It's everywhere else and the human body is something we all possess. For that reason, it should stop being taboo and it should stop being demonized.

Like anything else, it's all about context, context, context.

The topless cabaret dancers in Pandemic's 'The Saboteur', perfect example of nudity done right. It's in a French cabaret, so it's location and use is tied to the plot. Could the main character have just as easily been based out of a tavern, garage, or restaurant? Sure, but they did at least have a plausible reason for using the cabaret instead. Better yet, the dancers being topless is an option, if you don't like it, turn if off and all of the dancers now have pasties instead of bare nipples. Both work within the context of the setting, and neither breaks immersion.

I find it funny that we are able to see all the parts of a human (and alien) body in Gears of War through blasting away their skin with a shotgun but nudity is still not tolerable. We've seen everything else from the human body except what's under-there.

I'm going to say it's mostly because people 17 and older aren't always the one's playing rated M games and as such it mostly falls on parenting issues and them avoiding that one specific talk. After all, Mass Effect was obviously being played by 10 year-olds for the sex simulator.

Nudity is appreciated in most other forms of media but as long as video games still hold the label as a "childs toy" from specific people these barriers will remain present.

Because the target audience of most games are 20 something college douche bags and 12 year old boys. What do they have in common? Awe whenever they see a women shirtless. Unfortunately, this leads to the 12 year old's parents seeing it (because they don't know how the hell to be discrete) and becoming the anti-gaming parents we see today trying to topple the entire industry. Of course they're too stupid to see that it's their fault for buying the game for their child in the first place.
The average age of gamers is 35.

OT: Check out The Void best and most mature use of nudity I've ever seen. This, of course, means that the medium is maturing a bit. As media mature, they become more comfortable with exploring societal taboos.

The USA is anti-sex to the point that we release NC-17 movies [only] due to sexual content. Ultra-gore movies [usually] garner an R.

So all things being equal, nudity belongs in games about as much as violence does. Making a game about Mickey Mouse with very little violence? Very little nudity necessary.

Making a game that's super gory just to be stupid? Better throw in the nudity to appease the masses.

Making a game that tries to bill itself as realistic? Throw in realistic amounts of both nudity and violence.

Nudity in videogames became ok the same second I became interested in girls and real nudity!

I've always been kind of insulted by companies thinking they can persuade me to buy a game with nudity. It just makes it seem like they think I'm an idiot.

Ever since it was possible to imply nudity with pixels it was done. Even if it was the 12 pixel blobs of Custer's Revenge.

And yknow.. that's ok. If it makes sense in context I see no reason not to display nudity in a game. If someone is offended by a naked body (rally offened, nothing else) they should take a look at what they are doing with their lifes.

I am pretty unhappy with the casual use of nudity in video games lately. I watched my little brother download the Demo for Mafia 2 and then within five minutes of playing the demo he found the PlayBoy magazine that they offer in the very first room of the game. Not only that, but after leaving the nude page quickly in confusion he was promised that this was a collectible item that could be found again later in the demo.

I just don't see why nudity is necessary in such an accessible thing such as a demo, and I find this a severe case. Nudity definitely has its place in video games. But nudity has been awkwardly and naively used for too long in these triple-A titles.

When was the last time you saw sexuality and nudity in a video game where it seemed appropriate for the game and it's broad audience? Bayonetta had it's audience pretty figured out. But a demo for Mafia 2? Now you are just being silly.

the first game i ever saw tits in was afro samurai, then almost every m rated game i played from thereafter. now i know theres been partial nudity before, but its only been in the recent year or two that ive actually seen full blown nudity. Now i dont have a problem with it, but its weird that people dont really get pissed at this, but they do get pissed at things that are less severe. what do you think?
Always found this odd, people are perfect fine if you are allowed to smash a guys face into the wall until there is nothing left of his face except for the puddle of blood on the floor. But as soon nudity is involved it goes like "uh nue protect ze children from ze boobies!".
Only in America, but we like to keep sex taboo cause it sells better that way.
God I love to hate your country!

Keep up the good work ;)
Dont you just love the hypocrisy? I know I sure do.

Of course nudity is ok in videogames.
It's ok everywhere and anywhere, that includes in real life and in videogames.

Though, full frontal norkage or more (upto and including wang) isn't something I'm yet familiar with in the original design of mainstream games
There was quite a bit of flak about how Dante´s Inferno would feature upfront nudity (naked women who attack with their vaginas), and devil wang...yes...
Dunno what is left of it tho, I never saw any devil wang in the videos that supposedly showed it<.<
And I WONT buy Dante´s Inferno just for devil wang.

Are we seriously debating about this? Crazy people!

Do an experiment! Walk down your own street and see what's going on. I assure you that nudity in games is the least of your worries.

Remember "Insects in Space" (which was surprisingly ok considering the main character had hypnotic bouncing boobs) and "Custer's Revenge"? *shudders...*

Nudity's been around for almost as long as drug abuse (Pacman).
I looked up Custer's Revenge once. Never doing that again. Although there was (I think) a screenshot of it in the RoJo ENN video.

I'm still waiting for the general public to stop separating video games from other medium. And for some wierd reason here in America, "Sex = BAD" while "violence = okay" (in Japan, it's the opposite).

I never really understood why Canada\America consider nudity to be so taboo. Seeing a vagina and a penis is not going to mentally scar some young child, and seeing a boob should be even less eventful. Nudity in games is only really a problem because society demands that the human body be sexualized, and sex be considered taboo by the generation raising us.

I don't plan on having children, but the last thing I would do is freak out and throw a fit if my kid saw a boob in a video game.

The only time I don't like it is when they dress up women in skimpy/no clothing just because they know that their profits will benefit. Like in a fantasy game where so few women are armored as heavily as the men. You know they just do because they think the male gamers will get hard for it and keep playing, and it's insulting to both genders.

When you do it in good taste, and it's relevant to the situation, nudity is ok. Adding it in there for the lulz is a marketing device.
