If I could insert something into this arguement, human cultures separated by natural formations developed just as differently as our culture would from an alien culture, (The cultures in, for sake of example, Asia and Africa, developed very differently, with different views on life, spirituality, sexuality, etc.) and yet when the cultures were brought together, we were able to find a standard medium for all humans.
So, who's to say that once our culture interacted with an alien culture, a standard medium would not be found?
For that matter, who's to say that a native of another planet wouldn't still be fundamentally human. Sure, the planetary differences would create some anatomical anomalies, but their physiology could be close enough to ours to declare them "human" (Kind of like how you can have a great white shark and a hammerhead shark. Both very different, and yet similar enough to both be considered sharks.)
And on an unrelated topic, why does everyone always assume the aliens will find us? Who's to say we won't end up finding a way to their planet first. And we'll be the aliens.
