This is the second week of the course, if it doesn't have to do with histrograms I don't know about it
Histograms get boring quite quick.

I've taken stats, and apparently I did poorer than my grade suggested. What is return bias? Also, what other problems did you find with my poll? Other than being limited to 8 options and being unable to poll for transsexuals, of course.

As for me, I found the number of bisexual males to be surprising.
Return bias is like so: If I conducted a study by asking people to respond to a survey online about X topic, then only those who feel compelled to answer answer it. Since you could not get results from all of your randomly chosen sample, the results you get could be heavily untrue. Such as a news program conducting a survey much in the same way as above (my local station does this a lot) about gun control. Two kinds of people will respond; People who feel strongly about gun control, and people who feel strongly about gun freedoms. That middle amount that didn't respond also had feelings on gun control, but they did not collect those. Because the middle amount didn't respond the results are not representative of the whole population.

Bi guy here. I've happily had fun with people of both genders, s'all good stuff.

When I clicked the poll, I was surprised for a second at just how low the non-straight options were polling, but actually looking at the numbers there definitely seems to be quite a few. Good to see.

So I take it from the poll this place is almost exclusively straight men.

Where all the ladies be at?! :(
After I read that and looked at your avatar my first thought was it's a pirate with a harpoon gun!

And then I realized it was vault boy.

I'd have thrown it in there, but transsexual peoples have many diverse sexualities, and I seeing as we only had 8 options AND you could only choose one, I had to nix getting specific demographics on transexuals.
Yeah, this was more just to specifically point out the contrast with the statement you had quoted about numbers in such a small community, not so much to like, bash you for not including us. I voted, BTW. I'm not trying to be bitchy OR pedantic, but it slightly astonished me how many are here.

So yeah.
I wouldnt have liked to be listed seperately. My gender identit and my sexual needs are female and I'm only interessted in guys, that makes me straight and female. Me being transgender is something that doesnt have to do with those things, its just a misfortune of chromosomes to me and therefor a physical thing.
BUT, given the number of women is actually quite small, it would be very interressting to see how many are trans and how many are cis. I've already noticed a few others here, soo... I wonder what that means for gamer culture

I'll say it again. Not. My. Point.

Look, I shouldn't have to explain this 300 different times. He mentions the LGBTQ community, of which the "T" refers to "trans." So I offered another "T" word, a "tangential" but related "topic" in terms of existence of such a minority on these boards (which honestly, was part of the topic in the first place; the presence of minorities on such a "small" board).

The fact that there has been any reply to this at all puzzles me, as I'm not looking for specific inclusion. I am instead commenting on a specific portion of the topic creator's post and the application of the phrase LGBTQ (or whatever insulting spinoff was originally used, I don't care enough to check).

End of. It's nice that you don't want your gender identity counted, but I never actually suggested it should be, or said I wanted it to. I simply spoke to the nature of a minority within said community being quite prevalent on this board.

Pardon the redundancy, but it seems it didn't work the first time.

Toi be fair, you take how much crap the average woman gets in gaming, take how much crap the average homosexual gets in gaming, multiply them, and I'd be surprised to see more than a handful at any gaming site.

Whilst that is kind of true, I'd still expect there to be more gay women than trans gamers. But from personal experience, gay men seem to be on the receiving end of more predjudice than gay women. How that translates to the interwebs is another matter.

Also 'other' does cover a few bases, so maybe there are just a few furries out there? If they consider themselves 'other' that is.

Straight male, maybe a little bit bicurious, due to being probably the most sexually inexperienced member of my friend group and...well, clue's in the name, I'm curious about the wider world of sex. I'm 17, btw. And virgin. Got a shitload of fetishes. Mainly have sexytimes with my hand.

Oh, I knew about that, just under a different name.

Anyways, I believe that I did a pretty good job of minimizing that form of bias, (EDIT) considering that my target population was regular users of the Escapist.

My gender identity is not trans, thats not an idtentity, more a sort of physical condition. Like I said, my gender identity is simply female. The numbers of transfolk are just too small to have a functioning own group, otherwise it should be seperate from LGB.
This sorta calls for a poll about exact gender, there we could choose from, cisfemale and -male, transfemale and - male and queer. Only trans would als not be enough actually, not every transgender is also transsexual or has gender dysphoria.
Thats getting quite complicated there. I'm starting to feel pressured to make a spinoff thread here...

I guess this little discussion came up cause LGBTQ is a sum of things that dont fully belong together, one being gender related, the other being about sexuality.
