no what one person likes might not be liked by another person a person who likes the COD series would say CODMW2 is a must play while my mother might say that Bejeweld is a must play

The only ones that could even come close are Super Mario Bros and Tetris, and even then it is disputed. So no.

There are games that you need to play to be current in intellectual discussions about gaming. Beyond that, no there are not "must play" games.

Like the Meat Circus in Psychonauts, you will try these AGAIN and AGAIN because you desperately want to finish them, despite them being some of the worst, most-forced, god-damn Nintendo hard sequences ever.
That segment made me stop playing the game. Literally, I just gave up. Great game, and that was the last part, and I just couldn't fucking do it.

Then you shall never know the true ending...or the conclusion to the love story...

I'm going to replay it. One of these days. If I can find it. Somewhere in...THE DARK ROOM. And there is always Youtube. Besides, the main plot was boring, the star of Psychonauts was the worlds and characters.

Yes, I would say indefinitly that there are a handful of games out there that everyone should try. I would reccomend the following: Fallout 3, TES 3 Morrowind, TES 4 Oblivion, the Half Life series, Portal, a Total War series game, and Team Fortress 2 (provided you have high-speed internet).

Must Play:

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy XII for the PSP
Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hands for the GBA

Yeah, the second one is kind of rare but it's damn well the best GBA game ever made.

Armored Core. Best combination of mecha and high-speed combat ever.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Digimon World for the PS1. Even if you're not a fan of Digimon or the PlayStation, that game just had so much content and such an unusual combat system (you just guided your Digimon's AI in battle, rather than give him direct orders a la Pokémon, although if you made him smart enough, you could unlock very specific orders like attacks. Whether he followed your orders was also determined by certain factors).
definately digimon world 1 i used to love that game

OT:probably shadow of the colossus or psychonauts

Portal, Resident Evil 4, at least one 3-D Zelda game, and the classic Super Mario brother games (And I do mean in all their forms) of course.
