It's not newcomer hatred that's the problem, but regular worship that it. I shall elaborate.
A newcomer creates an account, most likely to comment on Yahtzee video. After spending some time on the video comment threads, he begins to investigate his new escapist home, and wanders into the new land of off topic, game, and user reviews. He is confused, but intrigued by his new found discovery. He lurks about for a while, until he stumbles upon a thread he feels the need to comment on. Unless his/her posts are most spectacular, he/she will be overlooked, and never really get much interaction on the site. So he goes into the " regular worship".
The way to get to the top is on the coat tails of the elite forum goers, or regulars. So this newcomer will reply/quote regulars as to cling himself onto the popularity of that person. It's like those fish that cling to sharks, picking up the debris from it's snacky time. Most of the time, this doesn't work, and the newcomer fades to into the void and is never heard from again. But if the regular recognizes this newcomer, the newcomer will do whatever it can to continue the conversation with the reg, as to accumulate posts, to no longer look like a newcomer. Lot's of times, a low post counter will say something rather witty/hilarious and will be overlooked due to low post count. But if a reg says something slightly funny, many newcomers will immediately latch onto this new found opportunity, and the cycle begins.
Tl/DR: newcomers latch onto regs to gain popularity, without this, they generally fade away.
