Let's make a distinction. A "girl gamer" is a stereotype let's say.. about 16, 17, eager for attention. Generally a pejorative term. People who game and happen to be female we just call gamers. We might not have the uh, dangly bits, but that doesn't mean we're a deviation from the norm which deserve to be pigeon holed with a phrase like "girl gamer". Personally I think it's a little condescending. I'm a gamer, I'm not a girl, I'm a woman. Gamer still comes first.

There are bloody irritating gamers of all genders, ages, demographics, yadda yadda. It's an individual thing.
I would have to agree with this as well. Why do girls have to be called "girl gamers", we don't call guys "boy gamers" why call us any different.

its game dependent. for instance, everyone you meet on Live is almost certainly going to be a douche.

i have yet to meet a girl in WoW who is a bastard or attention whore. and the only annoying one didnt actually know how to make money. i fixed that and made her laugh her ass off.

I don't often meet girl gamers, but most of the ones I have met are resonable, so I don't treat them any differently. There just people after all. If I met a humpback whale on a game then I'd be surprised.
I would send friend requests to a whale

If a girl gamer is online only because her boyfriend plays and she is obnoxious about that fact, I'd rather she just get offline and let her man play.

If she's badass and well worth my time as an opponent? I don't care what gender you are, if you got game and you can bring it, I'm in.

Honestly I wish I could meet a girl gamer, haven't met one in real life in years. Not a 'core' gamer, at least. Used to see them a lot at LAN parties, out classing me with their Starcraft skills and turning me on with their knowledge of TCP/IP configuration. I was much younger then... The last time I talked to a girl who liked playing games as much as I do she was the admin of the TF2 server I frequented. I made a point of not flirting with her because every newcomer, every single one, would remark on how 'hawt' she sounded on the mic. It was true, but not the kind of impression I wanted to make on the community.

My social desires aside, I think the much bigger problem is girls who don't like gaming because they perceive it as violent. I tried to show TF2 to my last girlfriend and she kept asking "why?" "Why does blue team have to kill the red team?" Well, honey, you like watching the Crew play soccer, do you ever wonder why they have to kick the ball in the goal or why they have to beat the other team? "No but they aren't blowing each other up. Why do you have to blow people up?" We aren't, it's just a picture on a screen. When I'm playing I'm always conscious of the fact that it's textured models juxtaposed against a geometrically rendered landscape. "Why are you such a nerd?" Then I turned it off and I showed her Peggle, then she started claiming she was a gamer. It was actually kinda cute.

Oh geez. You have your bastards no matter what gender you are. If you asked ladies if they thought all guy gamers were annoying because of the stupid fuckspurts that made a huge deal about us being female--we would be able to say, "No, because not all guys are immature morons."

I would hope that guys would be able to say the same in return. Yes, some female gamers are morons; just like some male gamers are morons. And then the rest of us are fine. And the rest of you guys are fine.

well considering that I never really know the gender of the people I play against, since not everyone uses a mic or not all games have one. and even then, I just never really pay attention because its not important to the game itself.

If I am playing with a girl... doesnt matter to me unless they start being annoying or shouting in the mic or anything else. The same goes for any guy that I play with.
Games are just not worth taking so seriously.

And the girls that I know play games and that I play with in the same room.. most of them are better than me, since they play more than I do more frequently.

The guys that are annoying are the ones that start hitting on them... thats when you realize which guys are going to be a hassle to play with.

I'm a girl and I've never ever been treated any differently online. Mostly I play with friends though. I have met girls online and IRL that are like yeah I'm a girl gamer attention please. That really pisses me off too. You're a ruining our fucking gender retard.

I work in a games store though and mostly the customers would prefer to speak to one of the male staff because they think I don't even play games. I get the "so... do you actually play any of these?" alot. That being said I prefer not to serve customers so I don't mind at all.

Treating a girl gamer any different is sexist regardless of wether it is positive or negative descrimination.
Please let's keep feminist dogma out of this. :p

There's a simpler explanation: most gamers are REALLY REALLY looking for a girlfriend but usually lack the social skills to obtain one. What happens from then on (the retarded comments and lewd - not to mention counterproductive - remarks) is basically a matter of the ancient formula of Anonymity + Audience + Internets = Fucking Retard.

That said: it sucks that girls have to go through that just for being girls. :S It's a bit of a vicious cycle isn't it? To coin a classical /b/ transaction: "There are no girls on the internet :(" "Yes there are, I'm one" "TITS OR GTFO" *leaves* "There are no..." and so forth.

Anyway, I voted no. It's the emotionally stunted fucknuts that are the nuisance.

We're not so rare anymore, so I hope the gaming world will treat us fairly.

Or I'll kick your ass. While talking dirty to you over my headset. Kidding!

Meeting strangers in the gaming world is really hit or miss, unfortunately. It's really hard to like someone 100% when all you have in common is a game. And depending on how big it is, you'll meet asshats, children, people WITH children, children that are asshats and people with children that are asshats.

I basically go by the golden rule of: Treat others how you wish to be treated. So if I'm silent and ignoring you, this implies I would like to be left alone. On the other hand, if I'm smiling and talkative, you are invited to smile and talk back.

It's up to you not to embarrass yourself with your attitude. In any situation. It's the same for anyone.

Depends on how they act just like any other gamer.

Just because they're a girl doesn't excuse them from being annoying nor does it make them annoying.

I makes no difference to me unless they're behavior pisses me off. One of my best friends is a girl gamer to some degree. It's been a while but we used to play all different games, FPS, RTS, and she's pretty good, she can hold her own and usually beats me, and I don't let her win either because that would be insulting.

Only if they end up screeching down the mic...like so many bloody 14 year old boys on EVERY SINGLE GAME...its not a sex thing, its mostly an age thing

To be honest, I don't think I have met one girl on LIVE who was a nuisance, I think they probably find games more enjoyable than most guys because they don't scream down the mic when they get "unfairly" killed, or blame lag

Personally if you find someone who is a nuisance, regardless of sex, mute them... works for...........me LAG!

Honestly the biggest problem is the fact that most gamers haven't interacted with an actual girl who isn't their mom in the span of weeks.
