I've got it preordered. I love me some Duke Nukem. It may be a shooter, but if it's anything like the previous ones it won't be anything like the big shooter of today. Running around an area, spamming it full of bullets to mow down 15 enemies, all while they're blasting at you at the same time? Sounds better than hiding behind a crate and popping out every few seconds to take a potshot at someone.

Also, the humour is a big thing for me. It's the game version of a Mel Brooks film. It plays it straight, but makes so many jokes about itself and the genre that you can't help but laugh. Being a huge, muscular, one-liner spewing misogynist is hilarious.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to it for the same reasons you're not.

Where is the I'm going to preorder option? Duke was something I had only heard about through reading Game Magazines when I was younger so I didn't really know that much about it due to there being limited info and the games never actually releasing where I lived so I have no nostalgic feelings for getting the game. However when I heard development was canceled and after seeing the video for it I thought it may have ended up being quite a fun game similar to Serious Sam which I had played and enjoyed with friends plenty of times before. So I was actually happy to hear Gearbox were taking up the title and its weight to finish its development since:

1. I really enjoyed and am still enjoying Borderlands which was a well made game in my opinion.

and

2. What info and media they have released about the game looks and sounds funny and entertaining.

So I'm going to try and preorder it before it releases in June. [sub]Too bad the Balls of Steel edition is NTSC only meaning my Pal Xbox can't play it *sad face*[/sub]

I've been a fan of Duke since the 2d era where you used to drink soda for health and shoot zig zag lightning bolts. So yes, I'm all over every new press release, I can't wait for it.
The first two were surprisingly good platformer-shooters. Sort of like Contra, minus the instant-death. It wasn't until Duke 3D did the series dive head first into the misogynistic silliness it is today (or, was).
Spot on with the contra comparison. The old Duke games had an element of what was to come, he was overly macho and a complete action hero archetype. Personally I love the silliness that is Duke as back in my day it was cool, macho was in not the effeminate androgyny getting around now. In the current climate of political correctness the world needs the Duke to quite literally take the piss out of it.

There was that element initially ("I'm going to kick your ass and still be back home in time to watch Oprah". Or the intro screen for Duke 2 of him shooting a smiley into the paper target), but I tend to view Duke Nukem's humor in a similar vein of Mel Brooks' movies. While Brooks is considerably better-written and delivered, he is still very VERY Politically Incorrect...and I love it.

I'm glad it exists (or will exist), but it's not a game for me. That kind of humor doesn't appeal to me, I have no history with the franchise, and I hate the first person perspective in games. So definitely not buying.

I'm going to buy it on launch day just so I can claim I played Duke Nukem Forever. Waiting for the game to be released has been a right of passage for many a gamer, and I'm not going to pass up this opportunity.

I am going to pick it up on release day for one singular reason. Why? Because it is the unreleasable game, it is like, the Bigfoot of video games, save we get to find out that it is real.

I'll admit, don't much care about game-play or the like.

I won't get it on release day, but I'll probably get it eventually. Ironically, the shift in development to Gearbox has made this decision a lot easier- I was plenty fed up with 3D Realms' shenanigans. Implying that your game has taken longer than four versions of Windows to create because, oh, you're just that much of a perfectionist makes me want to hurl something hard at your face. There was way too much ego involved in the project, and the increasing willingness to license the character out to anyone still willing to touch him made it doubly appalling.

Gearbox, at least, seems to have its priorities in order- simply put, to make a fun game.

Frankly, I would've said no up until I started seeing what the fine people at Gearbox started bringing to my attention.

FPS's started a lot of practices that frankly hurt the genre in the long run. Barely interactive environments and extreme linearity.

I mean, DNF's probably not gonna be set in a sandbox and it probably isn't going to have some fantastic narrative that'll create a genuine affection for the characters, but it looks like it's at least encouraging exploration rather than sprinting down hallways shooting at generic brand terrorists or aliens while your poorly characterized squad members yell meaningless military jargon.

I'm quite hyped up to see if they will deliver us a fun and entertaining game, but Witcher 2 is already in my sights for purchase.

I will probably buy it after a few weeks have passed.

I hate this hype culture of judging games before they're released. It's quite likely it will be a generic 80% shooter, and I won't be buying it. There is a chance that it is amazing and one of the best games ever though and then I probably should buy it. I wait for reviews before making decisions on games. Even LA Noire - I'm not pre-ordering it though GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption are my #1 and #2 favourite games of all time. I trust rockstar more than anyone, but even they don't deserve the assumption that they'll never make a bad game.

You can get a good idea from previews, but it's always best to just wait because previews will always refrain from criticisms. There's a lot of potential flaws in LA Noire. Being on the right side of the law will be restrictive, and it's a focused narrative game, with none of the extra depth that gta is known for, not even radio stations! It's completely reliant on good writing, which we can't judge from previews and videogames don't have a reputation for getting that aspect right. How many times have we been let down by games that were overhyped? Look what happened with FFXIII, we expected a masterpiece and got a steaming pile of anime flavoured shit. Or Alan wake in development for 6 years and hugely hyped, ended up a cookie cutter linear horror game with horrible writing, combat, driving and level design. Or on the other hand with yakuza 3 we didn't expect anything special and got a real gem of a game that's easily the best jrpg this generation. Hold back your expectation and judgement, even Haze had glowing previews.

It is just a self-indulgent sexist FPS that thinks it is funny. Do not care in the slightest.
So, you're complete inability to understand satire is the reason for your not caring then?

I mean, the fact that Duke's health is called an Ego Meter isn't a big enough hint for you?

Unlike Bulletstorm, this looks like an actually humorous trashy game and we haven't had any of those in a long time, if ever. So yes, I'll buy it, probably on release day.
You know when I saw the trailers for Bulletstorm, I actually thought "Hmm, it looks like they're trying to be Duke Nukem.", in essence a game with crude but silly over-the-top humor. The difference is that Duke will actually make you laugh. His whole persona is what sells the game. He's a wisecracking, womanizing, super-egomaniac that kills aliens with improbable and silly weaponry. Even without the nostalgia, this game will definitely work, even if it's a 'guilty pleasure' sort of thing.

On a side note: Duke Nukem Forever is being released on June 14th (N. America). Also being released on June 14th, is Alice: Madness Returns. This means that two sequels I've been wanting for over a decade come out on the exact same day!!! Holy shit, that's like a gaming bliss overdose! Hopefully I'll be coming down from my Portal 2 high by then.
Bulletstorm was never trying to be Duke Nuke 'em. It was tryng to be Bullet Storm.

The action was over the top but they actually invested in developing characters which I think they did quite reasonably, if obviously, well.

I suppose the vibrator and shit was cutting edge satire as well. Don't make me laugh.
Whoever said it was cutting edge?

You just completely failed to understand what the game was about. That's all there is to it.

Frankly, owning it isn't about the game. It's about owning a piece of gaming history. The longest development time for any game, and frankly, it's rather historic. So if it's good, then that's just a bonus. If it isn't, oh well, at least I have the game.
