I think that makes a point. People won't admit it but graphics do matter. It's just that you can't judge old games by todays standards. If you look back at most of the 'classics' mentioned by those in this thread they all had decent to good graphics at the time they came out.

Pffft, if a game came out and had those graphics I'd pick it up regardless.
If you can barely tell what you're doing, no matter how advanced the design/game/technology is, those are bad graphics and bad design.
Simplified graphics make no difference to me, but messy graphics matter.
So, yes you do need 'good' graphics. How advanced those graphics need to be varies from person to person.
I'm more concerned with how fun the game is, even if 'bad' graphics to play a small part with that factor.
