I was out of line. I interpreted his post incorrectly. Please excuse my ignorance.
You have my respect, sir.

I will take that in mind.NeutralDrow said:I'm going to be very, very interested if and when this question gets asked in five years. Why? Two reasons.
One, Japan has a ton of old people. Old people tend to be conservative, but Japan's youth are growing up in a steadily more cosmopolitan country. As the older generations start dying off, certain visible aspects of the culture are going to shift.
Two, Japan has a ton of old people, compared to young people. As such, they're starting to rely more on immigrant labor. And if the whole "build a fence along the Mexican border" shenanigans here in the U.S. are stupidly entertaining, I can't wait to see what happens with "Brazilians and Filipinos are staying past their work visas."

Think of it this way, in America we watch Bob Barker or Pat Sayjack and have big ass wheels
In Japan you have to jump through holes shaped in a moving wall
I am up for going anywhere on the planet because i love to travel and on my list of places to go Japan makes the top 10
yea but do we have the game show where you have to play human tetris?funksobeefy said:It gets just as pretty anywhere in the statesNeutralDrow said:Go in early April when you do. <url=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2059/2368966912_f9504e5839.jpg>It's really pretty.
Not where I live. We don't have that many flowers in Spring, but we have lots of forest. That's why I like Fall. All the trees turn orange, red, yellow etc. It looks really nice.Internet Kraken said:It gets just as pretty anywhere in the statesfunksobeefy said:NeutralDrow said:Go in early April when you do. <url=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2059/2368966912_f9504e5839.jpg>It's really pretty.
Actually, it only gets that particular type of pretty in Washington DC (stupid cherry trees don't do well in California, probably because we have the audacity of having 2% humidity all the time). We got some pretty scrubland where I live, but I really miss the greenery in central Japan.funksobeefy said:It gets just as pretty anywhere in the statesNeutralDrow said:Go in early April when you do. <url=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2059/2368966912_f9504e5839.jpg>It's really pretty.
I was actually surprised that most of the trees in my area had white blossoms (like the ones in that picture)...but then, the white ones are harder on the eyes, so yeah. ^_^Internet Kraken said:Not where I live. I would hate it if all the trees turned bright pink. Color like that hurts my eyes.
I LOVE the time around Ogata renkyu... there is nothing I love more when I get to visit friends around that time, or when I was living there as a child.. going down to Osaka Castle, and having a picnic and watching the Sakura... Osaka has a wonderful Hanami festival...though at the time I was in Nara, but mom would pack us up and we would hit a train and make our way out for the day...NeutralDrow said:Go in early April when you do. <url=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2059/2368966912_f9504e5839.jpg>It's really pretty.
Lucky. The one time I was there for Golden Week, I still had class a couple of days. Didn't stop a bunch of people from skipping, but I was having enough trouble as it was... ^^;Matronadena said:I LOVE the time around Ogata renkyu... there is nothing I love more when I get to visit friends around that time, or when I was living there as a child.. going down to Osaka Castle, and having a picnic and watching the Sakura... This illustrates something that I've experienced first-hand: A given government doesn't necessarily speak for its people. Just because a few jerk-ass politicians refuse to acknowledge that something happened, that doesn't necessarily mean that the rest of the people feel the same way.Flying-Emu said:Really. Do you think the average Japanese person denies the Rape of Nanking?

I remember how pretty Todaiji was.. Only when I was in Nara as a child did I ever see the sakura...since I've grown up, I've been to the temple countless times when I was studying for my Jukai, but I always hit it late june/ early july, havent spent much time there as most of my friends left Nara for Osaka, Kyoto...you know, get away from the ever watching eyes of parents.NeutralDrow said:Lucky. Still, through sheer coincidence the three weeks my parents visited me while I was studying abroad happened to be smack in the middle of cherry blossom season. We never got as far as Osaka, but the cherry blossoms at Todaiji were great (certainly made up for the deer, who were right in the middle of shedding season), and downright spectacular everywhere in Kyoto (and in Ueno). Also, I arrived in autumn, so I was caught completely off-guard when every single tree near my dormitory turned out to be white-blossomed sakura!
I only live about an hour from DC and I've never been to the Cherry Blossom Festival, and that's very, very sad. I visited once about a week after the "official" festival had ended, though, so I managed to pick up a souvenir mug. (Too bad the word "Blossom" was misspelled, so it actually said "Cherry Bloosom Festival"...)NeutralDrow said:Actually, it only gets that particular type of pretty in Washington DC (stupid cherry trees don't do well in California, probably because we have the audacity of having 2% humidity all the time). Luverly! I saved both of those. The last time I was in Japan was when my dad was stationed there, and I was only three years old at the time so I don't remember a bit of it. I've just got a few souvenirs, like a deck of hanafuda cards and a wall scroll.Matronadena said:not the one drow had, but some good ones...dantheman931 said:Nice pic.
