Nah, it's fun. I like it. If you don't like it, you're some kind of pussy who isn't man enough to admit that he enjoys a game series that is mostly intended for children. Mike Krahulik went and kicked ass in a god damn Pokemon tournament against little kids. He's got exponentially more balls than anyone who voted to end it.

Pokemon? Yes. Mario? I think he still has some life on him. Yeah, Galaxy 1 and 2 weren't the best games ever, but Bowser's Inside Story gives me hope.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were like the worst pokemon games ever made, and I simply hated them. The pokemon were unimaginative, the secret bases were fucked, the pokemon contests sucked, the touch screen was overused, and for some reason they changed up how special and physical attacks worked, screwing up a system some of us have spent 10 years learning.
Again, I'm going to have to point out that saying D/P were the worst is a matter of opinion (honestly I think most would agree the 2 Stadium games were the worst, if we're going for the title "Worst Pokemon game(s) ever"), and you need to learn to separate your opinion from blanket statements that assume everyone agrees with you.

Also, I have to point out what someone else in this thread said; the pokemon games are remade with new pokemon for the next generation of kids, not for you or me or that guy over there. Sure we all have nostalgia from the originals, and some of us genuinely want to follow along with the series because it holds a special place in our minds and hearts, but Nintendo isn't going to cater to us alone. If you notice, each RPG Pokemon game gets released what...every few years? Sure there's plenty of spin-offs that come out in between (like the Ranger and Mystery Dungeon games), but D/P came out like late 2006 I believe...and now B/W is being released for us sometime next year. Those of us who grew up with the series need to understand, these games are not being made to target us anymore, not mainly anyway.

I dunno; I'm actually excited about the new Pokemon, since they stopped trying to make them look like animals and MADE ONE OUT OF AN ICE CREAM CONE. And A SARCOPHAGUS. I may actually find some worthwhile non-1/2 gen Pokes to add to my permanent roster.

I'm gonna go ahead and get screamed at by nintendo here..

Awesome starter. Its final evolution is a slight bit odd, but at this level it is my Favorite grass starter.

I'd say there is hope.

Making the games Darker and Grittier is one interesting direction to put it, but why not simply make it an MMORPG?For PC and Consoles.Kinda like the N64's Pokémon Colosseum, but not confined to an just an arena, and with a slightly compelling story other than the current formula.
Making it Darker and Grittier is in fact the worst thing they can do! Remember, this series is still for kids and the reason most of us are still fans is because it still appeals to the kid in us. As for going MMO... well let's face it most of us would like to see that but making it work would take some effort. MMOs are not often the most "Mature" places on earth, if it were to be built like a standard MMO you'd have the same system found in Mario Kart Wii or SSBB. Friend Codes anyone?

Maybe with a faster connection you can have local linkups with players around you without having to go to the Pokemon Center; then you and a buddy can Co-Op a cave or a Gym instead of level grinding for the next link battle. Now imagine support for 6 or 8 local linkups, I think that's the closest we can get to an MMO or Co-Op experience.

If only Gamefreak wasn't a Japanese Developer; guess I'll just have to make my own game.

EDIT: Oh wait... my mistake looks like they're already doing that. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102473-Update-Pokemon-Black-White-Make-Your-Pokemon-Broadway-Stars

You're probably right.Making it Darker would be for the old fans,us.I think GameFreak pretty much made SoulSilver and HeartGold as a way of saying "fuck you, heres a re-jigged oldie to keep you guys quiet while we market ourselves to the people that matter, the kids".
By Darker/Grittier, I wasn't exactly thinking "Gears Of War" or something that extreme, perhaps a slightly less childish approach?I dunno, maybe some PETA inspired Civil War between democrats wanting to keep Pokémon away from battles and everyone else who wants to keep it the old fashioned way?

Ok, not a perfect Idea, but it's all I got.

As for the MMO part, sure it's not exactly the what the Japanese are great at, but they already have some pretty solid aspects done, like the GTS.They could add a free-roaming multiplayer option, like in Fable 2, where people just bump into you in your game and do quests together and such (obviously they would need to make it actually worthwhile, but it's not impossible).

The problem with GameFreak is that they're a little too comfortable with the way their franchise works. It's not like they can't use some of their absolutely huge salary to invest in a good new game instead of wasting everyones time with their worthless little gimmick games (Ranger,Pokemon Dungeon,Pokemon Dash, etc). If they took more risks, who knows? They could come up with a good new formula for their games.

I like the games, but some of the newer pokemon these days just look ridiculous, they really need to update the cries, and get proactive and update the battle animations since neither have changed much in the past 13 years

I agree with the OP's sentiment, but not his solution. In my view Pokémon has already taken enough abuse to make killing it worthwhile. The damage has already been done. We still have our old Pokémon games that we can play. I wouldn't mind if Nintendo made a remake every few years, but we all know that is different.

Take note, everything you and I just said is pretty much what they're doing. Co-Op, PokePETA... but like I said I don't know if a darker Pokemon would settle well since I love the games for that childish charm. I'm not above saying my inner child is in heaven when my Elder shell isn't plotting out and grinding a Pokemon for a semi-decent team.

But I think you might profit from reading more in to the new games even here on The Escapist. Looks like all the new additions can really make these Versions well worth the familiar format.

I'm sorry but so long as these guys around, I think we've got bigger issues.

Maybe it's not a great deal of evolution, but the game does in fact change with every generation, in small ways along with the next batch of collectables. The complaint seems to be that the core of the game stays the same. I submit that that is how sequels should work: Making improvements to the game, slowly testing new ideas, but keeping the bulk of what made it fun in the first place.

I honestly have wishes for more serious things to disappear than a cutsey game about fighting, raising and playing with little creatures.

You know, while I don't agree with Amyler's initial response approach, I understand why he did it. You don't go bashing a series just because you no longer have an interest in it, and I also agree that whether or not the new designs suck is a matter of opinion. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean they suck. So I have to go with what Amyler said, you need to learn to keep your opinion as -drum roll- your opinion, instead of offering up a negative statement as if it were fact.
In a thread based on why the OP wants to stop the Pokemon games it's perfectly reasonable. Also, it's not because I no longer have interest in it, I'm complaining because they're not going anywhere with it, just the same shit over and over. Actually, I just find they're gradually getting worse.

As for the new Pokemon, if I find that they suck then I'm going to say that they suck because I'm allowed to share my opinion. If you don't like it, ignore it. Simple as that. I never rubbed it in anyone's face as fact, he quoted me to know why and I gave him my reasons.

They will never end it as long as they are making money. Just look at all the other Nintendo franchises.
but they actually have DIFFERENT things in SOME of the franchises. Kinda...maybe...okay not really but at least those don't just make slightly different hats for their creature slaves and call it a new game.

You sure about that?
o_O I sit corrected

Pokémon is a 'release title'. Whenever a new handheld comes out, a new Pokémon game comes out. It's tradition, really.

Shamefully, you think you are content with one Pokémon game, but then they improve something and remake and/or make an improved version. (Red, Blue, Yellow/Green)(Gold, Silver, Crystal)(Ruby, Saphire, Emerald)(Diamond, Pearl, Platinum)

So I might buy A Pokémon game for the Dsi, but maybe I want to wait until Pokémon Gray comes out.

They are getting bland. Not so creative and imaginative as the first ones anymore. But, by God I keep buying it because it's still fun in many ways.

I bet there will be Pokémon Turquise and Magenta next. The third one? Pokémon Scarlet!
