As if lying naked on a slab and having Morticians go over your body was an invasion of privacy enough, right? The Cheezy One said:i keep meaning to get around to it. i think giving blood and organs is important to keeping others alive, but that doesnt necesarily mean i think people should, its personal preference really. its a very touchy subject from what i understand, people think it violates their privacy to have organs given to others after they kick the bucket
While I understand the preservation of a corpse for the sake of friends and family so as not to upset them, I find it a little disturbing that the dead are given such rights that prevent their organs and bodily fluids automatically becoming forfeit when they die. When you think about it, would there not be less need for voluntary or still living donors if every deceased person was treated that way? Drained on any useful blood, harvested of viable organs before such become useless.
I know it's a rather morbid notion, but I'm not saying doctors should simply hack the body to bits, keep things respectful like, but still make as much use of the body before preparing it for burial or cremation.
I agree with this completely, the system should be automatically opt-in, with -you- having to take the necessary steps to opt out should you so choose.Bobzer77 said:I haven't donated blood because I'm lazy and I'm not an organ donor because I'm.... lazy?
Why can't they just have it as standard to take you're organs when you die and if you want to be a selfish bastard and keep they you have to get off you're arse and fill out the paperwork.
