Recently I was talking to another Escapist user (lewism247) we were discussing the 'Metal Gear Solid' series of games. I said The first one on the PlayStation was the best and he said he would like to see it remade with better graphics.

Would you like to see old games brought back with up to date graphics? If so what game would you most like to see this done to?

I personally like playing MGS they way it its and wouldn't change the graphics even if I could.
I actually have the original MGS installed and ready to play because a mate told me I really should. The only thing that puts me off is the graphics so I share your pain.
I've been thinking about this for ages by the way. There are a few games I'd love to see remade with updated graphics.
Deus Ex is probably at the top of my list since it is my all-time favourite game.
Yeah, I'd love to see DeusEx with better graphics. While the are at it they could maybe improve the AI and Engine. Although that would probably change it too much.

Wasn't Square Enix going to remake FF7 with updated graphics? I wouldn't mind seeing that along with FF8 (although the CG cutscenes in that game were amazing, the gameplay character models weren't all that great). I'm not sure if that would take away the nostalgic feel the games have though.

The Twin Snakes is the first one re-made... Buy it and play it now. Its on gamecube.
I don't have a Gamecube. Anyway how did Nintendo gets rights to have it on one of there consoles?
There was a Nintendo development period. Besides the original Metal Gear games were on the NES!
yes but when it went to PlayStation for MGS Sony bought all rights it it so I am wondering how Nintendo got to do a re-make for Gamecube.
I played the NES originals, and I didn't like them all that much.
If I remember correct, Sony only got a certain level of rights over the game, I believe it may have been an exclusivity contract that generation, however they never bought the IP, and thus the games could be made for whatever machine anyone wished, hence theres an MGS game coming to 360 this round too.

Sony would have had rights to the original title's exclusivity, but as Konami owned the IP etc, they were well within thier rights to publish a remake on another system.

*nods* Ye, I get what you mean. Did I read correctly, MGS on 360? Could it really be?

As long as the gameplay remains mostly identical, I would love to see Crash 'n Burn remade, or Stuntman. Or Need For Speed : High Stakes.

I played way too many racing games back in the day.

The Metal Gear franchise isn't bound to one major company. That's why there's a Metal Gear game coming to 360 later.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Wii version of the first two Golden Sun Games. With re-made dungeons and stuff ... maybe some new abilities and stuff ... but it's all wishful thinking.

i say no because this will give publishers an excuse to not make new games.

No, I don't like remakes, very, very few actually earn their keep. In fact Resident Evil is the only one I acn think of that was genuinely worth paying full price for the same game again, because it wasn't the same game, not at all, it was effing fantastic.

I wouldlike to see a good sequel to Lylat Wars though, following the Lylat Wars format but with a hundred odd missions, thirteen or fourteen possible routes, a wider range of ships to fly and a more epic scale of space battles. Plus All Range Mode being taken in to vertical as well as horizontal.
Also, no on foot sections and the ability to replay missions without doing the whole story...

Sony didn't have an exclusive contract for any of the Metal Gears except 4. Solid is on PC and remade for Cube, 2 is on Xbox and pc, 3 and 4 are Playstation exclusives because the ports were relative flops.

All sorts of games should get the overhaul. A Link to the Past, MGS, a bunch of rpgs, Rock 'n' Roll Racing, Actraiser, Killer Instinct....and the list goes on.

A lot of games on the PC are modded to have better graphics, that's the beauty of gaming where anyone can be a dev.

I'm a huge fan of the MGS series but i wasn't crazy about Twin Snakes. I didn't think it added much to the original and the cutscenes were just awful. That part where snake double jumps of the missile fired by the Hind then fires the stinger in mid air nearly made me turn the game off. Ugh.

On the other hand I thought the Resident Evil remake, also on the Gamecube, was excellent. I liked the way they kept the core of the game and story but elaborated on it really well. New enemies, scenarios, bosses and characters. And I loved the way you could kill Barry and take his ridiculously overpowered magnum.

So basically I think that remakes/updates are a good idea... if done properly.

And I desperately want to play Black Mesa (the Half Life 1 update on Source) if I can ever get my hands on the damn thing

Shadow of the Colossus.

The graphics have definitely aged. You can't tell me that desolate wasteland and those colossi wouldn't just look lovely with a modern touch up.
Oh...oh my God...I think I might have a heart attack from the pure amount of awesome if that were to come out.
