Yes, because when a game isn't serious it MUST BE DESTROYING ALL THE THE INDUSTRY HAS WORKED SO HARD ON.

If I get it it'll be because it looks like fun.

It's getting made not because they're trying to bring it back and make money, but because they never stopped trying to make it, and just because you think you won't like it any more wont stop others from doing so and wont stop the people creating who spent years keeping it from going under. I bet those hard working inidividuals you're talking about never had to try really hard to keep something in development for 13 years.

Until an industry can display an entire range of themes and emotions, and cater to hundreds of target audiences, it hasn't reached its potential. Movies are accepted as art now, but yet people still flock to see shit like the Scary Movie franchise. That's why going to the cinema is such an accepted thing to do. Films are for everyone.

If games can go anywhere from "look at the tragedy of war, isn't it horrific..." to "hell yeah, this is so cool" within the FPS genre alone, it's taking steps forward. We need games like Duke Nukem solely to provide contrast with games like CoD or Killzone. (Particularly in regards to Killzone 3, because at least Duke Nukem KNOWS its storyline is over the top and stupid.)

I'm getting it so I can rip off someone's head and shit down their neck.

Also, some of us are mature enough to appreciate the immaturity and camp involved for what it is.

Also, also, I'm 31. So yeah, I'm not one of those 16 year-olds, just fyi.

I must admit, you almost lost me with the 'movie quality' thing, but seeing as you added takes it further, I'm going to forgive you.
personally, I have already preordered king edition, and am proud of it. Yes, some games should be serious and thought provoking, but not all of them. The main reason for games is entertaiment, and entertain is what this game will do. Even without the adult humor, I would get it for fun. Deep gameplay is great, but so is shallow. That is why so many people defend the streamlining of games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, because for in some occasions, for some people, simpler is better.
I also think the world has gone a bit far with the whole political correctness thing, and should really just relax. On the debut (I think) of 'Hey Hey it's Saturday' here in Aus (yes, this was a while ago), there was a Jackson 5 impersonation. All the people doing the impersonation ( which was more for comet than seriousness) except for the person playing Michael wore black face paint. The one playing Michael wore white face paint. One of the guest judges was outraged and had a little rant about this, and I personally see nothing wrong with what the group did. Michael did have white skin (maybe not in the Jackson 5, but so what?) and the act was done more in jest than anything else. All of the judges and audience enjoyed it, but when the guest judge displayed his displeasure, they all suddenly were against the act, and the performers were made to appologise, all for the sake of political correctness.
There is a time for seriousness, but speaking from the perspective of someone who is forced to live a rather serious life from day to day, being always serious is very boring and sometimes depressing. There is a need for immaturity and fun.

A little known title that people seem to forget because its not "serious" or a triple A game is Eat Lead - the return of matt hazard, on xbox 360. That game was ridiculously funny and a complete cheese fest, the character knew he was in a game, was spurting one liners, and the story was insane. id recommend it you can pick it up for about $6 or £5 over here =]

OT: i love duke, he's the f***ing man !

And seriously, did you even think before saying "Hollow gameplay"?
I did. That's what an opinion is. They differ.
And yet you mock some other person's post saying otherwise.
Wow, hypocrisy at its finest.
I made note of their lack of effort in posting their opinion - making discussion impossible. They elaborated and I acknowledged their opinion.

Not hypocritical.

But perhaps ironic that you were so quick to jump on my post, when you yourself were incorrect.
Care to explain why I am incorrect,Hippocrates.

Im buying it. Why? Because Ive waited 14 fucking years for it. That and its a game of nonsense and self-parady that is a rather refreshing breathe of fresh air, like Bulletstorm.

My biggest problem with this game is that it undoes everything that the games industry, those hard working individuals and teams behind some truly amazing work. Games like the Uncharted series, Heavy Rain (I know not fantastic gameplay, but stay with me here) and Mass Effect. Games that moved away from just being "childrens toys". Developers that thought outside the box, giving the player something that can enrich their experience.
DNF is not going to set the medium back, technological or culturally. Thats only what Fox News is telling you (remember how Bulletstorm was going to make kids rapist for playing it?) DNF is just going to be another game made this year, and to assume that it will have serious repercutions is like assuming the world was going to end on the 21st of May... Also, if DNF DOES have any effect, it will be on FPS games alone.

Not every game has to be a work of art. Some games just have to be fun. And on that front, The Duke most certainly delivers.

I'm not going to buy it because I'm not really interested. Certainly I don't have a problem with them making it. It's certainly better than outright avoiding controversial games for fear of Fox News. Games are still only a recently-popular medium; in a few years they won't be 'new media' any more. Then it'll be more like the film or publishing industry, where complaints are levelled at individual products rather than taken to represent the industry as a whole.

Overall: Ignore the whiners, they're just old. They'll retire soon.

There's nothing wrong with a game of less artistic merit excisting in the same world as Mass Effect or Heavy Rain. For every Black Swan and Scott Pilgrim, there are 50 American Pies and Expendables. Mozart and Bethoven can exist in the same world as Rebecca Black and the Biebster. Whether any of them are good or not is a subjective matter, but I doubt they're trying to acheive the same things.

Duke Nukem is a throwback to old school shooters and that's fine. I want to buy it because I like that sort of thing. I really like Duke Nukem 64 so this might be more of the same.

Calumon: Errmmm... I don't... Aren't I too young to be here? There's big words and something about someone I don't know. :S
It's OK, Calumon. Just people blabbering about things about perspectives they don't fully understand. I believe it's called xenophobia, but I could be wrong. "Don't worry, be happy" as they say.

Well I know that I am not going to buy it. Too many other better games which I need to save my money for.

Thank god somebody said this! What the hell happened to the good ol' days of being fun? Most of the crap we have is 'Artful,' 'immersive,' and 'philosophical;' but what the hell happened to the actually important question, "Is it fun?" I admit I'm buying the game for nostalgia's sake, but what I'm really looking for is something that's fun.

I would rather not have all games being "movie like" as said heavy rain and uncharted. Variety is key in any industry.

Yeah, gotta stop you right there. Until an industry has the right to create in any way the industry's workers see fit, that industry hasn't made any true progress. Take sculpting, for instance. It wasn't all that long ago that a man sculpted a giant vagina. Was he laughed out of the building? Was the industry belittled because of it? Far from it. That giant vagina won several prestigious art awards.

Just because you don't appreciate something the same way others might does not mean you have the authority to declare it trivial or useless. There are plenty of people who will be really happy to see DNF finally released. My little brother being one of them. "Little" meaning he's 21 in this case. And he only plays a video game once every five or six months. I don't remember the last time he was excited prior to a game's release.
yeah there was also a guy in england that created molds of womens vagina's and put them up on the outside of his studio
OT:i want to get it but getting ocarina of time remake instead mostly because i love zelda more than the duke but i will pick it up eventually
