Tl;dr all of it but you seem to be assuming the card games and animé series were first, when it was actually the game. The cards and tv show are supposed to capture the idea of the game, not the other way around.

A short bit of research reveals you are indeed correct, but the larger point I endeavored to make (that the franchise indeed has neither room nor need for improvement) stands in spite of this.

ugh, every time i read threads like these i feel like rubbing a cheese grater against my face...

to say that nothing has changed between Pokemon Red/Blue and Pokemon Black/White is just incredibly retarded. a whole fuckton of new things have been added between then and now, including things like rematches, double & triple battles, 3D graphics and online battling/trading.

to the people saying that all the new Pokemon look stupid, take your damn Nostalgia Goggles off. there have always been stupid Pokemon, no matter what the Generation. and this Gen has some great Pokemon, a lot are much better than some from previous gens.

and then the Story, who the hell plays a Pokemon game for the story, that's like buying a car for the spare wheels. yes, the story's aren't exactly Oscar-winning material, but they really are not a vital part of the game. i agree, if the story was better it might make the games better, but if they don't change the story much then it doesn't affect the game much for me.

and that's my rant, i doubt i'll stay in this thread too long, i fear i may feel compelled to rip my eyes out. i'll be playing Pokemon SoulSilver if anyone needs me.

Pokemon will never end as long as their are still people watching/playing it...if your a true fan to Pokemon, you will respect that this a show for kids, and not us teens/adults, therefore it should not change just Because you and few other don't like it.

No matter what the hell you try to do, it will take alot for Pokemon to change, think of Pokemon in the real world, in our world Animals are different all over the globe, same with Pokemon, why should they keep it relativity the same when it isn't in the real world? Hell i'd love to see what Pokemon live in Africa, the amount of stuff they could do.

stop Trolling, and respect it for what it is.

By the way, anyone else notice that these hate threads usually have under 100 posts?

or is it just me?

Pretty much how I reacted to the bolded part of your comment, goddamn...
Why may i ask? ha?

No, don't end it. But actually make a new game.

Hear me out:

Rather than adding 8 bajillion pokemon, add about 50. Spend the rest of your time and money on an actually interesting story, improved overworld mechanics, etc.
I agree. Why not make it a fighting game? Or an MMO?

People like the main handheld series because it is what it is; it slowly evolves on its own (and B/W make a lot of changes for the better). If you don't like it, play the spinoffs. Or don't play them at all.

But frankly, I'd buy the next Pokemon ten times before I'll buy some of the major "AAA" console releases coming out.

So what, the new generations don't deserve their own Pokemon?

I say ending it now is blasphemy! Sure Platinum will never compare to your precious Pokemon Red, but in 14 years when Pokemon Triangle or whatever they're down to is coming out, some other 20 year old will be complaining how its not as good as Pokemon Black and White were.

Bear with me here, as this may be hard to say in text.

One thing I really don't understand is this: people saying "omg I love the original games and still play them occasionally, but the new ones suck because they changed nothing and just do the same thing over and over". Surely, logic would dictate that not changing anything and "rehashing the same thing" would mean that such people would like the new games as (in their own words here not mine) they are supposedly exactly the same as the original ones they like so much.

Anyway, random nonsensical blabbering aside, I myself enjoy the games. Much like many other people. Tell you what, let's just kill off all of the things YOU enjoy just because other people somewhere in the world dislike them. There are things I dislike about all of the games, but there are plenty of things for me to enjoy the game for. I expect the same will be true with Black and White as well.

Ah well, haters gon' hate.

I'm just gonna go ahead and state the obvious right now. Just because you might not derive enjoyment from a particular game doesn't mean a damn thing. The fact that you think they change hardly anything between generation proves your ignorance of said game. All you need to do is watch a tournament match to see that the combat in the recent games is most likely too deep and complex to wrap your tiny head around. The difference between combat in Red/Blue and Diamond/Pearl is like the difference between night and day.

You fanboys...

It's shocking how topics like this bring out the worst in people and proves undeniably their ineptitude for dignity. The market needs to stop being based in milking everything forever. What happened to the times when entertainment actually MEANT something? You make a game or a movie and it becomes frighteningly popular, then 10 years later it's a cult following. These days, it's all unanimously about frankensteining old elements into something that's guaranteed to sell.
Maybe you can enlighten me here, but when the hell has the entertainment industry ever been about anything other than making money? You can prattle on all day about games being art or whatever but the driving force behind every piece of art ever made (besides maybe cave paintings) is money.

And so it begins. Again. Despite the fact that B/W makes more changes than all the others. Granted, it's the same formuala but then ifit wasn't it wouldn't still be pokemon. It's what pokemon is all about.

Besides, you don't like it of course, so Nintendo must stop and everyone who still likes pokemon can suck a lemon!

Wow this thread lasted longer then i thought... people getting into this enough to write essays. Is this ok for a compromise? Don't stop making games/merchandise/cards cause nintendo just won't. there money in it. But please, just stop making increasingly crappy looking pokemon. There's enough of them. the ratio of good/bad pokemon per new release has tipped heavily to the 'bad' end o the spectrum.

Secondly, if your gunna make games, do something different dammit! Pokemon Snap: FUN, Hey You, Pickachu!: FUN (albeit annoying to no earthly end) Colosseum: Decent, and cool to play with friends and fellow fans, Mystery Dungeon: Almost exactly what i wanted nintendo to do, if they just made it 3d, then hell yeah!

What do all these games have in common? They aren't the same damn handheld version redone with minor tweaks to gameplay and revisions of incredibly shit 'stories'. Nintendo has the potential to make new and interesting things using pokemon. it has done it. Why not do it again? doodling ridiculous and just silly monster drawings and then calling them new material just shouldn't cut it anymore.

Fans and casual player, anyone of the millions who play it, should ask for better from nintendo after paying out the shit-pipe again and again for their gaming kibble.

Wtf? Why? No seriously, why? This isn't some literary masterpiece that we have come to respect and love only to be bastardized by future generations. It's freakin' Pokemon.

I hate people who make this arguement. Seriously.

Because its fairly obvious that you have not played Pokemon since Gold/Silver, and are judging hte new Pokemon based soley on the fact that the new ones arent the old ones...

IF you actually played the game, you would realize each generation adds new mechanics, and betters the game play (both metagame and competitive). Its not the old Rock/Paper/Scizors bs, its gotten a lot more complicated since then.

And the fact that they are constantly making new Pokemon, and finding ways to spark interest with old ones, as well as encouraging new strategies and gameplay styles, I fail to see how they are stagnant.

I mean, for fucks sake. Major mechanic innovations each generation isnt something we ask from ANY of our milked franchises. So when one actually does do it, its considered "milked" just because it has appeal to kids.

Usually I see two sides of a story, but no. In this case, no. If were bitching about innovation in a industry known for its lack of it, then you need to just go play whatever generic first person shooter you think "changed the face of the gaming industry".
THIS. Omg this. I mean, can you give me a more cohesive and thought out argument other than "It's not the same as it was in my childhood and I hate it!" First off, not true; it's changed, just not the way you wanted it. Second, who cares? Kids still LOVE IT, and for every new generation of Pokemon they invent, there is a new generation of kids that fall in love with it. Is it really that you hate where Pokemon is headed, or did you just grow out of it? Geez, I see no reason to this thread...if you got your way, the BEST that would happen is a bunch of kids would be upset because their beloved show/game is gone forever, and a bunch of old farts (hey, that's you!) will rejoice because "Thank God that game is gone! You kids don't understand, in the good old days, it was blah blah blah blah blaaaaahhh." So congrats on making little kids cry.
Um... dude? An old fart? I'm 16. yeah. yes i'm a little nostalgic if a 16 year old can be, but thats not the point. It just suck ridiculous balls. the black and white pokemon just look waaaaay to, well, stupid! How many species of animal are there in the world? thousands. hundreds of thousands. and they make a fucking rooster in pants or a grass snake made of plants (clever, huh?) that has leaves for limbs (snake with limbs?). Wtf?
some of the legendaries are just obscenely out of scope for the actual material. This is a freaking trading card game people. it's just about becoming the master and defeating the elite for, and catching an training your pokepals. it shouldn't have to save the damn world, let alone the universe. think yu-gi-oh. pokemon is nearing that
And honestly, what little kid is gonna be DESTROYED by pokemon ending? There's so much pokemon, they won't miss potenial new bullshit, and will not care that it stopped. are you just devastated after you finally beat a really good game like half-life or something? your disappointed that its over but the ride was more then worth it.
Let it end for the sack of how undeserving the new shit is of its popularity
*facepalm*

Ok, so...you gave me NO reasons why it should end other than, again, you don't like how it is now. Also, in case you didn't know? I used "old fart" figuratively. Obviously people in their 50s and 60s don't give a crap about pokemon. My point is that you're acting like the elderly who complain about the "good old days" and how, oh no, things have changed now and damnit I don't like it!

And I said that the BEST that can happen is that kids will be upset. I didn't say destroyed, dear. I said upset. Here, let's try again: Can you give me a good, reasonable, legitimate reason for ending the show other than you don't like it anymore? Because obviously someone out there does. So it makes no sense for them to end it because a demographic that admits that they don't even watch it anymore doesn't like it. What's the sense in trying to appeal to an audience that doesn't support you?

Hell, I don't like it anymore either, and I grew up with it...I remember being 10 when it first came out. Then they changed it, it became silly, and guess what I did? I stopped watching it. And other kids picked it up and were happy. See how that works? Saying you should end the show because you don't like why it's popular is so ridiculous it hurts my brain.
