People are underestimating blu-ray. It's not JUST higher quality. It means MORE space. So more bonus features, more content.

Working in a gaming store, the hardest thing to hear is "What do you recommend on the PS3?"

I know the system has potential. It will probably dominate the market like the PS2 thanks to longevity. But the thing to understand is, you have to wait. Sony does not have its shit together. When it gets it together, look out. But this is too big a thing, and they are in too big a hurry to make some black on the books.

If Sony wants to start getting decent games on the system, and working out all the problems that they should never have launched with, then hell yes, get a PS3. It's going to have double the life span of the 360, and will give the Wii a run for it's money. (My theory being that eventually third-party developers will better understand Wii controls)

But if you're going tomorrow? Buy something else.

Let's be civil now. The PS3 is undoubtedly the most expensive of the 3, but you get more for the buck.

1. You get BADASS hardware that ass-rapes the 360 and Wii even if they merged into one entity.
2. The SIXAXIS functionality doesn't intrude on gameplay like the Wiimote does with most games, and the battery life is fair for average use in a week. (I estimate 1 1/2 on and off before you ever need to recharge it)
3. PSN (PlayStation Network) is completely void of whiny brats who only exist to make your ears bleed with their high voices and incoherent swearing.
4. You can legally download old PS1 games for anywhere between 5-15 dollars, and download free demos of upcoming PS3 games, in addition to playing old legit PS1 copies where the PS2 fails (referring to disc-related damage).
5. Supports up to 7 controllers for split-screen playing.
6. While big games need to be pre-installed before playing (no less similar to PC games) this cuts back on load times when you actually play them.
7. Super-sensitive controls, particularly the analog sticks (not sure what people think about the "marshmallow" R2/L2 buttons, they work finely for me anyway).

Need I say more?

What's with all these damn people racking down on the PC all of a sudden? You really need to learn to buy your hardware through your company or just from the right places. Also, anyone who says that a shooter is 'better' on 360... had better check up on just what the heck their criteria and definitions are. I'm tempted to tell them to suck something unnameable, but I'll at least give a show of wanting to inspire some intelligent discussion here, even if it is with the UNintelligent.

Come on. It's all about being smart, damnit. Who says you can't use a "24 or "26 monitor for a PC? There's a whole selection of good ones out there. Even the better not-quite-top-of-the-range graphics cards come cheap and can be dual linked these days, ever heard about that? Or about dual- or quad-core processors? DDR3? You don't have to put out a shitload of money for this stuff. Just more than the average basement-dweller is used to. And really, if you whine because you need to 'hunker down' in front of your PC, you'll sound stupider than the bag of bricks you should be carrying for your day job. You want a tip? Here's one: Get a chair and a table that fit your screen/keyboard/mouse setup!

Having said that, yes, I think you should buy a PS3. There are the exclusive titles, free online, excellent hardware and all that which stand in favor of this decision. You don't -have- to use the damn Blu-ray. On a more personal, emotional note, -I- would choose it for the controller and because Wipeout HD is coming for it.

If you're interested in Blu-ray, then yes. It's still one of the best deals around in a Blu-ray player, and of course you get much more in the bargain.

If you're not, I don't think the game selection is quite up to par with the competition.

NO! This has turned into a war torn battle field! RUN AWAY.

Though for the people who side stepped, good for you (you know who you are)

I still suggest to wait for more games you're interested in, and maybe some bundles.

I had a enough money saved up to get either a 360 or PS3, and I was never convinced about the PS3. There was just something about it that put me off (maybe I couldn't get my head around the claim of 4D graphics?!) & something that told me it wouldn't be as fun as my PS2.
Plus I had 3 PS2's die on me with no help from Sony, so I wasn't going to risk that happening when spending PS3 amounts of money..
I dunno, I think i've heard of "4D" graphics before. It's not what I think you might mean (I.E. an extra dimension) but I can't quite recall what 4D is. I know i've heard it before, just don't know where. Maybe there's a Wiki-article on it...

Oh come on, there is never more than an hours worth of interesting extras on a DVD, with the rest being incredibly dull. If you honestly have ever thought "You know what this film could use? More 'making of' documentaries" then you have a twisted sense of entertainment.

If I had done that, I would have got shit because no one wants to see the PS3's list of exclusives. I take it he's excited for Yu-Gi-OH unleashed?

Frankly, I don't think you should buy anything until you bring your grades up mister.

Post your report card, then we can discuss.

So two wrongs make a right?

If you hadn't mocked him for constructing a proper argument then no one would have. It seemed like the appropiate moment to post a list; his only other option would be to say "Nu-uh", to which you would've replied to with "Ya-huh", and back and forth it would go. And no you wouldn't have got shit for posting a list of exclusives; it is about as important to the central argument and the original post as possible. I certainly wouldn't have mocked you, and obviously anyone who would is not worth caring about.

I would say don't get one. Yes I could play the 'controller is crap' argument or the 'sixaxis is even worse' argument what is all fiar, and I agree with totaly. But In my opinion, the game lineup for PS3 isn't that impressive. People say it has MGS 4, I thought that was terrible, just step back and look at the plot in front of you. Resistance, yes will probably be good.

But when I look at the 360's line up I'm more excited about it because.. Well to me the games coming out for it appeal to me.

Dude forget all the specs and stuff, think about what games you like, and what consle offers the best play time for them.

As I'm an FPS fan, obviously, its 360 for me.

As for Blu Ray. It makes a huge difference if you've got the right TV for it. Unfortunately the feature also makes the ps3 weaker as a games console. You know those long ass installs the ps3 needs to ensure loading times match the 360? (anyone who's played MGS4 can now sigh heavily and take another shot) They're all the Blu Ray baby. Huge storage space but info access times that make a retarded turtle with gammy leg look like Usain Bolt.

...seriously? Honestly, that's the first time I've heard something bad about it (well, an overall negative opinion on it anyway) from someone who played it all the way through.

Huh.

And there are plenty of good games, and more coming out. Don't believe the bull.

As I recall, and I think I'm paraphrasing from Dr Who here, the 4th dimension is time. So every game is 4d because every game actually obeys the laws of time.

What line up? Beyond three games coming out this Christams (One of which is likely to be crap and spit upon everything anyone ever liked about the original, and one of which is now looking disturbing) what games do they have that are concretely set? Besides Huxley (which I think suffers from a bad case of the Goldeneye: Rogue Agents, since it doesn't have a thing to do with the breathtaking Brave New World), and Forza 3, it has absolutely no exclusives.
Yes, but let me tell you about something I like to call "Sony syndrome". Now ocassionally I will see a PS3 or PS3/PC exclusive, and think "wow, that looks neat". For example, The Agency. And then I will forget about it. Then I will drift back, months later, to whatever gaming website it is, and see another video for it. And suddenly I will realise it's not out yet despite me having seen it almost complete ages ago.

Another example is when someone was boasting about Gran Turismo... 5, I think, I don't really care. I made a sarcastic comment about how long it would be before it was out, to which he rebuked "No, it's coming out next week". I was startled, until I found out the real information: the Gran Turismo Prelude, essentially an overhyped demo, was coming out in a month. It would be another year or so before someone got their hands on the full thing.

My point is, and feel to give a billion and one examples of why I'm wrong, due to the shorter development time, there could be a whole bunch of games coming out reasonably soon (Spring 2009) which aren't sufficiently mainstream to be mentioned yet. I wouldn't bet on it, but I wouldn't ignore the possibility.

Come to think of it, since most games the PS3 is getting are coming out over the winter holidays, you probably won't be getting anything else until 2010.
