Half Life was pretty good for me and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Then hen most likely I'd say Halo and CoD are bringing up the rear.

Where is the Quake love guys???
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most people posting here don't even know what Quake is or the impact that it had on the FPS genre.

I know there hasn't been a new Doom in quite a while, but it is the series that really started the fps genre. People still play it today using new and interesting mods, so it had and is still having a long run if you ask me.

Single player would be Perfect Dark.
The psychosis gun, farsight, slayer and laptop gun are fucking awesome.

Multi would be Team fortress 2.
No real need to explain that one.

Why in the fuck has nobody mentioned Perfect freaking Dark?!
Seriously? Nobody remembers the ONLY FPS that's better than Goldeneye?
Damn.
Right here, buddy.

Splitters by far. Fast and frenetic gameplay, a great sense of humour, creative and fantastically balanced.

Also split screen with mates cannot be beaten. Although Timesplitters has always been screaming out for some online team deathmatch capabilities.

Sigh...now I am sad because there is no Timesplitters 4. God damn you Freeradical/Crytek UK/Crytek!

I'd have to say Killzone 2! The graphics are jaw-dropping, the gameplay awesome, and the storyline epic! I've had enough of Call of Duty's bullshit... And my second and third favorite shooters would have to be Battlefield Bad Company 2, and then Battlefield 1943.

Going to make an unpopular decision and go with CoD. I've enjoyed every game since CoD4, and even the weakest game in the series (CoD3) was still worth playing.

My love for Conker's Bad Fur Day doesn't equal my combined love for CoD4, MW2, BlOps and (especially) WaW, so it's CoD.

EDIT:

Call of Duty: World at War is the greatest game of all time, so i'm going with Call of Duty.

Also, not to nitpick but the second "e" in GoldenEye should be capitalised. It's a truly unremarkable shooter these days though. No denying that it had a massive impact on the genre, but it's not even close to being the best 007 game, let alone the best FPS.
Holy shit, someone else loves WaW! I'm shocked! It's not my favourite game of all time, but definitely top 5.

For me it's Battlefield, especially Battlefield 2. The features are great and make teamwork mandatory to succeed which is a huge plus for me.
Bad company? If so can't say I don't agree. Its my favorite FPS.
Bad Company included but also just plain Battlefield. The PC exclusive version, which sets a lot of standards for PC-exclusive team-based first-person shooters but the console versions are fun too.

I'm glad to see Halo's got third place (ignoring the "other").

I didn't expect this Timesplitters thing to come second though, must be damn good. What platform is it on?

Series? Half Life, easily. Was the most fun for me, and I could tell that a lot of care went into it.

However, my favorite FPS game remains Medal of Honor Frontline. The Medal of Honor games weren't the best by any means, but that one was just a lot of fun overall, and had two of the most memorable missions in any game that I've played, Arnhem Knights taking the crown.
