I just saw that IHC or whatever comercial about 2012. And being the come rational person I am I think I might puke. Am I worrying to much about 2012? Do you think it'll happen?
Considering that commercial is for a Movie, I think your fine. Not to say 2012 may not end the world. Hell the world could end tomorrow, it's all about chances. Who is to say tomorrow a giant asteroid won't smash into the Earth. Who is to say aliens won't mess our shit up. We can't be certain, but to say any given day is for certain the end of the world is bullshit.

Here you go!
"When that happens, some say the Earth's poles will shift and every horrible natural disaster imaginable will come together to form a Megazord of planet crushing assbeat"

That, is the best saying, ever.

Im hoping it's one of those cultural revolution things if it's anything. Ok this thread is now the Sillyest Prophecies youve ever heard thread.

Look up Assasins Creed ending prohpecy on youtube. It's fucking insane but it ends with Bill Hicks speach. I love youtube.

I honestly don't think anything will happen, and even if the world was going to end, don't pull the move a certain girl did last year in fear of the LHC imploding by drinking pesticide..
I mean, if someone is that certain the world will end, why commit suicide when it might not happen? If I was going to die anyway, I'd rather pull up a chair and catch what I could of the fireworks of complete annihilation!

I heard the Mayans could predict their crop outcomes, and somewhere else I vaguely remember reading they foresaw their own demise at the hands of a foreign people - the Spaniards. Impressive if true, but seeing how the Maya calendar is a circle, and effectively -restarts- on December 21st, 2012, their predictions could mean anything, I remember it stating something about the change of a world order. Maybe it refers to a Presidential Election in the states? Do all prophecies have to be about doom and destruction? I'd say no, but people seem to cling to those an awful lot.

In case this left you worrying even more, let me put this on a more humourous note: The Mayans didn't get to predict any more because the Spaniards decided to cancel their Prediction Newsletter...

Whoo! Another Cracked fan. That's kind of a rarity on this site for some reason.
Cracked rules! :D But I must the say, I prefer the escapist.
It's actually a neck and neck battle for my third favourite website between Cracked and The Escapist. But I love both of these sites a great deal.

Go on the internet and look up Penn & Teller Bullshit! You should find an episode on the Mayan doomsday prophecy. They will tell you all the reasons why it's bullshit.

Not to be a wally, but the OP actually didn't ask about the end of the world. He asked, "Do you think 2012 will happen?"

I believe that yes it will happen. I predict that 2012 will be after 2011 but before 2013.

The Horned Rat has spoken.

IMDB and XKCD. IMDB keeps me from going insane and helps keep track of the movies I've seen (about 1450 in the last 4 years, I have no life) and XKCD adds simple yet hilarious comics 3 times a week. Then in order: Escapist, Cracked, Facebook, VGcats. Yours?

Remember June 6, 2006? Everyone when nuts, whereas I sat inside with a computer playing flash browser because I knew NOTHING would happen. I believe the same applies to Mayan Doomsday.

Off topic: A good friend of mine turns 21 on December 21, 2012.

Yes. Yes, you are worrying too much.
Remember the millenium? Yeah, lots of people said we'd all die back then, too. But you know what? Nothing happened. Because it's (and has been) an arbitrary date that matters not in the grand scheme of things. Not at all.

Those dipshits couldn't even predict the end of their civilistaion, let alone the end of the world.

Here's a bit of wisdom, anything claiming to "predict the future" is absolutely bullshit. Anyone claiming to be able to predict the future needs to be shot. The future cannot be seen.

All these prophecies and predictions hide behind so much symbolic language that they can be interpreted to mean just about anything.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence to suggest the world will end in 2012. Don't worry.
Hilarious! "scientific evidence"... Thanks for the laugh, man...

Aaaanyways:
See as measuring time is a concept invented by humans, one year is no different from the next, seen from a cosmos point-of-view. If God, or whatever has power to destroy the world, is intent to end us all, I don't think date matters at all.
