No I don't think i've ever done that... Weird.

Though I can thank European release dates (for once) that ME3 is out on a Friday, not a Tuesday like in America.

I only ever did this once, for GTA:IV. I took like 3 days off, not paid or sick, my job is actually flexible enough that we can tell them when we can't work. Most people give a reason, I don't. When I'm asked why, I say "It's personal" and leave it at that.

Frankly having vacation days listed in the same way is a tad silly as those are days you can take off for any reason. That should at least be represented in the poll.
While there are exceptions to this, a vast majority of American workers don't get "vacation days"

If you asked for a vacation in damn near any place of work, you'd be looking for a job come Monday. So it's considered common practice to take a sick day or two when you need to have a long weekend for whatever reason.
Really? That's stupid.
In England I'm certain every job has a certain amount of paid days holiday you take every year.
Don't know what world he's living in. I work at a grocery store and get at least a week paid vacation... Which I take every year around the summer, and no I don't go anywhere. I just hang around the house and enjoy being paid to do nothing.

I did take a trip to Disney one year though. That was pretty nice, being paid to go to Blizzard Beach....

No.

I'm not a wealthy person to begin with...so having the game cost me $80 more because I missed a days work is simply outside of my budget. Even if I could afford it, it's simply abusive of work privileges and I'd likely feel guilty about it.

That said, I frequently schedule PTO's and vacations around the release of major games.

My boss only cares about results. As long as he things I'm doing a decent job doesn't care if I take the day off to play some game. Last time was with Halo: Reach, next time will be Diablo III :)

I don't think a major title has ever come out at a time when it would get in the way of work or school. Plus, I rarely do release day. I usually wait around until birthday/christmas and just ask for video games then and usually at 10 to 20 dollars cheaper.

I've never pulled a sickie, but I have used holiday/lieu time.

For example the last place I worked you could build up lieu time, I finished work at 4pm but if I hung about till 4.30pm I could get a lift home from a lass who worked in a different department. I worked an extra 2 and a half hours a weeks which quickly built up, so if I wanted a day off for a new release, I certainly had the time!

I've done so once, but it was a while ago so I don't exactly remember what game it was for.

No, I'm a responsible person who doesn't lie to his workplace to play games.

I have to say it's really childish and irresponsible to do that, I get you enjoy games but it is no reason to not show up to work just for your own enjoyment.

It's not like you can't play the game when you go home.
This. I'm not just gonna make up a lie to play a video game. I'm not 12. And I value my supervisor's trust and friendship too much to just casually lie to them. And I don't get vacation days at my current job, so the point is moot, anyway.

Can't say I've ever done that. I've taken lots of days off for no reason other than I didn't feel like going in, and then during these days, played some video games. But I've never taken the day off specifically to play a game.

eh haven't really needed to, if i did i would use my personal vacation time, i wouldn't ever "call in sick" for something like that, or make up fake funerals/excuses.

generally though with my work schedule it's not a big deal, i mean if you worked 10-12 hour shifts then yeah i could see you doin that, but otherwise it just doesn't seem necessary really.

what jobs are you referring to? unless it's some super critical job, i have yet to talk to anyone who didn't get at least a week's paid time off, and even then if you didn't want to work you could just request to not be scheduled for such and such day.

I haven't before, due to only recently getting into work last eight months... But I will be. This Friday, in fact. Mass Effect 3. :D

My case is actually rather unique. I work at Gamestop, so when a game is coming out that the managers know I want, they schedule my work days around the release. Pretty sweet.

I won't take off on launch day for Mass Effect 3 (a friend has a birthday), but I will be disappearing for the next day or so afterwards.

I'm using a week of vacation for Mass Effect 3. I'd never call in sick for a video game, though. Hell, I've rarely called in sick when I was actually sick.

I've taken weeks off and played recently released games in them but I've never taken those days off just to play the game. I'm patient enough to wait until a weekend, plus I generally figure it's best to see what other people make of a game before buying.

I order from Amazon nowadays. I can stand waiting at home. Usually it is UPS and they don't come until at least between 4pm and 5pm. Go to work and come home and boom game. Waiting around at home seem useless.

I don't have the money to buy games on release, so I've never had the opportunity.
Although I totally would.
