The U.S. isn't preventing access to the information, but it is considered not as essential in history classes. As far as I know, it isn't really in the tests. Did your teacher tell you guys or did you learn it from a standard textbook?

I mean that the Chinese government commits atrocities that are no less horrifying to this very day. I do not think that the rape of Nanking is as you put it 'ok'. I am not condoning these horrors in any way shape or form. However, it is in the past, as the dropping of said atomic bombs, as is the Holocaust. It was part of war. I no more blame the modern Japanese for Pearl Harbor than I do the modern Germans for World War II. Were you even born when the Massacre of Nanking was going on? As it stands now, Japan has a strictly defensive military.

It's the fact that they had killing contests, raping contests, murdered millions and yet claim to only have killed a few thousand. And the fact that it is the government in power still, and is trying to pretend that it didn't happen.
Germany apologized for what it did, and Hitler died along with his fascist regime. The same has happened with most other countries throughout history (though arguably not with the U.S. and its policies on Native Americans throughout the years, something other countries are so quick to remind us of).

though across the world to be perfectly fair, I have seen the same game played with other nations/cultures/pop cultures.

It's sorta a riot in the same way when you see a pop culture movement by " mostly" teens and younger adults to emulate being American, or UK... buying any and all clothing trends, music, trying to use slang native to said nation, etc basing all knowledge of that emulated nation off pop culture.


so on that level it's not really a " japan pop" thing there are mirrored versions of the same thing from all over.
