Britain handles World Wars better than it does a bit of snow, eh at least no school.
led by GLORIOUS LEADER GORDON BROWN, would surrender faster than the french.
As the philosopher Jeremius Clarksonius once said about Brown

"[Brown] Is a one eyed Scottish idiot"

Slander, or statement of fact? you be the judge

we also have the same problems you brits do, public transport goes down especially trains because of worng materials and staff procedures. everything is running ok now but the weekend before christmas was chaos :D

most people dont even have snow tires but hell who blames them, this is the first winter with a lot of snow since 4 years and the last one was just for a few days.

greetings form the netherlands where every civilian lost confidence in the public transport department :p

Our work car park is thick with snow and I think I might have to buy a spade to get out to the main road, I almost got stuck. I heard on the news that people on the A3 (Hampshire) had to spend the night in their cars because they got stuck. The main roads near Guildford are solid though... for the time being :/

Snow doesn't bring my country to a standstill because I am an American: Snow however, does bring my state to a standstill. DC isn't accustomed to large amounts of snow. The 'Blizzard of 09' for instance [about 15in (38cm) of snow where I am] is something people from Chicago scoff at

I was supposed to have an exam at university yesterday, all of the students turned up, all of the invigilators turned up, and then we got a notice from the head of biomedical science saying that it is posponed due to snow. we now are having it next week, more revision time for us. but i was looking forward to getting it out of the way. it had barely started snowing, there was like half an inch on the ground. this country is pathetic. as for busses and cars, why don't they sell tire chains in this country for just such occasions?! makes me rage this country does.

It doesnt snow in Australia, its awesome, and like 40 drgreees Celcius here, waaay better than snow.

But if it did start snowing where i live, it would stuff up that many people, and a lot more things since it is the middle of summer...
That's not way better than snow. I hate our heat. I'm going to colorado to escape it, in fact....also to get some boarding in. Australia is shit, snowboarding is expensive and our mountains are shit.

I wish we got snow in winter, it would be awsome fun :(

*oohhh nooo, snoooowww, we need to close everything down!!!*

Screw that, It's now in the middle of the day (with no wind and no clouds *too cold for that*) and it's -22. So it's too cold to snow as well as ice. We even watched as parts of the ocean where we live close to the ocean, that it transforms to smoke *Ocean is hotter then the air, and this happens*

It's quite pretty to sit inside with a good book and a fire since it's so pretty outside, but it's still cold.
UK and other countries wasn't prepared for freak snowstorms so when it hit, this happens.
Good luck to you guys though.

Honestly you guys (the complaining ones) are rubbish!

Firstly the reason the UK is 'crippled' by snow is that it makes no sense for the government to spend so much money on things like snow tires and vast amounts of grit when they don't even know if it will snow. If it does then it probably costs less money to deal with the consequences of a few days of snow than it does to maintain all those precautions.

Secondly, are you all managers of businesses or something? Snow costs the country because business loses money when they have no staff in and can't transport things; do you care that much about businesses losing a few days of trading?

Honestly I would rather have a few days off and a bit of fun in the snow than the same monotonous work day 365 days of the year.

Over a foot of snow in my particular part of Greater Manchester, yet it wasn't all that cold..
I saw a bus on two wheels, that was funny.

And Grit? Seriously, we never have that up here, the way we clear the ice off the roads is to use them until the ice melts..

-22 celsius here, and snow up the arse. Get stuffed, you britons.

From what I assume, your country shuts down on snow because you don't have the stuff needed to keep roads/railroads/whatevers safe? Do you guys fit snow tyres during the winter, or have non-freezing diesel?
Well, because as a general rule it doesn't snow much, the majority of people don't have snow chains, and don't seem to know the garden twine trick. The trains shut down because we use electric trains; again, because it hardly ever snows it's not worth having diesel. The problem is when there's hard ice on the rails, especially the live rails: the trains just don't move.

On the roads, it's not really as big a problem as everyone likes to make out, provided that there's been decent gritting going on. At the moment we're running low on grit and salt, because we used it all in the last wave of snow, and that's screwing things over. Basically, we're not prepared for this amount of snow, because it's not normally this bad. Some snow is usual, several feet is not. We're a temperate island. Also remember that we're much more crowded than America or Scandanavian countries, or in face anywhere in Europe, really (for some reason everyone wants to live here; why's that if we're so terrible?), and this slows things down all the more when the snow hits.

Of course it would bring us to a stand-still, this is only the 2nd year this decade where we've had heavy snow. We're not prepared for it at all because it's so unexpected, and unless it became an annual weather condition there would be no point in preparing, as it would just waste everyone's money to buy snow chains, decent clothing and so on. Where the Government would have to buy large quantities of grit, and snow ploughs. I personally think it's good that this country comes to a halt for a few days of the year.

Ice and floods have been fucking us up in Ireland recently.

I dread to think of the two happening together...
We'll be getting that soon in England, as I work on the river I can't work even if there was no snow, and when the snow melts we'll be having some pretty bad floods. Where I live the waters' only 1ft from going over the river bank.

I live in Scotland and yeah things are grinding to a halt here, shops running low on bread and milk along with other things like meat and what have you slowly. I blame health and safety, used tobe you could walk a mile in the snow and no worries, now if you're not going out in snow shoes with a dog sled it's classed as unsafe.

A common joke in Denmark is that the national train company (DSB) look up in the sky every winter and yells out: "What the hell is this white stuff falling from sky?!!"

Delays and cancels abound every winter.

So yes we laugh at Britain, but also at ourselves.

I live in Canada, but I live in Vancouver, on the West Coast. There is not a single flake of snow on the ground right now, and we have had snow on the ground for about three days in total this winter.

Last year, there were several inches of snow, and it was fucking pandemonium.
Damn, you're lucky.

Where I live, there's snow up to my knees.
