection. But that is just what this thread brought to my mind.

Norman. Borlaug.

Oh that's nice, all those accomplishments everyone else has. Very impressive. Oh, whats that? You improved the lives of millions? Million? like, with an M? Well I guess that's impressive. Maybe you can come back here when you have saved the lives of Billions. With a B.

Except for he might have been racist.
in his defense alot of people were racist back then and he needed to be to get the votes

and hell no he led a war that caused a million or so decent Americans to die. in the name of human rights.

It was 600,000 Americans actually and it wasn't in the name of human rights. The war was to preserve the Union and nothing more not to free the blacks or any of that just to preserve the Union. Lincoln never actually thought a black man was equal to a white man but he certainly didn't believe they should have been enslaved. He even tried to set up a community for the freed slaves in Cuba or some island nation after the war.

As far as greatest human ever I have to say no, greatest American however you may have a point. His assassination however has skewed everyone's opinion of him they chose to see him in a positive light even though in the times before his death he was probably the least popular president. The amount of negativity against him it was really amazing that he won re-election.

No, but he wasn't the worst either. History books have always shown him in a way too good light, and the fact that he was assassinated only cemented him as a demigod. His motives were his own, and he never really cared about slavery. He was a politician like any other, albeit with truly epic facial hair.

Best person in history? How about Edward Jenner, without whom you may not be alive today, or Pasteur, Euler, Gauss, Einstein, Euclid, Plato, Voltaire, the Wright brothers, Curie, Freud, Nietzsche, Machiavelli, Hesse, Haber and Bosch (named the process), etc?

"greatest" is a worthless title when applied to "man." Greatest what? Greatest American President, perhaps (though I'm not 100% sold on that one). But how the hell do you compare objectively leading the U.S. through a civil war to inventing Calculus and setting the foundation for all modern mathematics? How about formulating the fundamental framework for Electromagnetics, which is required to even have this discussion? It's impossible. There is no way to accurately measure the achievements of one man against another unless it's in the same category; Bill Gates is a better businessman than, say, me, for example. That is an objective comparison with ample proof. However, is Lincoln a better person than Bill Gates? The question is worthless unless you define, in absurd detail, the traits that make a "good" person and analyze extensively and objectively the traits in each person. Then compare your "Greatest" with every other one of the 36 billion people that have lived and died on this world, to see if he really is.
