I typically have a rule of thumb where I will not buy a game if it projects to cost more than $1 per hour of gameplay. I purchased Borderlands for $59.99 ($69 something after tax) and I did get about 70-80 hours out of it, so it was worth it.

Dragon Age I paid a full $90 for after tax for the limited edition, but I passed 90 hours of game time about 12 hours ago and I'm still going. I got L4D2 on sale for $40, and I haven't hit that amount of playtime yet, but I'm getting close.

If a game is only going to give me 10-20 hours of playtime I'll most likely rent it, like I did with Halo 3: ODST... rented it for a week, which cost $7.99, took me 9 hours to beat the campaign on hard while exploring, and took it back. Still meets my $1 per hour requirement.

£35 for Dragon Age, but that was really pushing it. My usual "reasonable for a new game price" is £25. Any more, and it have better be damn fantastic.

I think all games should be priced at $30. These high price tags aren't enough of an incentive to make high-quality games - developers can still get by releasing trash that only sells relatively few copies.
Ur a dope. If they reduced the price it would only encourage game makers to rehash popular titles nd ideas as they no they will sell well and make them money. Nobody would try new/different ideas because it would be risky finacially as these games would not sell the volume required to cover the costs of development.

Another person called HD a fad!! Whether its online steaming, movies, tv or gaming Hd offers far superior picture quality. If you start to play games in HD you will certainly notice the improved picture quality nd a lot of they only run at 720p. The difference between the two formats is well worth the price in my opinion. Plus as tvs get bigger and more afforable, HD will be essential to maintain the high quality image on larger screen sizes.

I'm used to the $60 price here in America, but normally try to trade in stuff that I won't or don't play.Sometimes I'll have a clever moment, and I"ll buy a used game from Gamestop, Finish it as best I can in 7 days then return it and get my money back.

I don't mind the current pricing on games. If you buy good titles they are well worth the investment. The problem comes when the terrible games cost 60 dollars-if you buy those you're a fool.

You know at 30 dollars it would probably get more people to buy a game and make more money that if it was 60 because many people (me) are not comfortable paying 60 dollars and just wait to get a used copy, if we could buy the games new then the company profits not just the store you bought the used game from. though this could also make less money if the sales are lousy...

i dont think so... their usually about 60 euro, which isnt too bad.. its also good considering i payed 70 euro for Jak and Daxter and the Precursor Legacy when it was first released.. worth every penny though =D
so i'd say they may of gotten cheaper

New games are really overpriced and I have to say that there are very few games that are worth the launch price.
That's one of the reasons why I rent.

Used games can be a bargain as long as you're not shopping at gamestop.

Also, I don't know if you have this in Canada but in the US there's often special deals around launch. I got Batman Infamous and Prototype at Toys r us when they launched because they offered $20-$30 gift cards with the purchase.

I always buy later for two reasons: Fix-it-patch and lower price. Why? Because it's more games for less money. Money that I can use for other things ^^

i hate paying 120 for a game when Microsoft or whatever is selling it for 60. it really pisses me off. The most ill normally pay for a game is about 80. so i wait for a bit.the latest game i bought was.....Darksiders. which i got for 70.

Australia has it the worst.
Fixed. Yeah it sucks over here. We pay 90-120 dollars for new games. And considering our currency is at the moment 95 US cents per dollar and on the rise it's completely unjustified. But, as a sarcastic man once said "I like to call it the having-better-beaches tax."

+1 internets for the reference.
I keep thinking it's from Fight Club for some reason.
Try again. Hint: he wears a trilby.
Oh, it was Yahtzee. Though my second guess would have been an Aussie MP. :)
But having read your post again, 90-120 US Dollars is a huge amount of money for a new game. Here in Blighty, we'd expect to pay about $65 tops for a brand spanking new game.
It absolutely cripples the amount of games I play.
I can imagine that. Especially with the nickel and dime treatment Gamestop is infamous for dishing out to it's patrons when they want to trade in games to help pay those crazy prices.
The only current gen game I have bought at full price was MW2 and that was with a discount because I knew the guy working.

I'm especially annoyed at games like MW2 being 60$ on the PC just because they can. It's not like other gaming consoles because we can't really resell a PC game.

I live in Australia, pretty much used to being figuratively screwed on prices.
Games like MW2 and Batman AA are STILL being sold for Like $100 US in retail stores.
I hope this whole 'retail' fad dies out so we can just get to every game being sold digital distribution only. Australia's so F'ing adamant on selling retail, some companies hike the steam prices for Australia so they don't upset the retailers. Here's a fucking idea, don't, let all steam prices for your games be as low as any other country, if retailers don't stock over priced PC games, fuck em, as soon as every console starts using digital distribution retail stores will die out and I'll be happy.

I'm planning on buying 4 games in the next 4 months, Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, Bioshock 2 and Aliens Vs Predator. The last two had their steam prices raised. SO i have to pay $245 ON STEAM for those 4 games,Bioshock 2 costs 80US$, and remember this is just the original game, no limited edition, and no shipping fees. I'll probably pay anyway though, my dad is finally paying years of child support in a huge bunch.

Sorry mate, making a thread entirely for Americans sometimes messes things up.

OT: Wait for it.
