Poll: Modern pistol or revolver?

Really... it is hard to choose when you think about it. Both have very good strong points, each unique to the style of weapon. Revolvers are more reliable, tend to carry more penetration even with smaller rounds and are more safer to carry. Yet at the other end of the table modern 'pistols' have a greater rate of fire and carry more rounds per magazine. Practicality leans me towards modern handguns though.

Then there is history, these two things sway my head just as much as practicability! If a handgun has a certain history to it, and I don't mean reputation as being a penis enlarger but a real history, then I am going to be swayed more to purchasing it. A WW2 era revolve carried on the battle field is more likely to mean something more to me then a freshly minted revolved coming off the assembly line, even if made as a replication of a real WW2 weapon.

Also I can't go past a good looking weapon... this doesn't mean gold plated, it means actual style!

PS: For those who want hand cannons... I laugh at your penis size! No, really I do laugh at you but maybe not for your penis. Hand cannons are just pure Hollywood bullshit! Even countries that make them do NOT use them for their military for a simple reason: They are just too damn heavy, have a far limited ammo capacity, are to noisy/bright and have way to much recoil.

They tend to use much more compact, lighter and just as deadly side arms and if they need higher penetration and range... hey that is what the rifle is for! Also, just to point out, for home defence or competition shooting a smaller handgun is still far superior to a hand cannon.

What would the Welrod come under?
It's just so British and cool!
That is possibly the most ghetto low-tech firearm I've ever seen in my life.

Oh wait, a Welrod? Hm, thought they were bigger (in a sense)

I'm not a gun person either, but since I watched Trigun, if there's any weapon I would choose, it's the Mateba Autorevolver. It fires from the Six O'Clock chamber instead of the 12:

That's not a revolver, that's a fucking anti-aircraft gun.
You think that's an anti-aircraft gun? Wait until you see the bigger version of it.
Doomsday weapon?
See for yourself.

Well next time I want to punch a hole through a bloody country, I'll hire him.

Handgun. A CZ-75 or a Glock is just as reliable as a revolver if you use halfway decent ammo but lets you shoot 3 times as many zombies before having to reload. Reloading takes a lot less time too.

A revolver, of course. You can't go Dirty Harry on someone without a revolver.

Pistols in video games are always weak. But revolvers are usually mini-cannons. In real life though I love revolvers, the whole feel of them makes me feel like an assassin.

I'm not really a gun person, but given the choice I'd go with the old fashioned Revolver. There's something about the classics.

I wouldn't mind being a cowboy, so I'd like two of these:

I'd then get two holsters to go on my thighs and spin the guns everytime before putting them away.

I would be awesome.

This ate my post!
Sighs, damn Router...

I won't retype it out just now, but I laughed at all the hand cannons and insulted those who want them for having small penises and no common sense.

In short I look for three things in a gun: Style, history and practicality. This makes it hard when you are tossing up revolvers and automatic handguns. Practicality means automatic handgun of course but style and history often sides with revolvers. Been around longer, seen more world events and been fired in a few of them too, so understandable more chance of finding one with said history.

And for those wondering about style something more along the lines of:

That is style. Anyone can whack a gold coat onto a gun, but that doesn't make it look good. Also there have been other examples of style that highlight just how beautiful firearms can be.

For looks I would go with the revolver but for effectiveness (ammo capacity and what not) I would go with the pistol. As far as the poll goes, looks won.

Glocks are massively For The Win, and utterly agreed about their underestimated reliability. A lot of people pay little or no heed to the ammunition side of things which in a Semi Auto case is always a mistake I feel. It's worth investing time and attention into your ammo. Always.

This comes entirely down to what the situation calls for.

Compact practicality - Magazine pistols
Bulky POWER - Revolver

Well since I am a gun person and I'm planning on getting my concealed weapons license I'm going to have to go with this. (The civilian version of course)

Amazing handgun.

I'd take a modern pistol, because because they can be silenced.

And slipping into the shadows and taking out a group is definitely more my style.

Both have their own aesthetic charm: Revolvers have a classical, cool feel that makes you want to fire one handed down the iron sights, while modern pistols have an authoritarian feel (Mainly Deagle) where you shoot two handed police style. Yes I do live near a gun range.
When I think hard about it, I prefer the classical style of the revolver.
