The poll needs a 'Because its BORING' option. I played the 14 day trial and noticed afew things, you 'level up' by not playing the game and its one of the most boring games i've ever played. No plot after the beginning video clip, combat was click once and then see if you win. I mean seriously atleast wow you get to push a button every few seconds and make it feel like your doing something. Eve online you just set range, and you shoot at eachother and then you win or lose.

If anyone could come up with a reason for EVE being fun i would give them a cookie, its a clever game and the millions of mechanics and skills and stats etc interested me but they certainly werent fun.

I was playing but i stopped ages ago cos i couldn't pay for it and my train fare to college aswell, and its slow and repetitive and bored. I got to the point where i was piloting a full blown battleship and it was rubbish.

Where's the "Because it sucks." option? Because that's the one I'd pick. It's a slow paced, boring, grind-a-thon and I have better things to do with my time. If I wanted to forfeit my personal life because of an MMO I'd go back to FFXI, which I actually enjoyed despite it also being slow and difficult as hell.

2 reasons why i wont play EVE - Online

1st played it with the 14day trial and regretted ever spending most of my 14days getting from solar systems and being blown up by pirates

2nd EVE's problem of making every movement tabs and waiting for stuff to happen, good old fly in shooting and blow stuff up and get out of there before they noticed i have jammed a warhead up there arse

I can't believe this thread is still going, but I'll add to the repetitive inanity.

IT'S SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW... any game that makes you wait REAL LIFE hours to do something is obviously trying to compensate for lack of things to do. I couldn't handle it. It's a fun game if you just play it for 15 minutes every couple days, but if you play it all the time there is nothing to do.

Why aren't I playing it? Two reasons.

1) I prefer WoW.
2) It costs money/month, which is more than my unemployed student ass can afford right now.
3) I don't like it.

Huh. Three reasons I guess.
Same pretty much, and what are these horror stories of which the OP speaks?

You describe extremely simple-minded 1v1 combat. The 1v1 frigate tourneys I've been in involved more than target/turn on weapon. Also, it's much, much more complex than that even in a small 3v3 -- And the big fleet battles involve hundreds. Even when I'm mining I have to do more keypresses than you describe. So Eve's combat doesn't interest you; I can understand that. But at least come at it with a criticism that makes sense.

i played EVE for the 2week trial. after that i had no interest in signing up. i felt like EVE was a second job in factory to pay for a second mortgage on a house i cant own. frustrating, tiring, too involved, full of angry assholes, and very unforgiving. so, it's just like real life. fuck that shit.

A lot of the reasons have been said by Yahtzee. any game where you level up stats by clicking a button and then waiting for 14 HOURS = bad gameplay. Also, It's really not as deep as people say, I played a free trial, and got so bored because the quests all end up as the same thing: Find this place, search for a while, kill X amount of whatever, return to base by choosing destination, activate autopilot, then watch TV. It's got to be the only MMO that doesn't seem to WANT you to play! Traveling takes forever, Mining takes forever, Leveling takes ESPECIALLY long, and you don't do anything.

This game had SO MUCH potential, but it lost me.

You're wrong there. It means you don't have to play 23/7 to level up. You do, however, need to play to earn the cash to buy your ships and equipment.

I can't count how many times friends have told me about their WoW groups breaking up because one person played too much, levelled past everyone else, and broke up the group. This doesn't happen with Eve since there aren't levels to begin with.

Some people in it seem to find things to do for hours on end, though I admit that I don't. But then I'm really in it for running the corp.

It's very very deep. IF you go past just PvE missions. I agree with you, the PvE is lacking. Again, that's not what I'm in it for.

I looked at what I'd have to do to build Hulks from the most basic gathered items to final product... There's no way. It's such a long and complex path involving so many different processes. Running a station for moon-mining, running reactions on moon materials, buying and researching blueprints for components, raiding hidden complexes for decryptors for the invention process... the list goes on.

That's funny, I guess all of my friends and I are just "casual" WoW gamers then, because we all level at about the same pace. But what do I know, I've just been playing WoW since beta. That "real time MMO" is for some people, but not me.

The big GHSC heist: http://eve.klaki.net/heist/

EIB scam: http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/08/23/1918246

These are the most famous two, but smaller scale scams abound. Put people in a real economy with very few regulations, and these things are bound to happen.

Well, I really can't argue that because I've only played the trial, but I stand by what I say. The point of a trial is to get people interested, which it didn't do (in my case at least). I'm not going to attack people for playing this game, whatever floats your boat, I played Runescape for 2 years religiously before I decided that I should do something else with my life.

The bottom line is, I don't find it fun. I spent my 2 week trial stock-piling enough ISK to buy one of the larger ships in the game. But then I found out that I didn't have the required stats. I go out, get more money and buy the stat trainers. I thought, ok, here we go, until I noticed that one of them took 2 DAYS to complete. But I went through it all anyways, thinking that this ship would be soooo cool. I wait, and wait, until I have the proper stgats, then find out that I have to subscribe to use the ship.

Exit game, remove desktop icon, uninstall game.

So you stand by "It's really not as deep as people say"? Or what? I have no problem with your bottom line, "it's not fun," since fun is in the eye of the beholder. But your previous post was that it's not deep because all the quests are the same. :/
