It's not bad. The graphics, music and voice acting are good. Framerate, game mechanics, loading and all the content that isn't the main story are bad. Everything else is sort of acceptable. 6/10

I didn't like it, I just couldn't get into it. I felt like there was far too much faffing about. I don't really think I'm the RPG type...

I hated Mass Effect after about 2 hours. The controls were horrible and it was so dialog heavy at times I forgot it was a game and thought I was watching a movie. When you controller goes into sleep mode during a shooter, you know they did something wrong. It didn't even feel like a shooter. The controls and cover action was horrible and the weapon mods were too complex to figure out. And like Deadrising, I can't believe there making a sequel to this bullshit.
There's a Dead Rising sequel on the way?
Sweet!!

Dear lord.

Millions of people play videogames on a daily basis. You are most certainly not the ONLY person who doesn't enjoy it. In fact, go watch Zero Punctuation: Mass Effect right now. There's one for you.

Personally, I love it, but that's just me.

The writing is good.
The weapons are boring and generic.
The RPG elements were shallow.
The writing was really goddamn good.
It was really long so if you did like it then there was a lot of it for you.
exactly i think that kinda sums it up

i can only add that... yep that sums it up, great game on my top 5 list.

HI5!
I forgot to mention, the writing is really damn good. The main flaw in the game however is that you don't get to play as a Krogan.

I like everything ever made by Bioware. You're definitely not the only one though, most of my friends can't stand it.

For some reason everyone seems to think Mass Effect is fantastic.
I on the other hand find it too repetitive and lacking any sort of actual action.
At the moment i am lost in C-Sec trying to find some guy, however the game gives no hint as how to find said guy and after about two days of searching i grew bored and sold the game.
So i ask you, what do you see in this game and is there anyone out there that agrees with me?
Wow, if you couldn't even get off of the fucking Citadel for the first time than... wow...

I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again... If video games have taught you anything it's persistence... Since that doesn't fit in this situation I'm going to say - be patient... But who am I to tell you anything... watch everyone else have fun. I don't give a shit...
Fine! I will, but it doesn't change my oppinion. People getting angry for me not liking the game is stupid! Why am I not allowed to dislike it? Will the Mass Effect monster come and eat you in your sleep if you say one thing bad about it?
Please just stop bieng an idiot and get a life!

No you are not and stop trying to think hating a loved game is special.
This. It's awfully tiresome to see "Everyone seems to love/hate this game except me!" type threads.

It's lazy, and encourages lazy responses... like mine, right here.

It's not a shooter... it's an RPG...yeah XD
When they make a RPG a lot of people can mistake for a shooter, you know they've done a bad job.

Edit: Why are people getting so defensive and angry? It's an oppinion, get used to it! Me disliking this game is my oppinion so just accept it!

I thoroughly enjoyed Mass Effect and think it's clearly one of the BEST games on the next gen platform, alongside Fallout 3 and Bioshock.

I'm saddened you didn't enjoy it, but then not every game is tailor made to suit everyone.

I got it free when buying my xbox, played it once and lost track of what i had to do in the 2 hours i played. a year later i decided i should attempt to complete the games i have so ive started to play it again. got the hang of it but it feels a bit slow paced with the RPG side of it when most FPS are a bit fast passed so im a bit undesided. but it doe's offer an intresting game play.

The games strength is its story, the gameplay could do with some work (I didn't think it was bad, just lackluster) but the story is far better than most others, as are the people and how you interact with them.

And them disliking your opinion is their opinion, so just accept it. If you don't like people disagreeing with you then don't make threads that attack popular things.

Eh?
You got rid of the game when you couldn't finish a side quest?
Mass Effect is very slow at the start, you sound like the kind of person who dislikes slow games.

Funny thing is, just today i got the game out from about 6 months of hiding in my cupboard and played it.

I started a new game from scratch so that i could build my universe for the next game (my original character was deleted due to a Hard drive fault, he was up to his third play too) I originally got pissed at the game after making a new character from this fault because of some of the things that happen, like the auto saves being very unreliable and the vehicle bits a pain. Other than that, i enjoyed it. I liked the micro-management because it adds a layer of depth to the combat that most other games overlook.

Of course, once i get my sniper with a level 7-8(?) explosive shells with damage boosters i will be very happy. It kills the purpose of going for the head, but really shows where the management can shine.

Actually i haven't played it, but I will not attempt to.
Let me explain before cutting my head off...
I played both KotOR games and found them pretty entertaining BUT in second one I was skipping quests or forcing through them by killing NPC - becouse I was sick of dialogs, TOO MUCH FU***ING DIALOGS!!! gaming is no longer based on text boxes, but BioWare seems to be unconcious of that. Yahtzee said (as well as my friend who also played the game) that there is too much talking, more in both KotOR games? if so, I will not even borrow it just to check it.
I find it ironic that you think an RPG has too much dialogue. I suppose you would play an RTS and complain about all the strategy? Or an FPS and complain about all the shooting?

I'm sorry, m'lord, that we all can't have the character interaction of an FPS. If you'd have paid attention to anything about the game before it came out, you might've realized that character interaction was kind of a big deal. It's an RPG, not Halo.
I guess lots of people complained about there is too much dialogue in ME. Strangely enough, that is what draws me to the game. Just like in Fallout 3, I rather spend my time in the game interacting with other NPCs rather than shooting them.

I stopped after a while.. I just wasn't getting into it. Despite the trollish flamers who seem to delight in pointing out absolutes, its a fair question.

Some of the upgrade stuff was a little too complicated and I never really got immersed in the story.
