Poll: Should I Buy A PS3?

I still suggest to wait for more games you're interested in, and maybe some bundles.

I had a enough money saved up to get either a 360 or PS3, and I was never convinced about the PS3. There was just something about it that put me off (maybe I couldn't get my head around the claim of 4D graphics?!) & something that told me it wouldn't be as fun as my PS2.
Plus I had 3 PS2's die on me with no help from Sony, so I wasn't going to risk that happening when spending PS3 amounts of money..

I dunno, I think i've heard of "4D" graphics before. It's not what I think you might mean (I.E. an extra dimension) but I can't quite recall what 4D is. I know i've heard it before, just don't know where. Maybe there's a Wiki-article on it...

As I recall, and I think I'm paraphrasing from Dr Who here, the 4th dimension is time. So every game is 4d because every game actually obeys the laws of time.

Sidestepping the inevitable if not already in progress war going on...

I don't know, I know i've heard of 4D graphics before. I used to think that 4D meant that you have 3 dimensions plus something that makes you feel literally in the screen like your chair rumbling and moving to the spaceships movements or something similar.

I know i've heard of it before, and it's not with time and stuff, I just can't remember. But I HAVE heard of it before.

Well if you read the subject I'm sure you get the basic idea of what this thread is about. I've been quite content with just my 360 up to now but it seems that the PS3 is finally going to be getting some really good exclusive titles that I want to get my hands on. But I can't seem to decide if it's worth it or not.

First off is the money issue. I'm looking at getting a 40gig HD used PS3 from Gamestop which normally comes to about $350, however, I have a bunch of trade in credit there and could get it for about $140, add $60 for a game and $20 for the HD cables (Correct me if I'm wrong but I was told it doesn't come with those) and it's about $220. This isn't bad considering what it normally costs, but it's still a lot of money to me.

Second is games. Until Little Big Planet comes out (Which I can't wait to get) I'm gonna want something else to play on it, and I can't seem to fine any games out now for the PS3 that seem worthwhile or that I don't already have or have had for 360. Can anyone suggest any games?

Third thing is Blu-ray. I've never actually seen anything in Blu-ray before and I was basically just wondering if it's all it's cracked up to be.

And finally is the backwards compatibility. The 40 gig version doesn't have any, which sort of annoys me because I still have some great PS2 games I'd love to play again. So all in all I'm basically trying to decide if it's worth it.

Anyone have any other pros or cons related to the PS3 that might help me decide?

I'd say wait till you ahve money for a 80gb PS3. Backwards compatibility is a must!!!!

ps3 is way better, no monthly/yearly subscription required for online gaming, an internet browser, bluetooth, and the fact that home and littleBIGplanet are coming soon, and all the other exclusives are better than 360s and even gears isn't going to be an exclusive anymore, they're remaking it for the ps3, and resistance 2, has anyone else seen the splicer? that gun is badass, i mean, sawblades that get stuck in enemies and continue to spin, thats pretty hardcore, anyway, ps3 pwns, 360 is ok, and you should buy the ps3 if you have the money

If you want a suggestion of some exclusives to look at, I'd suggest Resistance 2 (I still hope they'll give it the tagline United We Fall, but whatever), Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (while not much heed is being paid to it, it actually does sound pretty good. A wide range of destrctibility along the tracks, differing vehicle forms that vary more than simply alternate skins, and some very nice looking graphics. Not game of the year material, but could be a solid title), Resistance: Fall of Man, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword (its almost criminally short, so maybe you should only rent, but most who've played it agree that it is brilliant), Metal Gear Solid IV (to continue the list of titles where girls continue to kick ass and prove themselves just as good as men - that makes 3), and Warhawk.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've played a few of those and I'll definately look into the others.

For Backwards compatability, I'm not sure, but I don't think they have plans to bring that back any time soon. But if you have Ps2 games lying around, wouldn't you logically already have a fully fuctional Ps2?

No...My PS2 broke a year or so ago because my brother is a moron and I was foolish enough to let him get near my things. I never got around to buying another one because I already had my 360 so I didn't really see a point. I still have a few games though, the really great ones that I didn't want to trade in.

Okay, first rule about analysts is never belive anything they say until the result has happend. That "prediction" is utter bullshit, don't believe it. Gears could come to PS3 (assuming it's not 2nd/1st party) but don't automatically assume it will happen because some stupid analyst says so. Remember, these are the people who say "Pc/Console gaming is dieing" and all that bull.

Though if it does come to PS3 (which I'm not saying it will! Nor is there a high chance it will!) that's one win for me atleast.

Honestly, the games are the main thing if ye ask me. I don't have one (in fact, all I have is this PC), but if you're trying hard to decide, think about what you're getting. For me, if I'm considering it, it's;

Ratchet and Clank
Metal Gear
Beyond Good and Evil 2*
Bioshock 2*
God of War 3
RE5*
SH5*

This I would buy, regardless what I think of it (I'm looking to R&C and BGAE2, but not so much SH5 or God of War 3). And of course, some games are meant to be for the PC...

The second thing (I haven't been through everything, please forgive me) is what else you have. Do you have another console or a good PC? Would you get one if you don't buy a PS3?

For me, my roommate is looking to bring his 360 to our dorm, so I'll at least get some (the ones that are marked *). But I'm still obsessed with Ratchet and Clank, even after all this time, and I love (mostly) Metal Gear's verbal diarhoea, so I still want it.

Yes, you seem to enjoy the playing style of the Ps2, as far as I can tell, so it is likely you will enjoy the Ps3. There are some features here and there, but the main thing is that you might enjoy what the Ps3 has to offer. If you're content with what you got though, don't buy it unless you can spend extra money on something people will consider more of a luxury.
