The Twin Snakes is the first one re-made... Buy it and play it now. Its on gamecube.
I don't have a Gamecube. Anyway how did Nintendo gets rights to have it on one of there consoles?
There was a Nintendo development period. Besides the original Metal Gear games were on the NES!
yes but when it went to PlayStation for MGS Sony bought all rights it it so I am wondering how Nintendo got to do a re-make for Gamecube.
I played the NES originals, and I didn't like them all that much.
If I remember correct, Sony only got a certain level of rights over the game, I believe it may have been an exclusivity contract that generation, however they never bought the IP, and thus the games could be made for whatever machine anyone wished, hence theres an MGS game coming to 360 this round too.

Sony would have had rights to the original title's exclusivity, but as Konami owned the IP etc, they were well within thier rights to publish a remake on another system.
*nods* Ye, I get what you mean. Did I read correctly, MGS on 360? Could it really be?
Yep, another Raiden title I believe.

It depends on the game, but personally I'd be happy with new stuff.
Look at the gran tourismo series, it's just graphics upgrades over and over.

To get me to buy a remake there needs to be something else there other then shiney new graphics. Though an x-com re-release would make a liar out of me for the last statement.

I would love it if a developer like Valve or Bioware would take on the task of bringing us updated versions of Star Wars: Dark Forces, Dark Forces II, and Jedi Outcast. I loved these games tenderly in years previous but they have not aged very gracefully. Sure Lucasarts could give them a nice graphical update but their physics engines and the actual gameplay could use a facelift as well. Dark Forces was a damn good shooter for its time and the other two where "meh" shooters that you stuck with long enough to get a lightsaber so you wouldn't have to use the shitty guns anymore.

Hell, I would even have Bungie take a swing at it.

Eh, it really depends on the game.

Seeing something like The Ocarina of Time with current-gen graphics would be somewhat of a treat. Or it WOULD be if they hadn't already done that with Twilight Princess...

*cough*

ANYWAYS, but then you get games like Neverhood, or heck even shows like The Land of the Lost, where in a lot of their charm comes from the specific visual techniques that they used back then.

Slapping a bunch of expensive effects don't usually help out much. Just look at the new version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or the new "Transformers" movies...

I don't mind remakes of movies, if it is purely for technical reasons. If the filmakers are trying to make today's audiences capture the same feeling audiences had seeing the original thirty years ago, then it's okay. That's why I supported the special editions of Star Wars and the Peter Jackson King Kong.

The same goes for video games. The original Half-Life is my favorite game, and in 1998 it was at the cutting edge of game graphics. However, I can't play it now without the primitive look bothering me. That's why I'm highly anticipating the release of the Black Mesa mod.

The remakes that I hate include Americanized versions of foreign films (ie. Ring series, Infernal Affairs, Let the Right One In) and movies from twenty years ago (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street series).

Recently I was talking to another Escapist user (lewism247) we were discussing the 'Metal Gear Solid' series of games. I said The first one on the PlayStation was the best and he said he would like to see it remade with better graphics.

Would you like to see old games brought back with up to date graphics? If so what game would you most like to see this done to?

I personally like playing MGS they way it its and wouldn't change the graphics even if I could.

EDIT: Here is a Wiki link for MGS, in case anyone else likes to know pointless facts like I do;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid

it's probably been said a few tiems already now, but Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes is exactly that. A Gamecube port of MGS 1 with updated graphics and the FPS shooting added in. Granted shooting from first person takes out ALL the challenge on a particular boss fight (and I weep for those who only know his original fight because of that version . . .) but still, MGS has an updated version.

However, on Playstation there is ANOTHER game I'd like to see get a graphical update, Legend of Dragoon. What I would love to see is a PS3 remake of it, completely revamp the graphics to bring it's look up to speed, (this would also get rid of the 4 disc problem) but like any elitist oldie I'd want the story and battle system and dialouge to stay exactly the same (after all with winning lines such as "shut up, talking makes you die" how can you possibly WANT to change the lines?).

System Shock 2! Oh wait...

I wanna say I'd love mdk and planescape torment remakes, but in all honesty that would probably do more harm than good =-[

There was a project up on the dragon age mod page that was going to try and remake baldur's gate w/ the dragon age toolset. Nifty idea, but somehow I doubt it'll ever get done

I'd like to see some old RPGs be released again with nice, shiny, up to date graphics and maybe even a few additions. But things like Legend of Dragoon would just be cool to see updated.

Definitely for certain classics like Baldur's Gates, but others like FF7 I actually kind of like them for the nostalgia of their old-school graphics.

Cheeky bastard

another one i'd quite like to see done up is the suffering,of course add stuff to it but i think it'd be nice.

I'v seen people refuse to play games because of poor graffics
A friend of mine said he'd never played MGS because of the graphics being bad by modern standards... needless to say I forced him to play it through and now he doesn't care so much about graphics. He learned that great games do not need high quality graphics.
i also have a friend like that n i hav found that i cant stand playin some of the older stuff due to graphics myself. The gameplay may be brilliant, but they just dont seem as entertaining as they used to

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO FUCKING NO!

This comes up all the time.

Say we take a game, Goldeneye for the 64 in this case, and deck it out with the shiz graphics and all that neat stuff.

Now we have crap AI, Physics, Geometry, Controls, and Story with a coat of gloss paint.

Man, that sounds totally awesome. /sarcasm.

We don't need ANOTHER Metal Gear Solid remake. It was already remade for Gamecube. We also got to
experience Shadow Moses in Metal Gear Solid 4
.

If any Metal Gear should be remade, it should be the old 2D MSX2 Metal Gear games.

Ah yes very true. Though the NES releases actually had no involvement from Kojima himself. This is why the original had some tacked on intro in a jungle for some reason, and also why there is actually no Metal Gear boss fight. (I'm not joking). The 2nd one (Snake's Revenge) was a completely new game altogether, not canonical, and not Metal Gear 2 at all. So not really something to back your point on, but still valid.

OT: To be honest, I don't see the point in remakes that improve the graphics, unless the gameplay is also improved along with it via framerate improvements allowing better moves and such.

For example, remaking a 2D game into 3D is something I can see a point to, or adding extra moves to a character's roster, then yes.

In terms of just simply making games look shinier and smoother, no thanks.

The style of older games is what game them their atmosphere. The graphics, primitive they may be, are what I class as an art. I personally believe a lot of older games look so much better than so many of the modern games we have. They had colour, different environments, wacky characters. Nowadays all we get is brown/grey shooters with overly American steroided up douchebags (Yes I hate the graphics on Gears of war with an utter passion!).

Graphical remakes are a way of getting around lack of creativity. Fact.

i think the thing here is that the old classic games we love were absolutely brilliant because at the time they were the best around. If they ever remake the classics they would hav to up everythin about it, essentially makin a whole brand new game in the series... kinda pointless...

what they should do is make the classics available to be bought in bundle packs so you can still get them and play them (iv got an old win 95 game that refuses to work on xp)

What game is it? Just out of curiosity.
