I can swim well enough to keep myself from drowning. I don't enjoy it, so I never bothered to learn how to do anything above that.

I could swim from a very very early age, suffice to say I have no idea when. But I probably learned how to walk first... I think :S.

i was going to swim today but it started raining....it still is.

age 4 btw
I read that as your current age.

I lol'd.

OT: I was under the impression, until age 10, that every one could swim and it was like walking, you just pick it up.

I'm Australian and it's actually manditory for any highschool that offers HPE (Health and Physical Education) to teach swimming safety. I think this also applies to primary schools but I'm not certain. If you don't believe it look it up in the Curriculum Council's 'Curriculum Framework' for the various states. (No one will do this but I'm right)

My sister could swim before she could walk, literally. She actually took her first steps to get to a pool. She grew up in Darwin, for those of you who know of the place this makes perfect sence, for those who don't. Tomorrow's forcast is 32deg.C (89.6 F) with 65% humidity. It's winter in two days.... Swimming is manditory.

I can swim and I'm average at it. I'm not particularly fast, but I can swim alright.

Barely.

I just about learned to propel myself in school swimming lessons, but have hardly been swimming at all since, so I may have forgotten how to. If it is possible to forget how to swim...

'Spose I'd better get practicing if I wana join the Army after Uni :(

I can swim if need be, I just don't like to. Near drowning experience as a kid left a permanent mark apparently.

Nope. Never learned how. People tried to drown me when I tried to learn as a kid... twice (one of them was even my own dad). No thank you. Me and large things of water like to keep our space.

Yes. I learned to swim when I was about 4. I swam my first full kilometer without stopping or resting when I was 7.

I've never been a specially fast swimmer though.

I took swimming lessons at the YMCA when I was a kid. There were seven levels overall (Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow, Fish, Flying Fish, Shark and Porpoise). I passed everything up to and including Flying Fish.
This seems like a foolish ranking system for children, why would you want to stop being a shark to become a porpoise?

Sure can. Being able to swim is kinda a prerequisite to survival in Australia...
This basically. We also require a certificate of wildlife fighting.
We also need to be able to play various aboriginal musical instruments (Didgeridoo included) and have a Kangaroo riding licence. We also chuck shrimp on the 'Barbie'.

I think I'm a pretty good swimmer. I love swimming and I think I can last longer in the water than most people.

I swam a lot as a child - it was pretty much the only exercise I was willing to do (or could do, thanks to my asthma...)

Now I'm a certified lifeguard!

Absolutely. I like to think I'm pretty good at it, too. Even swam competitively, club and high school varsity (firmly middle-of-the-pack in speed and skill, but still).

I wasn't an adept swimmer. Went to a school when 12. Now, I have gotten quite good at it. Being Greek, one has to be a good swimmer.
