I'd have to go with the second generation of starters... I always wanted to choose the fire starter, because traditional logic states that Fire Pokemon are in short, SHORT supply... but I always chose Chikorita... just because it's adorable :3

Bulbasaur because he had no weaknesses in gyms until the 7th, by that point you could have loads of extra pokemon that could crush that gym
or you could just use water types all around the place! anything with surf usually did that!

Lt Surge could kick your arse, I suppose you could have pokemon ready for then but by the 7th gym you have loads of choice

A while back, I'd have sad 2nd gen, but now I think the first.

As for starters, I always without fail, pick the fire one.

First generation all the way! On the second they were able to introduce new cool pokemons... now it's just sad in my opinion.... Lack of imagination.

First Pokemon was a Charmander! When he got to Charizard I was SO excited.

Because weaknesses and strengths aside... he is a f***in Dragon and has a sweet evolution =D that was why I ended up choosing him at least, that and I was a 8 year old that was hoping on the Pokemon Band Wagon

Don't quite understand what you are trying to say. They're being remade anyway, so I'll maybe pick one up.

My Typhlosion was always the strongest, mostly because I was a kid and had no idea what having a "balanced team" meant. Just used him on goddamn everything. Type effectiveness just ceases to matter when your pokemon's overpowered enough.

Later when I tried out Emerald, I chose Torchic/ Blaziken. Fire chicken just seemed cool.
Playing Fire Red, chose charmander, because I was playing FIRE red, and thought that just fit.

With Diamond, I deviated from the norm and chose piplup, cause penguins are cool. And empoleon looks like he's dressed for a wedding. (On another note, diamond was also the first one I played as a girl, cause at least she had style. The guy had a beret. And I'll be damned when I play a guy in a beret that's not green.)

The E.V. points system in the more recent pokemon generations is stupid, it just forces you to hack the game or spend Preposterous amounts of time to get a good party together

Generation 2 are the best. The only ones (with the exception of Blastoise) that're single-typed to the end.

But altogether, it goes:
Typhlosion
Meganium
Charizard
Feraligatr
Blastoise
Venusaur
Everything else
