Sometimes we just need to get away from the games that call themselves serious.
Sometimes you just need some dumb fun, and DNF is here for it.

I'm going to buy it for sure. I grew up with the Duke. (sorry, Mr. Wayne) Sure, some of the new kids want their Micheal Bay space marine grey games, but Duke is something else. Don't get me wrong I can dig some artsy-fartsy game like Heavy Rain and some bullshit but sometimes it's nice to get behind the eyes of Duke and fuck some stuff up.

Is he "undoing" what very little the game industry has accomplished in a few years. No. And you're a retard for thinking this is stepping backwards. Bulletstorm, Kane and Lynch, Gears of War, Homefront. Those are steps if you ask me.

...most of the people who play this game will probably be 16 year old teens, who shouldn't be playing anyway.

These games demonstrate that you can have movie quality like content within a game and take it further, make it unique and it'll last a lot longer than a film.

I know theres a market for it, but how many law suits do you think are going to come out of this game "having a laugh" is going to cause? Everyone with their brand stamped on this are walking a tight rope about this - if its as bad as it could be, then bankruptcy is not a far fetched idea.
Ok, I actually disagree with quite a lot of that. lol

I don't know how you arrived at the majority of players being 16, it just looks way off. Considering that the demographic of FPS players is very wide nowadays, and especially since 16 is very young for one that plays video games, statistically speaking.

Now, saying that a game has "movie-like quality," that's a bad thing. That's a very bad thing for a video game. Not that there's anything wrong with movies. To make a video game into a movie or try and model it after one, is a step down. A step down from what it could be or should be. One of my pet peeves in video games would be when they show an awesome cut-scene where my character does something epic, well, why can't I do that.

If you go to amazon and have a look around, you can actually find a lot of books on rape, and rape fantasy. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that all books are going to be painted as supportive of rape or even seen as how-tos of rape, because A: They don't represent all books, and are just a few amongst a massive sea of books - B: They're completely fantasy land, fake. If anyone does jump up and down over it, they'll mostly be seen as either fear-mongers or out of touch with reality, e.g. the fox news story on it.

I'll be getting it if the Demo is good (which I'm really hoping it is!) I've really hated FPS's recently because as someone brought up on the likes of Quake, Doom and yes, DN3D, I really hate how boring and pretensious they've gotten. I loved Bulletstorm and I'm preying to God that this will be worth it.

Even if it is crap, I will still pick it up in the inevitable Steam sale to see what happens to a Game 13 plus years in development.

It's a game that's supposed to be for shits and giggles, and the developers are on-purpously developing it to be the way it is as a joke towards mainstream views today.

Really, if people don't get that this game is kinda like a "parody" to modern shooting games and such, then I feel kinda bad for em.

Anyways, you can go on hating, I think I'm going to buy it for the simple joy of finding out how they go about it.

Not every game has to be a work of art. Some games just have to be fun. And on that front, The Duke most certainly delivers.
You can be fun without being offensive, crass or downright stupid. =p Ask Katamari Damacy, or Portal.
But sometimes, offensive, crass and downright stupid games are just what the doctor ordered.

Now I should point out that I don't mind some offensive, crass or downright stupid material in my games, after all I did enjoy DN3D, but from what I've seen of DNF so far, it simply has too much of that going on this time around. And when you have too much of that it stops being funny and starts being obnoxious. But that's how I feel about it at least.

I love the argument for DNF: "Only 12-16 year olds will love it because thats their sort of thing"

Listen...Do you realize WHO exactly is Duke's demographic?
20-50 year olds who have always loved Duke Nukem and have been waiting for more Duke (waiting is the key word; 12 years is a long time). Duke is an OLD game, and if you're using said argument....YOU'RE the one thats probably too young for the game yourself.

My biggest problem with gamers right now is how they always go on about how its undermining the work done by other developers.

Erm, no it doesn't. Stop saying that. The "good games" will still be coming out. I've preordered duke, and knowing that you think its undermining the industry makes it sweeter

I'm quite surprised by the reasults in this poll... but I suggest rather than guessin if the game is good or not (and thus saying now if we will or will not buy it) we should wait for it to come out and read some reviews and watch some footidge... Personaly I would be able to tell my opinion on it's worth then. ^^

Nostalgia, the desire for a game that doesn't take itself too seriously and a need for excessive toilet humour. Cannot wait. I also look forwards to Serous Sam BFE but i prefered the older cartoony style.

The difference is that films, books and music are commonly accepted as valid artforms. In the eyes of the masses, video games are still pubescent macho manboy things that only frat boys could enjoy, DNF gladly helps along in cementing that stereotype.

And frankly, you could have a fun straightforward arcade shooter ~without~ all the stuff that makes DNF as offensive as it is.
But it's really not (seen as childish and full of losers and dumb frat boys). The simple fact is that number of people who have never played a video game is getting smaller and smaller everyday. It's not just for "losers sitting in their parent's basement playing some nerdy thing". Hell Hollywood blamed Halo 3 for their piss poor Box Office in the Month of October. As flawed as that logic was, nobody was sitting there saying, "Wow, I never realized there were so many nerds in the world." Go up to any random person on the street and tell them you play Call of Duty. Or say Portal, or Final Fantasy, or just list off any video game. If they don't know what you're talking about just tell them it's a Video Game. They won't back off from you like you have the plague or anything, they won't really care. Gaming isn't a niche hobby anymore, and more and more people are realizing that.

Yes, you're always going to have your Roger Ebert's of the world; people who are really resistant to the new medium of entertainment. But I'm sure there were people who protested movies when they first came out, that it was childish and the only REAL entertainment was the Theater. And yes you'll still have groups like Fox News, raising controversy is how they raise money. It's just that they're in the minority. People are accepting gaming as something more than just shooting baddies. Otherwise games like Portal or any puzzle game would never exist as they would never turn a profit. It's the benefit of casual gamers, that they showcase how gaming isn't something that you can use as an insult.

We've moved past the era where games like Custer's Revenge DID hurt the industry. Gaming isn't in danger of having another crash like it did in '83, it's too strong now. It's moved past infancy as an industry. It's 30 something years old now, it's an adult. Finally everyone is acting like this is the first game to do this. Have you ever heard of Conker's Bad Fur Day? That was arguably even worse than DNF and the industry survived it, moved on, and has now become stronger than ever. One game isn't going to ruin the industry, it would take a massive shift from EVERY developer and publisher to make that happen. Everybody would have to get on board and say, "Sexism and stupid violence is the way to go. Make it happen." But because games like Heavy Rain or LA Noire exist, games that focus on story and visual's more than shooting Random Baddie A the game industry is not going to die off.

I have the Balls of Steel edition preordered. Personally, I'm getting sick of all these serious and "realistic" shooters. I miss the old fun ones, where you got to keep every weapon you picked up, you had to find health instead of it regenerating, the level designs were more than just linear sections put together with cut scenes, and you had insane over-the-top weapons. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean there aren't those of us who do.

My biggest problem with this game is that it undoes everything that the games industry, those hard working individuals and teams behind some truly amazing work. Games like the Uncharted series, Heavy Rain (I know not fantastic gameplay, but stay with me here) and Mass Effect.
So, your main problem is that they made a game that is supposed to be fun (you know, that thing that games are supposed to be) instead of being an interactive book/movie? Heavy Rain was pretty much a movie with QTE's, and Mass Effect (actually, all BioWare games) are so damn slow and boring. I'd rather have games that were fun then games where I run around for hours just talking to people and then when I finally get to a combat section, all I do is click on the enemy and wait for them to die, then click the next.

And yeah there are boobs, but at the end of the day, it still isn't as pathetic as BioWare's "love scenes".
