*Sigh* you yanks sure do have it hard, only having to pay around $60 for a new game, down here we have to part with $120 ($85 USD).

I picked five finger discount. Not because that's what I'd do but I just haven't heard that term in like 12 years.

I probably pay more than $50 for maybe one game a year. I usually wait till I can get it used or it's price goes down.

I think the only game I've ever paid full price for on the 360 was WET and look what happened! No, I wait until they're in the bargain bin and then I go nuts and buy like 7 at a time.

Australia's can pay up to 120 bucks for a new store bought release. There's probably a reason for it, but that doesn't change the fact that it sucks ass.
The only time I've ever seen a game for $120 was MW2. Most are like $100-$110 which is STILL insanely over-priced which pisses me off, but it's kind of good. It forces me to replay games that I've already got and go through getting bits and pieces I missed the first time around. If games were cheaper, I'd probably be more into buying them.
Then again, sometimes the competitive pricing can force companies to lower prices at launch.
Like i think MW2 was $120 cause the retailers knew that some suckers were going to buy it regardless.
Some games like Bayonetta and Dark Void look to be down to $80 at some places near here. (Still over priced, but eh. I can live)
Really, its the reason why i have resorted to just hiring most games that i play now.
The only exceptions are going to be Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft 2.

Where's the option to wait for it to drop to $20-$30? I like to wait till the games have about 2 espansion packs bundles with the GOTY addition, then I wait for the price to drop drastically. In other words, I wait till the game's been out for about a year while I catch up on last year's pile.

Because I'm usually in the middle of something even when new games come out, I usually wait a few weeks to buy my copy. This allows me to occasionally obtain a used copy that someone finished and returned. It's usually only a few bucks cheaper, but I love getting new games for $50 US.

This will likely not be the case with Bioshock 2, but since I'm playing through Mass Effect for the first time right now, I'll likely wait a while to get Mass Effect 2.

In addition to that, my best friend buys all sorts of games immediately and then never gets around to him. Half the games in my gamer score were borrowed from her while she was waiting to get around to them.

I always try to wait for games to come down in price. To around £20. But often pick up last years games for around £10.

Even here in Singapore, which is in South-East Asia and therefore basically the posh end of the world's biggest pound shop (or dime store I think the Yankee term is) MW2 was $90 (around 50USD)in January. Prices are growing exponentially alongside the market.

I used to think £20 was an immense amount for a game in the Ps1 era. So new games are generally overpriced in my opinion.

I don't like to pay as much for games as I do, but it's still not over priced. If you look back in gaming history and prices you'll see pretty low prices when games originally launched, though they're high now since they're rare. What is the main difference from then and now?
If you read the credits you'll see a lot more names on the newer games than a lot of the old games, some of the old games have a list that's so short there's no need to scroll down to see all the names. Now there are so many names they have to make an ending theme song to play so we wont turn off the console... on some old games that's what we had to do anyway...
It's a lot more expensive to make games these days, but technology still makes them cheaper than I can remember Nintendo 64 games. With the 25% purchase tax over here I had to pay almost 140 USD for all the games I had, except for a few that I got cheaper, but none less than 80. Now I pay a lot less because they use digital discs of some sort. Now I pay less than half of what I used to do in average. I do import some games and avoid some taxes, but still with the taxes I would be saving at least 50% compared to Nintendo 64 and the time of games on a cartridge.

I got Bayonetta for 64.39 here in the US, but its still bullshit.

Why can't games be like they were for PS2?

It was 50 dollars per game and I thought that was reasonable.

30-50 is what I'd pay for a brand new game. Not almost 70 dollars.

You know in a way, bigger prices are kinda hurting the industry. You know those people who just buy games on impulse without taking the time the research them? Well, even those kinda people know that 60 bucks is a lot of fucking money, so they are either going to buy cheaper games or stop buying in general. I can see this biting some game companies in the ass.

I'm happy to pay £40 (that's $68.14 of your Canada-monies) for a new game, and have just forked out £60 ($102.20)for FFXIII Limited Edition, so it depends.

£40 for new releases to almost any platform over the pond.

So 60 of your American dollars equates to around £35? Your getting a bargain.
