I really, really enjoyed KotOR, but Mass Effect was my first. It'll always have a special place in my heart. But I love them both.

Kotor 1 was an amazing game, I believe it has a better story than ME 1 and 2. However, Mass Effect is shaping up to be an awesome trilogy, and there's much better potential. Also, Mass Effect is actually going to finish it's story. I'm waiting impatiently for The Old Republic, but it's still kind of dissappointing that the Kotor series is going to an MMO before they actually finish the Kotor storyline.

KoToR. First Xbox game I bought, and still one of my favorite RPGs to this day.

I like Mass Effect, but both games play completely differently to me. And in the end, I prefer KoToR's gameplay more. It was also significantly longer to me.

1. Versus threads are frowned upon.

2. I prefer Mass Effect. It felt a lot more open-ended, and the choices actually felt like they carried some weight.

Mass Effect is great, but KOTOR is what got me interested in Bioware's games to begin with. With KOTOR us Star Wars fans finally got what we were cheated out of in the prequels; a story so engaging that it rivals that of The Empire Strikes Backs' (search your feelings, you know it to be true!). On top of that it has gameplay which is both fantastic and immersive; somehow toeing the line between turnbased and action RPG without being too much of either. KOTOR will forever be one of my favorite games and while Lucas Arts shelled out plenty of fantastic Star Wars titles in the 90s, KOTOR was the last great Star Wars game as we haven't seen anything that quite compares with it since (Yes I enjoyed KOTOR 2 but we all know the story was lacking).

Here's hoping that someday we once again get another Single-player Star Wars experience as visceral and dynamic as KOTOR was.

I think KoToR is most similar to Dragon Age: Origins. When i played DA, i was more reminded of KoToR then ME. Which i thought was awesome. still prefer the universe of ME to the Star Wars one. Bioware Created their own universe instead of borrowing somebody elses idea. Both of which i am ok with. But i prefer creation of an original universe. Not many other games do that.

If we're talking about Mass Effect 1 versus KotOR, then KotOR all the way. But, if I can include Mass Effect 2, then Mass Effect takes it.

ME2's my favourite game of all time, without question.

Still, I wish they were making KotOR 3 (a real KotOR 3) - I reckon a modern KotOR with the presentation, graphics and refined gameplay (adapted to be better suited to the Star Wars Universe, of course) of Mass Effect 2 could steal back the crown.

Gotta go with Mass Effect because of the new universe. I had already seen all that there was to see in Star Wars, but everything in Mass Effect was new and strange. Also, KOTOR 2....eh, so much badness.

P.S. Can someone please tell me how KOTOR 2 ended? I finished it, but I don't really feel like the story was over. Maybe I missed something.

I loved KotOR but to be honest I'm well aware that most of my love for it now is good old nostalgia seeping in. Mass Effect is fresh in my mind and I love it even more, so really it's no contest.

Not to say KotOR wasn't good, because it was fantastic, hell I was probably the only guy in existence who didn't hate anyone in his party. The only part in the whole game I genuinely disliked was that stupid Rancor on Taris.
