To the OP...
I get what you are saying, and yes, games like Mass Effect and Heavy Rain are bringing some serious cred to video games. However, whats wrong with going back to something less serious, and childish, if its a fun break from everything that IS serious?

I played Duke back on the PC in what.... 90? 91? I had a blast with it then, and thats one of the reasons I plan to get this one. I am not looking for anything serious, and if this game TOOK itself seriously, I would be highly disappointed. I want some brainless, anti-politically correct fun, and I think this game will deliver in that department.

Call it a break from all the seriousness. In this day and age, I think we all need a little of that, to be honest.

I might buy it after checking out reviews and actual gameplay videos.

Not every game has to be a work of art. Some games just have to be fun. And on that front, The Duke most certainly delivers.
You can be fun without being offensive, crass or downright stupid. =p Ask Katamari Damacy, or Portal.

Probably not, seeing as though I never grew up with the originals and it just does seem like my cup of tea to be honest.

I'm buying it, and let me tell you why (dear lord I must have said this a million times already):

Duke Nukem 3D was literally the second game I ever played. I spent hours trying to find and use every gun on everything. I loved the one-liners, even if I didn't get them all at the time. I was genuinely sad when the news broke that Duke was dead forever. Now, I'm not some super-obsessed fanboy, but I remember the days of Duke, Quake, Doom, Heretic, etc. I fell out of gaming for awhile, and when I got back in, do you know what greeted me? Halo. And then they modernized Call of Duty. Flash forward...jesus, over five years now...and I am so sick and tired of shooters trying to be real life. Is a gun that shrinks your enemies so you can then step on them realistic? No, but it's effing funny. Is it in depth, fleshing out characters through cutscenes, revealing their backstories and motivations and hopes and fears? Hell no. And it doesn't need to. When they released Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA I was estatic. When I loaded it up, suddenly I was six again, actually using a book to prop myself up to see the computer screen, playing my dad's games even though I wasn't supposed to.

So in short, yes, I will buy Duke Nukem Forever. And my only thing to say about it is thus: 3D Realms, if I can't carry more than two guns and have to use ironsights, we are going to have problems. /rant

You want to know why I am buying it? It is not in the hands of a bunch of monkeys. Randy seems like an awesome man, and not an idiot.

The fact that people think that stupidity, over the top violence, one liners and immature humour is somehow less artistically relevant makes me laugh.
I see more art contained within DNF than the likes of Heavy Rain or Mass Effect. Can't wait for this game to come out so I can throw lumps of shit at the walls, kick bitches in the face and shoot rockets at pigcops while I laugh my ass off the entire time. \o/

I love these high horsed peeps. Duke Nukem is not ruining games, not undoing anything. Neither is Call Of Duty or any other mainstream game that every single pretentious asshole hates because of the success. Duke Nukem is not undoing anything. People out there will still be making "Good" games.

Maybe Duke is a stoner friend you had when you were a teenager, maybe you haven't seen the guy in a long time. But aint a reunion always nice? And if not, then let the next generation of teenagers know the stoner friend, and giggle at his immature jokes.

Hail to the King! Of course I bought it. Pre-ordered the Balls Of Steel edition! This game will be awesome whatever it's faults are, because the fact that it came out after all those years gives it +10million points from the start. As for going back... I have no idea what you mean. If the modern FPS-es in all the colors of the dirt spectrum, painted in gun metal gray and dog shit brown are the moving forward in the same way that 3D is moving the movies forward, then please I want to take a step back before most things became scheit and started selling themselves on the fact that they are scheit.

As for Serious Sam 3, I see no reason why I shouldn't get them both :). I thirst for exotic weapons and one liners :D

And seriously, did you even think before saying "Hollow gameplay"?
I did. That's what an opinion is. They differ.
And yet you mock some other person's post saying otherwise.
Wow, hypocrisy at its finest.
I made note of their lack of effort in posting their opinion - making discussion impossible. They elaborated and I acknowledged their opinion.

Not hypocritical.

But perhaps ironic that you were so quick to jump on my post, when you yourself were incorrect.
Care to explain why I am incorrect,Hippocrates.
Because the claim you made asserting that I had brushed off someone's post as an invalid opinion is untrue. As I explained above.
Ah I see you are the special type.
Well have fun pointlessly arguing with someone else because I don't argue with "special" people

But what if the whole franchise depends on balls and tits jokes?

It managed to get by just fine without those in Duke Nukem 1 & 2. If you really need boobs to let your franchise survive you should sit up and realise that it's ~really~ lacking in other departments.

(And there's boobs in games, and then there's an excessive use of boobs games, there's a reason why Dead or Alive is a laughing stock these days)

I'm probably not gonna buy it, not because I feel like it's "ruining gaming" but because I don't really feel like paying for it. I'll probably rent it though and if I love it I'll buy it then, I just don't think I'll love it. And how is it "ruining games"? Sucker Punch hasn't ruined movies, nor has Transformers or any other blockbuster that is just a whole bunch of action. Twilight didn't ruin books or make them look bad and as much impact as Justin Bieber has had on the world he hasn't made the music industry take a step back. Why do people only think that Video Games are gonna get ruined by immature/poor games? It really insults the industry as a whole when you say that, it's acting like the industry is a weak thing and that bad press might kill it off forever

Given the fact some games as of late are... well, crap Duke Nukem could end up actually being good? regardless of liking it at least Duke has a personality unlike some characters in multimillion sellers

It's nice when a game intending to be stupid comes out instead of the many trying to be serious but are just empty, soulless jokes

maybe from the budget bin.

Honestly i didn't get in the the Duke Nukem hype when the game was still relavent let alone now. Not Big fan of FPS, even less of of the dumb over the top ones. Dont get me wrong they have there moments, but i'm not paying 60 bucks for a prettier version of serious sam or postal. I mean if i had the idea that would really be funny i might be tempted, weapons with cool effect that suprise you fine. But now it just looks like a bunch of gimmicks.
If they bring something new,or just does something old REALLY well great i'm all ears. But
i doubt it.

On another note, no mater how good you think it is, does any one honestly expect to see something that justifies the development time?

The difference is that films, books and music are commonly accepted as valid artforms. In the eyes of the masses, video games are still pubescent macho manboy things that only frat boys could enjoy, DNF gladly helps along in cementing that stereotype.

And frankly, you could have a fun straightforward arcade shooter ~without~ all the stuff that makes DNF as offensive as it is.
